JULY 1, 1948 -- AUG. 6, 2004

DELTONA -- Velman Madison, 56, of Norvell Court, a cook for a public school system before her retirement, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.

Born in Climax, Ga., Mrs. Madison was a member of Church of God by Faith, Sanford.

Survivors include three sons, Derrick, Deltona, and Johnnie Jr. and Mario, both of Sanford; two daughters, Chavonnie Madison, Deltona, and Bobbie Madison, Chuluota; her mother and stepfather, Vera and Robert McFadden, both of Sanford; four brothers, Melvin, John, Bobby and Perry Anderson; five sisters, Kim Hemmings, Irene, Antonette and Audrey Anderson and Katherine Micken; and 10 grandchildren. Sunrise Funeral Home, Sanford, is in charge.

Frances Murch

JUNE 14, 1925 -- AUG. 7, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Francis William Murch, 79, of Jeffery Drive, an electrician for J.R. Longo in Morrisplains, N.J., before his retirement died Saturday at Regency House Skilled Nursing Facility, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Murch was born in Unity, Maine, and moved here in 1993 from Pennsylvania. An avid reader, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and travel.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Gloria; a son, Francis Jr., New Jersey; two daughters, Judy Bailey, New Jersey, and Margaret Sims, Florida; three brothers, Arthur, New Jersey, Ralph, Ohio, and Richard, Maine; two sisters, Janet Definis, Florida and Mildred Banker, New York; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. National Cremation, Melbourne, is in charge.

Ruby Murrah

JULY 30, 1914 -- AUG. 8, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Ruby W. Murrah, 90, of East 10th Avenue, a retired secretary with the Central Florida Fair Association, died Sunday at home.

Mrs. Murrah was born in Massena, Iowa, and moved to this area in 1980 from Orlando. She was a member of the Coronado Community United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling, reading and playing cards. Mrs. Murrah served as a volunteer with the Adult Literacy Program, Meals on Wheels, Volusia County Library System and as a Pink Lady at Bert Fish Medical Center.

Survivors include a son, William, Tampa; two daughters, Ann Mellon, Port Orange, and Cathy Ziglar, Orlando; two sisters, Helen Glynn, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Norma Shields, Massena; and five grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 or to the American Lung Association, 412 S. Palmetto Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. John Nitchie

MAY 5, 1931 -- AUG. 8, 2004

PALM COAST -- John F. Nitchie, 73, of Woodlyn Lane, a former branch manager for Yellow Freight Trucking Corp., died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Nitchie, an Army veteran, moved here in 1993 from Hagerstown, Md. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the Italian American Club, the Elks and the Ormond Beach Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Diane Doub; three sons, John, Stewartstown, Pa., Stephen, Dallas, and George, Baltimore; a daughter, Deborah Leroy, Baltimore; a stepson, Edward Ridenour, Hagerstown; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Boyle, Shepherdstown, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

Alice Orr

JAN. 2, 1927 -- AUG. 9, 2004

DELAND -- Alice Marie Orr, 77, of West Armstrong Avenue, a registered nurse, died Monday at Alliance Community Center for Health Care.

Mrs. Orr was born in Shinglehouse, Pa., and came to this area in 1980 from Lake George, N.Y. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, DeLand Women's Club and the Hyde Museum.

Survivors include a son, John III, Tampa; two daughters, Jeannie Orr, DeLand, and Jenevra Strock, Lee, Mass.; a brother, Terry Young, Delaware; two sisters, Lois Estler, Chicago, and Paula Olma, Buffalo, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Martha Rader

OCT. 16, 1917 -- AUG. 8, 2004

DELAND -- Martha L. Rader, 86, of East Howry Avenue, an area resident since 1973, died Sunday at home.

Mrs. Rader, a homemaker, was born in Philadelphia, and moved here from Cherry Hill, N.J. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of DeLand, Deltona Presbyterian Church and Glen Abbey Golf Club and its 9 Holer's Club. She enjoyed reading, golf, music and baking cookies.

Survivors include a son, Robert, Fairfax, Va.; a daughter, Carol Rader, DeLand; a sister, Jane Sibley, Havertown, Pa.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Alexander Rauer

NOV. 2, 1924 -- AUG. 6, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Alexander C. Rauer, 79, of Golf Villa Drive, a service specialist for the gas division of the Public Service Electric & Gas Co., Plainfield, N.J., before his retirement, died Friday at Hospice Care Center.

Mr. Rauer, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, was born in Taylor, Pa., and moved here in 1987 from South Plainfield, N.J. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Port Orange Elks, where he was Elk of the Year in 1998, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3282 and Eagles Aerie 4089. He was a former vice president, shop steward and 50-year member of the Plumbing and Pipefitters Union, Local 855. Mr. Rauer served on the Plainfield Planning Board for 28 years, 20 as chairman.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Vivian; two sons, Richard, Piscataway, N.J., and Michael, Boulder, Colo.; three daughters, Alexandra Calvey, Stafford, Va., Doreen Gillet, Kenilworth, N.J., and Darleen Gillet, Avenel, N.J.; two brothers, Henry, Hagerstown, Md., and Walter, Auburn, Mass.; four sisters, Edna Dieter, Collingswood, N.J., Mary Wheeler, Reno, Nev., Lillian Herrick, Capitan, N.M., and Irene Granum, Williamsburg, Va.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Glenn Stephens

MARCH 1, 1928 -- AUG. 8, 2004

DELTONA -- Glenn H. Stephens, 76, of Newmark Drive, who retired in 1992 as an assembler for General Motors, Detroit, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Erickson was born in Allen, Ky., and came here in 1992 from Romulus, Mich. He was a member of Praise Chapel in DeLand.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Betty; three sons, Glenn, Deltona, and William and Harold, both of Michigan; three daughters, Janie Frank, Deltona, Anna Bainter, Ormond Beach, and Edith Nunley, Michigan; two brothers, Everett, Ohio, and Billy, Kentucky; five sisters, Emma, Iowa, Helene, North Carolina, and Betty, Shirley and Jennifer, all of Kentucky; and nine grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Mildred Streeter

SEPT. 11, 1924 -- AUG. 6, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Mildred Ruby Streeter, 79, of South Palmetto Avenue, a full supervisor with the New York City Transit Authority, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Flagler, Palm Coast.

Mrs. Streeter was born in Lorado, W.Va., and moved here from New York City in 1987. She was a graduate of West Virginia State College. She was a member of Hope Fellowship Church and the New York City Transit Retirees. Mrs. Streeter enjoyed traveling in her motorhome.

Survivors include four daughters, Ellen Jones, Daytona Beach, Hazel Hoffman, Palm Coast, Doris Streeter, New York City, and Edna Risker, San Antonio; a brother, Sylvester Jones, Palm Coast; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Clymer, Bunnell, is in charge.

Ida Waldman

SEPT. 23, 1912 -- AUG. 1, 2004

PALM COAST -- Ida Waldman, 91, of Wellham Lane, a floor lady for Schoolhouse Candy Co., Providence, R.I., before her retirement, died Aug. 1 at Flagler Pines, Bunnell.

Born in Boston, Ms. Waldman moved here in 1993 from Rhode Island. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching television.

Elsie White

FEB. 16, 1917 -- AUG. 4, 2004

HONOLULU -- Elsie White, 87, of Honolulu, a former 20-year Palm Coast resident, died Wednesday at Kapioklani Medical Center, Honolulu.

Mrs. White a native of Pennsylvania, was a bookkeeper in the banking industry. She was a member of St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 8696, both of Palm Coast. Mrs. White enjoyed collecting coins and Hummel figurines.

Survivors include a son, Bill Jr., Honolulu. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church, 303 Palm Coast Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32137. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Richard Beecher

MARCH 27, 1917 -- AUG. 8, 2004

DELTONA -- Richard Gray "Dick" Beecher, 87, of Belltower Avenue, who retired from the Air Force after 21 years of service, died Sunday at Orange City Health and Rehabilitation Center, DeBary.

Mr. Beecher, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, was born in Canaan, Vt., and moved here in 1982 from Fort Lauderdale. He also taught for Broward County Schools in Fort Lauderdale. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Air Force Sergeants Association. Mr. Beecher graduated from Purdue University.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rae; a son, Robert, Manassas, Va.; a daughter, Marilyn Beecher, Orlando; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Florida United Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 6299, Deltona, FL 32728-9988. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Fred Burdette Jr.

OCT. 28, 1949 -- AUG. 6, 2004

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Fred P. Burdette Jr., 54, a truck driver, died Friday at Shands Hospital, Gainesville.

Mr. Burdette moved here in 1984 from his native, Charleston, W.Va. He enjoyed fishing, collecting coins and guns and shooting.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Ella; a son, Fred III, South Daytona; a daughter, Jamie Burdette, Daytona Beach; his mother, Patricia Burdette, Boca Raton; a sister, Donna Morgan, Palm Beach Gardens; and two grandchildren. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Alice Marie Dicus

AUG. 18, 1930 -- AUG. 6, 2004

PALM COAST -- Alice Marie Dicus, 73, of Palmer Lane, a resident since 1996, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Dicus, a homemaker, was born in Riverside, N.J., and moved here from Pemberton, N.J. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, People Who Need People, Palm Coast Connection and New Beginnings Lunch Club. Mrs. Dicus enjoyed bowling, travel and bingo.

Survivors include two sons, Donald, Tabernacle, N.J., and James; two daughters, Alice Marlles, Palm Coast, and Sandra Brandenburg, Newport Beach, Calif.; four brothers, William, Sebring, Robert and Charles, both of Mount Holly, N.J., and Joseph, Riverside; three sisters, Louise Stewart and Kathleen Blehl, both of Riverside, and Dolores Batten, Parkersburg, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.
