Marshall Joiner

SEPT. 4, 1928 -- JULY 20, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Marshall Joiner, 75, of Marion Street, who retired from the Volusia County Mosquito Control Department, died Tuesday at Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs.

Mr. Joiner, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in Valdosta, Ga. During his service in the Army, he received two Bronze Stars and the Korean and United Nations service medals. A member of Mount Calvary Assembly Church, he enjoyed fishing, old movies, wrestling and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Laura; six sons, Ronnie and Jerry Joiner and Sam, Greg and Anthony Brown, all of Daytona Beach, and Fred Brown, Deltona; three daughters, Margie Anders, Pat Scott and Cheryl Brown, all of Daytona Beach; two sisters, Ruth and Myra Joiner, both of New Jersey; 27 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Thompson is in charge.

Martha Knothe

AUG. 1, 1915 -- JULY 20, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Martha G. Knothe, 88, a native of New York City, died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center.

Mrs. Knothe, who retired from an electronics company, moved here in 1989 from New York.

Survivors include a son, Ronald, Daytona Beach; a daughter, Nancy Gentile, Port Orange; a sister, Mabel Daley, New York; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Harold Kramer

OCT. 7, 1927 -- JULY 20, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Harold W. Kramer, 76, of Lucky Drive, a retired beverage distributor, died Tuesday at Indigo Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Daytona Beach.

A native of Queens, N.Y., Mr. Kramer moved to this area from New York in 1968. He was a member of the Elks Club and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Helen; a son, Robert, Suwanee, Ga.; a brother, George, Whiting, N.J.; a sister, Josephine Baumann, Ormond Beach; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Florida, 1040 Woodcock Road, Suite 119, Orlando, FL 32803. Lohman-Ormond is in charge.

Irene Lawhorn

DEC. 12, 1935 -- JULY 21, 2004

SEVILLE -- Irene Ruth Lawhorn, 68, of Lake George Road, a licensed practical nurse with Ormond Medical Arts for many years, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near the border of Volusia and Flagler counties.

Mrs. Lawhorn moved here in 1959 from her native Richlands, Va. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and AARP. Mrs. Lawhorn enjoyed fishing and boating.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry Jr., Daytona Beach, Richard, Deltona, and Douglas, Tallahassee; two brothers, Clarence Wilson, Orting, Wash., and Henry Wilson, Barefoot Bay; two sisters, Kathleen Gibbons, Redford, Mich., and Charlotte Brown, Denton, Texas; and eight grandchildren. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Walter Moyers

MAY 10, 1944 - JULY 17, 2004

DELTONA -- Walter James Moyers, 60, of Florida Drive, a journeyman plumber with Florida Quality Plumbing, Orange City, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Moyers, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, was born in Meridianville, Ala. He moved to this area in 2000 from Vero Beach. He was a member of Vero Beach Alliance Church. Mr. Moyers enjoyed air boating, motorcycles, automobile racing and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Laura, Deltona; two sons, Joel Moyers, Georgia, and Johnny Phillips, Arkansas; two daughters, Debbie Oliver, Georgia, and Earlene Moyers, Maryland; a sister, Barbara Bays, Vero Beach; and seven grandchildren. Altman-Long, DeBary, is in charge.

Wycliffe Porter

SEPT. 21, 1931 -- JULY 20, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Wycliffe A. Porter, 72, of Derbyshire Road, a retired miner, died Tuesday at Coquina Center, Ormond Beach.

Born in Jamaica, Mr. Porter moved here in 1995 from Belle Glade. He was a member of Divine Deliverance Ministries. Mr. Porter enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Anthony, Daytona Beach; four brothers, Jonas and Darrel Myrie, both of Jamaica, and Shirley and Glenis Myrie, both of New York; two sisters, Adeline James, Canada, and Althea Myrie-McGibbon, Fort Lauderdale; and two grandchildren. Thompson is in charge.

Owen Purdy

JAN. 3, 1920 -- JULY 11, 2004

WINTER HAVEN -- Owen E. Purdy, 84, of Winter Haven, a former DeLand resident, died July 11 at Brandywyne Health Care Center.

Mr. Purdy was born in Amityville, N.Y., and moved to DeLand in 1968 from Washington, Conn. An Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served as a drill instructor and second lieutenant before being honorably discharged as captain. Mr. Purdy also worked as a carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and was a master woodworker in the carpentry industry. He also volunteered as a firefighter for various fire departments.

Survivors include a son, Thomas, Dunnellon; a daughter, Lisa Buckner, DeLand, six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City, is in charge.

Evelyn Randolph

JUNE 20, 1913 -- JULY 20, 2004

KINNELON, N.J. -- Evelyn Randolph, 91, of Kinnelon, a DeLand resident from 1958 to 2002, died Tuesday at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville, N.J.

Mrs. Randolph, a homemaker, was born in Alabama, and moved to Kinnelon from DeLand. She was a former member of Northside Baptist Church of DeLand and a member and past president of the Lady Elks Club of DeLand.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Caragine, Kinnelon, and Maynelle Crosby, Middleburg; two sisters, Helen Mitchell, DeLand, and Virginia Hamrick, Jacksonville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Glenn Robertson

JULY 28, 1921 -- JULY 16, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Glenn M. Robertson, 82, of Third Street, a salesman, died Friday at Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Robertson, an Army corporal who served in World War II, was born in New Castle, Pa., and moved here from Salt Springs in September. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Leesburg and the Leesburg Masonic Lodge. Mr. Robertson enjoyed carpentry and painting.

Survivors include a son, James, Lakeland; three daughters, Karen Huey, Umatilla, Donna Kelly, West Palm Beach, and Renee Bradford, Salt Springs; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Larry Rogers

JAN. 8, 1956 -- JULY 20, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Larry Rogers, 48, of Bay Street, a native of Eastman, Ga., died Tuesday at his sister's home in Jacksonville.

Mr. Rogers, a customer service assistant, moved to New Smyrna Beach as a young child. He was a member of Apostolic Faith Temple in New Smyrna Beach and attended Florida Community College, Jacksonville. Mr. Rogers enjoyed fishing and sports.

Survivors include a son, Anterrius Jackson, Homestead; a daughter, Alexis Rogers, New Smyrna Beach; and two brothers, Robert and Michael, and a sister, Gwendolyn Lamb, all of Jacksonville. Waters Funeral Home is in charge.

William Schap

JULY 25, 1918 -- JULY 18, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- William J. "Bill" Schap, 85, of Fairview Avenue, a resident since 1992, died Sunday at Horizon Healthcare.

Mr. Schap, a retired salesman, was born in Fargo, N.D., and came to this area from Aberdeen, S.D. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed photography, baseball, music and coin collecting.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alice; a son, Bill Jr., Ormond Beach; two daughters, Diane Welch, Ormond Beach, and Mary Jo Desautels, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Gurneith Johnson, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Pinello is in charge.

Mildred Snow

AUG. 16, 1927 -- JULY 20, 2004

OSTEEN -- Mildred Marguerite Snow, 76, of Lemon Bluff Road, a longtime West Volusia resident, died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Snow, a homemaker, was born in Farmton. A Grey Lady, she volunteered at the Tangelo Park Elementary School. She was a member of Southside Christian Church of Orlando, where she taught Sunday school for 33 years, sang in the choir, served as greeter and wrote letters to first-time visitors. Mrs. Snow enjoyed walking on the beach and collecting sea shells.

Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Froisland, Daytona Beach, Nancy Fischer, Osteen, and Janice Bunn, Sardinia, Ohio; a brother, Bill Kelly, Lakeland; five sisters, Ethel Dykes, New Smyrna Beach, Audrey Markos, Sanford, Maryann Bailey, Altamonte Springs, Jackie Hughes, Lawrenceville, Ga., and Betty Levy, Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Virginia Swanson

NOV. 24, 1915 -- JULY 20, 2004

DELAND -- Virginia Deavers Swanson, 88, of East New York Avenue, a native of Akron, Ohio, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.

Mrs. Swanson, a homemaker, was a dance instructor for the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Orlando. She moved here in 1966 from Columbus, Miss. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and Order of Eastern Star, Columbus. She enjoyed playing cards and watching sporting events.

Survivors include Arlene Lowery, DeLand, who provided for her care. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.
