Harold Hathaway

MARCH 13, 1924 -- AUG. 1, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Harold Earl Hathaway, 80, of Needle Palm Drive, a machinist in tool and die manufacturing at Cape Canaveral before his retirement, died Sunday at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach.

Mr. Hathaway, who drove school bus for Volusia County and Sacred Heart School after his retirement, was born in Linesville, Pa. He moved here in 1956 from Ashtabula, Ohio. He was a member of Edgewater Union Church, the Hathaway Family Association, Springfield, Mass., and the genealogical societies in New Smyrna Beach, Crawford County, Pa., and Ashtabula County, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jean; three sons, Brian, Port Orange, Daniel, Oak Hill, and Allen, Manassas, Va.; a brother, Lyle, Linesville; two sisters, Rena Penfield, Linesville, and Vera Shepard, Meadville, Pa.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129; or Edgewater Union Church, 500 S. Ridgewood Ave., Edgewater, FL 32132. Donald Heaton

DEC. 9, 1939 -- AUG. 1, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Donald C. Heaton, 64, of Kane Drive, who retired from Homac Manufacturing Co., Ormond Beach, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Heaton, a Marine Corps veteran, was born in Yardville, N.J., and moved here in 1975 from Trenton, N.J. He was a member of Port Orange Christian Church and was a 32nd degree Mason. Mr. Heaton enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Lucretia; a son, Donald Jr., and three daughters, Lucretia Lutz, Yvonne Brodie and Michele Solms, all of Port Orange; two brothers, Robert III, Jacksonville, and Edmund, Orlando; two sisters, Carol Brown, South Carolina, and Judith Tuccillo, Virginia; and nine grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Harold Hibbs

NOV. 14, 1926 -- AUG. 1, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Harold Robert Hibbs, 77, of Glenwood Avenue, a retired construction foreman, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Hibbs, who served in the Royal Canadian Merchant Marines during World War II, was born in Verdun, Quebec. He moved here in 1987 from Miami Shores. He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, Ormond Beach, New Smyrna Beach Lodge 149 F&AM, was a Past Master of North Shore Lodge 277, Miami Shores, Mahi Shrine Center, Miami and was a past worthy patron Order of Eastern Star. He also volunteered 10, 000 hours at Bert Fish Medical Center. Mr. Hibbs enjoyed making stained glass windows, ceramics and camping.

Survivors include a son, Robert, Weston; two brothers, Albert, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Roy, Madison County; three sisters, Stella Black, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Greta Bonhomme, Vancouver, and Beverly Bougie, Melocheville, Quebec; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 50 Seville St., Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.

Kenneth Jackson

MAY 6, 1922 -- AUG. 2, 2004

DELAND -- Kenneth L. Jackson, 82, of North Boston Avenue, retired head of the finance department at Stetson University, died at home.

Mr. Jackson, an Army Air Forces veteran, who participated in the Berlin Airlift and retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, was born in Covington, Ohio. He moved to this area in 1968 from Alexandria, Va. He was a 1945 graduate of the Military Academy at West Point. While working at Stetson, he received the Mortar Board Inc. Faculty Award, and was involved in Omicron Delta Kappa and Alpha Kappa Psi fraternities. Mr. Jackson was a member of First United Methodist Church, DeLand Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Civil Air Patrol, and he was a past president of the Volusia Coasters RV Club.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary; three sons, Kenneth Jr., San Jose, Calif., Thomas, Stafford, Va., and Gary, Glastonbury, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Erich Karlsson

OCT. 18, 1920 -- AUG. 1, 2004

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Erich P. Karlsson, 83, of Dorset Circle, a homebuilder, died Sunday at Indigo Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Daytona Beach.

Born in Germany, Mr. Karlsson, a Coast Guard veteran of World War II, came to this area in 1986 from Maryland. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, South Daytona, Daytona Beach Yacht Club and Holiday Point Yacht Club, Maryland. He enjoyed boating.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; a son, Paul, Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Holly Luther, Flagler Beach; three stepdaughters, Andrea Rowe, Marlton, N.J., Deborah Mattera, Germantown, Md., and Marsha Brick, Newport, R.I.; four sisters, Hilda Roderick, Bar Harbor, Maine, Doris Burgess, San Jose, Calif., Andrea Walker, Mountain View, Calif., and Evie Merritt, Philadelphia; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Joseph Kimble

NOV. 27, 1924 -- JULY 31, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Joseph S. Kimble, 79, of Zelda Boulevard, a retired mail carrier, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Kimble, a veteran of the Army and Air Force, was born in Akron, Ohio, and moved here in 1964 from Charlotte, N.C. He enjoyed reading.

Survivors include his wife, Elinor; three sons, Joseph Kimble Jr., Ormond Beach, Scott Kimble, Daytona Beach, and John Lomax, Mims; three daughters, Nancy Kimble, Ormond Beach, Margaret Anderson, St. Augustine, and Lydia Powell, Mims; and a grandchild. Denis Lyons Jr.

AUG. 15, 1943 -- AUG. 1, 2004

DELTONA -- Denis Francis Lyons Jr., 60, of Oldham Avenue, a retired district manager for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., died Sunday at Florida Hospital-South, Orlando.

Mr. Lyons, an Army veteran, was born in New York City and moved to this area in 1988 from Rockledge. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community, Deltona Hills Country Club and Emeril's Gourmet Chef's Club.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Jo Ann; a son, Spirit, Deltona; a daughter, Cathy Zaemisch, Atlanta; three brothers, Kevin, Bobby and Timmy, all of New York; and a sister, Genie Masterson, New York. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Ruth Monnoyer

MARCH 4, 1919 -- AUG. 1, 2004

ORMOND-BY-THE-SEA -- Ruth Cummings Monnoyer, 85, of Tropical Drive, a resident since 1972, died Sunday at home.

Mrs. Monnoyer, a homemaker, was born in Knox Dale, Pa., and moved to this area from Brookville, Pa. She was a member of the Brookville Presbyterian Church, past president of the ladies auxiliary and member of the district auxiliary guard for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1590, Daytona Beach and member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 120, Holly Hill. She was also a six-year volunteer for Florida Health Care.

Survivors include a daughter, Sally Modic, Delmont, Pa.; two sisters, Marguerite Truman, Florida, and Sarah Banninga, Youngstown, Ohio; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Dennis O'Donnell

NOV. 20, 1950 -- AUG. 1, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Dennis O'Donnell, 53, of Soco Trail, an Ormond Beach police officer for 23 years before his retirement, died Sunday at his caregiver's home in Ormond Beach.

A native of Philadelphia, Mr. O'Donnell, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, moved here in 1976 from Indiana. He was a member of Tomoka Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Devon, and a daughter, Megan O'Donnell, both of Ormond Beach; two sisters, Diane McKenzie, Jacksonville, and Debra Stevens, Evansville, Ind.; and his former wife, Vicki O'Donnell, Ormond Beach, who provided for his care. Claire Terrill

MARCH 8, 1926 -- AUG. 1, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Claire Midgley Terrill, 78, of Sea Mist Drive, a native of Worcester, Mass., died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Terrill, a homemaker, was a winter resident of this area from Londonderry, N.H., since 1994. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and volunteered for many organizations.

Survivors include a son, Lee, Colts Neck, N.J.; a daughter, Wendy Larson, Ashburn, Va.; a brother, Malcolm Midgley, Grafton, Mass.; and four grandchildren. Helen Welsh

JULY 19, 1925 -- AUG. 1, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Helen E. Welsh, 79, of Pinetree Drive, who retired as a secretary with General Electric Co., died Sunday at Horizon Healthcare, Daytona Beach.

A native of Esperance, N.Y., Mrs. Welsh moved here in 1988 from Schenectady, N.Y. She was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, Daytona Beach. Mrs. Welsh enjoyed ceramics and needlework.

Survivors include her husband, Carl, and a brother, Robert Cornell, Gloversville, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church, 730 Beville Road, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Jimmy Allee

DEC. 9, 1962 -- AUG. 1, 2004

DELTONA -- Jimmy J. Allee, 41, of Lynn River Drive, a self-employed carpenter, died Sunday at home.

A native of Wisconsin, Mr. Allee enjoyed woodworking, golf and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of eight years, Aidia; two sons, Joshua and Talen, both of Orlando; two stepdaughters, Kailani Diaz, Orlando, and Maya Figuora, Puerto Rico; his father, Douglas, Virginia; two brothers, Donny, Georgia, and David, Virginia; and five grandchildren. Elizabeth Becker

JULY 2, 1929 -- JULY 30, 2004

PONCE INLET -- Elizabeth M. "Betty" Becker, 75, of Atlantic Avenue, a former teacher and librarian, died Friday at a hospital in Sterling, Va.

Mrs. Becker was born in Richmond Hill, N.Y., and moved here in 1997 from Miami. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Port Orange, and president of the Tower Six Condo Association. Mrs. Becker enjoyed playing bridge, reading and singing.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Charles; a daughter, Marianne Clark, Ormond Beach; and a brother, John Fraas, Hobe Sound. Memorial donations may be made to Halifax Urban Ministries, 215 Bay St., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Cardwell & Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.
