Stuart Marcus

OCT. 3, 1957 -- AUG. 8, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Stuart Jay "The Rabbi" Marcus, 46, of Sixth Street, who formerly owned and operated the Bagel Connection in Ormond Beach, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, after being hit in the head with a baseball bat on Saturday.

Born in Miami, Mr. Marcus moved here in 1989 from Rockland County, N.Y. In the 1980s, he owned a store in Nanuet, N.Y., which sold Harley-Davidson motorcycle parts. He was a member of the Cycle Lords of Northern New Jersey. Mr. Marcus enjoyed riding his 1965 Harley-Davidson Panhead even though he had lost a leg in a motorcycle accident in 1978.

Survivors include a son, Dominick Griggers, Daytona Beach; a daughter, Jessica Marcus, Holly Hill; his mother, Elsie Marcus, the Bronx, N.Y.; and a sister, Michelle Marcus, Newburgh, N.Y. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Angela Mayfield

DEC. 8, 1961 -- AUG. 5, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Angela Carol Mayfield, 42, of Long Grove Lane, a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, died Thursday at home.

Mrs. Mayfield, a 1979 graduate of Spruce Creek High School, moved here in 1962 from her native Auburn, Maine. She was a member of the Girl Scouts, Audubon Society and Humane Society. Mrs. Mayfield earned an associate degree from Daytona Beach Community College. She enjoyed cross-stitch, china painting, animals and gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 17 years, Daryl; a son, Ryan, and a daughter, Ashley, both of Port Orange; and her parents, Henry and Virginia Jones, Daytona Beach. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Edward Mazzochi

NOV. 4, 1922 -- AUG. 8, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Edward Mazzochi, 81, of Orange Grove Drive, who worked in the produce department at Publix in the Trails Shopping Center, died Sunday at Avante At Ormond Beach.

A native of New York City, Mr. Mazzochi moved to this area in 1990 from Flushing, N.Y. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. An avid Mets and Giants fan, he enjoyed sports and watching ball games on television.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Florence; a son, Raymond, Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Maureen Ferencz and Diane Pica, both of Ormond Beach; a brother, Donald, Stony Point, N.Y.; a sister, Gloria Disimone, Long Beach, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Newlife Cremation is in charge.

Kristin Mercantini

FEB. 24, 1952 -- AUG. 8, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Kristin Mercantini, 52, of Point Court, a native of Ellenville, N.Y., died Sunday at home.

Ms. Mercantini attended New Life Harvest Church. She enjoyed playing pool, animals and the beach.

Survivors include a daughter, Nicole Mercantini, and her mother, Gladys Hornbeck, both of Port Orange; and a sister, Patricia Miller, New Rochelle, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society, P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Richard Osborn

MAY 9, 1932 -- AUG. 9, 2004

DELEON SPRINGS -- Richard David Osborn, 72, of Valley Drive, a retired auto mechanic, died Monday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

A native of Denver, Mr. Osborn, an Army veteran of the Korean War, moved here in 1958. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks and the American Legion. Mr. Osborn enjoyed building model cars and planes.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Osborn and Terry Wolf, both of DeLand; a sister, Roberta Bailey, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. FourTowns Cremation, Orange City, is in charge.

Sadie Perkins

JAN. 1, 1932 -- AUG. 10, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Sadie Josephine Perkins, 72, of Lotus Lane, a retired assembly welder for Explosive Technology, Fairfield, Calif., died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Born in Daytona Beach, Mrs. Perkins moved back to this area in 1999 from Fairfield. She was a member of Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church and was a graduate of the former Campbell Street High School. Mrs. Perkins enjoyed designing decorative towels.

Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Curtis; a brother, Ira Smith Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a sister, Margaret Mitchell, Daytona Beach. Gainous is in charge.

Paul Rifenburgh

OCT. 8, 1934 -- AUG. 8, 2004

DEBARY -- Paul James Rifenburgh, 69, of West Constance Road, who retired from Maintenance Man Inc., Hinsdale, Mass., died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mr. Rifenburgh was born in Pittsfield, Mass., and moved to this area in 1998 from Windsor, Mass. He enjoyed gardening and walking.

Survivors include his companion, Virginia Dydowicz. FourTowns Cremation, Orange City, is in charge.

Donna Ruitto

AUG. 25, 1939 -- AUG. 6, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Donna Mae Ruitto, 64, of Tumblebrook Drive, a native of New Haven, Conn., died Friday at Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs.

Mrs. Ruitto, a homemaker, came to this area in 1996 from East Hartford, Conn. She enjoyed the beach.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Angelo; a brother, Jimmy Cole, North Branford, Conn.; and three sisters, Gail and Karen Cole, and Marla Mazerolle, all of East Hartford, Conn. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Marion Sokol

JULY 24, 1927 -- AUG. 9, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Marion Patricia Sokol, 77, of Tomoka Farms Road, a native of Syracuse, N.Y., died Monday at home.

Mrs. Sokol, a homemaker, moved here in 1980 from Woodbridge, Conn. She enjoyed animals and playing golf.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Theodore; two sons, Ted Jr., New Smyrna Beach, and Corky, Brenham, Texas; two sisters, Shirley Sonleiter, Orange, Conn., and Beverly Sanford, Cocoa Beach; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.

Glenn Stephens

MARCH 1, 1928 -- AUG. 8, 2004

DELTONA -- Glenn H. Stephens, 76, of Newmark Drive, who retired in 1992 as an assembler for General Motors, Detroit, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Stephens was born in Allen, Ky., and came here in 1992 from Romulus, Mich. He was a member of Praise Chapel in DeLand.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Betty; three sons, Glenn, Deltona, and William and Louis, both of Michigan; three daughters, Janie Frank, Deltona, Anna Bainter, Ormond Beach, and Edith Nunley, Michigan; two brothers, Everett, Ohio, and Billy, Kentucky; five sisters, Emma, Iowa, Helene, North Carolina, and Betty, Shirley and Jennifer, all of Kentucky; and nine grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Mary Toth

FEB. 25, 1911 -- AUG. 7, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Mary Toth, 93, of Flagler Lane, a production supervisor for Westin Biscuit in Clifton, N.J., before her retirement, died Saturday at Bishop's Glen.

Mrs. Toth was born in Middlebury, Vt., and moved here in 2001 from Garfield, N.J. She was a member of Hungarian Reform Church, Passaic, N.J., and its Women's Auxiliary Club.

Survivors include a son, Kalman, Ormond Beach; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Harvey Walcher

JAN. 6, 1919 -- AUG. 10, 2004

DELTONA -- Harvey Fred Walcher, 85, of Bailey Avenue, a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal System, died Tuesday at Majestic Oaks, Orange City.

Mr. Walcher, an Army veteran of World War II, moved here in 1976 from Milwaukee, his birthplace. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 203. He enjoyed bowling and boating.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Dorothy. Memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of Providence, 1696 Providence Blvd., Deltona, FL 32725. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

James Walker

MARCH 3, 1918 -- AUG. 9, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- James S. Walker, 86, of Riverside Drive, who retired in 1965 as owner-general manager of Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Bridgeton, N.J., died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Walker, an Army veteran, was born in Millville, N.J. He moved to this area in 1970 from Wynnewood, Pa. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and former president of the Harbor Oaks Water Association.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Shirley; a son, David, Port Orange; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society, P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035. Lohman-Daytona, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Frances Woodward

MAY 27, 1921 -- AUG. 9, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Frances M. Woodward, 83, of Palm Vista Street, who retired from Decatur Federal Bank, Decatur, Ga., died Monday at home.

Mrs. Woodward, who also served in the Salvation Army for more than 30 years, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and moved here in 2000 from Charlotte, N.C. She was a member of Riverbend Community Church, Ormond Beach, the Salvation Army and United Way. Mrs. Woodward enjoyed music and teaching the Bible.

Survivors include three sons, Edward White, Port Orange, John White, Atlanta, and Frank White, Lawton, Okla.; a daughter, Kay Gish, Charlotte; a sister, Ivy Eskridge, Atlanta; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, 1821 University Ave., Suite No. S256, St. Paul, MN 55104. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.
