Josephine Hausrath

OCT. 12, 1913 -- JULY 20, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Josephine W. Hausrath, 90, of Clyde Morris Boulevard, who was a retired registered nurse having worked in Cleveland and Daytona Beach, died Tuesday at Ormond in the Pines.

Mrs. Hausrath, who graduated from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing in Cleveland, was born in Middlefield, Ohio, and came here in 1971 from South Euclid, Ohio. A Girl Scout leader for several years, she also enjoyed making afghans for children and travel.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan, Bridgewater, Mass. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Dawn Heiser

JULY 21, 1958 -- JULY 20, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Dawn M. Heiser, 45, of Meta Lane, who owned Southern Hills Kennels, died Tuesday at home.

Mrs. Heiser moved the Daytona Beach area in 1978 from her birthplace, Murray, Ky. She later moved to New Smyrna Beach. She attended St. Paul Catholic Church, Daytona Beach. Mrs. Heiser enjoyed dog breeding.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; a stepson, Bill Jr., and a stepdaughter, Brianna Heiser, both of Daytona Beach; her mother, Betty Hornsby, Murray; and three brothers, Robin Hornsby, Holly Hill, and Raye and Rick Hornsby, both of Murray. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Pearlie Mills

AUG. 4, 1950 -- JULY 22, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Pearlie Mae Mills, 53, of South Beach Street, a certified nursing assistant, died Thursday at home.

Mrs. Mills, a member of the Christian Learning Center, came to this area in 1953 from her native St. Cloud. She was a 1967 graduate of the former Campbell Street High School. Mrs. Mills enjoyed cooking and crocheting.

Survivors include two daughters, Samantha Fountain and Amanda Robinson, both of Daytona Beach; three brothers, Louis Reed, Raiford, Willie Reed, Tampa, and James Gibson, Orlando; four sisters, Lenora Gibson, DeLand, Joan Baker and Glorida Gibson, both of Daytona Beach, and Carolyn Harris, Ocala; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Gainous is in charge.

Maxine Moore

SEPT. 20, 1926 -- JULY 20, 2004

DELTONA -- Maxine Iris Moore, 77, of Monica Street, a resident since 1977, died Tuesday at Sixma Seniors Assisted Living Facility.

Mrs. Moore, a homemaker, was born in Owosso, Mich., and moved here from Grayling, Mich.

Survivors include a daughter, Iris Reynolds, Deltona; a brother, Bud Smith, Bay City, Mich.; a sister, Joan Kirn, Grayling; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Rosa Perkins

FEB. 8, 1930 -- JULY 17, 2004

JACKSONVILLE -- Rosa Lee Watts Perkins, 74, of Jacksonville, a former longtime DeLand resident, died Saturday at St. Vincent's Hospital.

A native of Grady County, Ga. Mrs. Perkins attended the former Euclid High School, DeLand. She was a cook for many years in Jacksonville before her retirement and enjoyed singing in the community choir.

Survivors include three brothers, Robert Cox, DeLand, Arnie Cox, New York City, and John Cox, Macon, Ga.; and two sisters, Elnora Wilson and Bertha Anarah, both of DeLand. Unity, DeLand, is in charge.

Erma Preston

DEC. 18, 1914 -- JULY 21, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Erma K. Preston, 89, of Flagler Lane, a resident since 1990, died Wednesday at Bishop's Glen.

Mrs. Preston, a homemaker, was born in Wolverine, Mich., and came here from Jekyll Island, Ga. She was a member of Highlands Presbyterian Church, Daytona Beach. An avid bridge player, she enjoyed traveling, golfing, reading and cooking.

Survivors include a son, Richard, Ormond Beach; three daughters, Karen Kuehlwein, Hampton, Va., Penny Moore, Brunswick, Ga., and Haruko Mitaani, Japan; a brother, William Whittaker, Essexville, Mich.; and five grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Bishop's Glen Memorial Fund, 900 LPGA Blvd., Holly Hill, FL 32117; or to Highlands Presbyterian Church, 950 Derbyshire Road, Daytona Beach, FL 32117. Cardwell & Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.

Lois Rowe

JUNE 17, 1923 -- JULY 19, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Lois Agnes Rowe, 81, of Almond Street, a native of Charleston, S.C., died Monday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Rowe, a Navy veteran of World War II, moved to this area in 1980 from San Jose, Calif. She formerly worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at a law firm.

Survivors include a son, Ronald, Florida; a daughter, Pamela King, DeLand; a brother, George Andrews, Sunnyvale, Calif.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Allen-Summerhill, Orange City, is in charge.

Reba Shepard

APRIL 17, 1917 -- JULY 20, 2004

DELAND -- Reba B. Shepard, 87, of North McDonald Avenue, a retired medical secretary, died Tuesday at Florida Lutheran Retirement Center.

A native of Rosevine, Texas, Mrs. Shepard moved here from Lake Placid in 1990. She was a member of Stetson Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Lake Placid. An avid bridge player, she played the piano by ear.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha Aldrich, DeLand; and two grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Martin Tarkowski

MAY 4, 1963 - JULY 20, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Martin J. Tarkowski, 41, of South Clyde Morris Boulevard, a former manager of Thom McKan shoe store, died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Tarkowski was born in Utica, N.Y., and moved here in 1986 from Oriskany, N.Y. He was a member of Port Orange Church of the Nazarene and Fraternal Order of Police Association. He was an avid Star Trek fan.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Tammy; a son, Austin, a daughter, Alexis Tarkowski, his mother, Carolyn Peterson, and a brother, Paul, all of Port Orange; and a sister, Kelly Flint, New Smyrna Beach. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Gift of Remembrance Headquarters, 1101 N. Steven Tubbs

SEPT. 29, 1950 -- JULY 21, 2004

FLAGLER BEACH -- Steven Albert Tubbs, 53, of Windsong Circle, who worked in management with ITT Community Development Corp. in Palm Coast for 15 years, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital-Flagler, Palm Coast.

Mr. Tubbs was born in Bowling Green, Ky., and moved here in 1983 from Plant City. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Palm Coast.

Survivors include two sons, Sean, Palm Coast, and Ryan, Jacksonville; and two brothers, Michael, Orlando, and Rob, Boulder, Colo. Coastal Cremation, Palm Coast, is in charge.

Ray Wiley

JAN. 10, 1910 -- JULY 20, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Ray H. Wiley, 94, of Southlake Drive, who retired in 1975 from AT&T as a communications supervisor after 45 years of service, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.

Mr. Wiley, a native of Dallastown, Pa., came to this area in 1980 from St. Augustine Shores. He served as a Presbyterian church elder.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Evelyn; two sons, Ray Jr., Jacksonville, and William, Goochland, Va.; two daughters, Donna Wiley, Daytona Beach, and Margaretta Richardson, Valrico; a sister, Marie Moore, New York; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, Orange City, is in charge.

Charles Braun

NOV. 7, 1931 -- JULY 20, 2004

FLAGLER BEACH -- Charles E. Braun, 72, of Audubon Way, who retired in 1987 as an aircraft engineer for Fairfield Industries, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-Flagler, Palm Coast.

Mr. Braun, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in Paterson, N.J., and moved to this area in 1988 from Mount Airy, Md. He was a member of the American Legion, Hawthorne, N.J., and Cabellero's Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Janice; three daughters, Cheryl Cox, Brookville, Md., Cynthia Brewer, Princeton, Ill., and Charlene Chesterman, Frederick, Md.; and a granddaughter. Memorial donations may be made to the American Association of Kidney Patients, 3505 E. Frontage Road, Suite 315, Tampa, FL 33607. Lohman-Palm Coast, Palm Coast, is in charge.

William Crosby

NOV. 23, 1922 -- JULY 16, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- William Crosby, 81, of Upper Cape Road, a manufacturing factory worker, died Friday at home.

Mr. Crosby, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Chester, S.C., and came here from Georgia in 2002. He was a member of Holy Tabernacle Missionary Church and the Mason's Club 50, both of Georgia. A former boxer with the Army, Mr. Crosby enjoyed repairing cars and watching sports.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary; three sons, Gary, Orange City, Billie, Manhattan, and Jerome; two daughters, Linda Gant, DeLand, and Sherree Williams, Elizabeth City, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.
