Thomas Atkins

JULY 11, 1940 -- AUG. 22, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Thomas C. Atkins, 64, of Hope Drive, a former computer programmer, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Atkins, an Air Force veteran, was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., and moved here in 1981 from Roanoke, Va. He enjoyed impersonating famous singers.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Helga; a son, Jeff, Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Kelley Craver, Mountain Home, Idaho; two sisters, Martha Honeycutt, Lexington, S.C., and Betty Hale, Petersburg, Va.; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society, P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035. Haigh-Black is in charge.

Van Booth

APRIL 25, 1923 -- AUG. 16, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Van L. Booth, 81, of Brightwood Avenue, a retired office machines technician, died Aug. 16 at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mr. Booth, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Flemington, Ky., and moved here in 1960 from Clarksburg, W.Va. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and drag racing.

Survivors include three daughters, Jane King, Orange City, April Bramer, West Virginia, and Rebecca Jalbert, Orlando; a brother, Victor Lake, Washington; three sisters, Nancy, Elizabeth and Icie Mae, all of West Virginia; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Frances Bryan

JAN. 9, 1913 -- AUG. 23, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Frances E. Bryan, 91, of Fiddlestick Circle, a resident since 1977, died Monday at the Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Bryan, a homemaker, moved to this area from her native Tarentum, Pa. She was a member of Daytona Beach Drive-In Church. She enjoyed animals, dancing and music.

Survivors include a daughter, Patti Alker, Daytona Beach. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society, P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035. Lohman-Daytona is in charge.

Signe Chunyk

OCT. 27, 1923 -- AUG. 18, 2004

DELTONA -- Signe V. Chunyk, 80, of Tivoli Drive, a sales associate for Sears before her retirement, died Aug. 18 at home.

A native of Sweden, Mrs. Chunyk moved here in 1988 from Long Island, N.Y. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and cooking.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Philip; a son, John; a daughter, Susan; three brothers and three sisters; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Jack Clements

FEB. 8, 1930 -- AUG. 22, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Jack B. Clements, 74, of Paradise Lane, a resident since 1951, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Clements, who worked in the wholesale auto paint industry, moved to this area from his native Washington, D.C. He was an active member of St. Luke's Anglican Church, Port Orange, where he served as a lay reader. Mr. Clements also was a member of the Museum of Arts and Sciences and enjoyed computers and cruises.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sandra; four sons, Bob and Joe Clements, both of Florida, Larry Clements, Ohio, and Don Jones, Michigan; a daughter, Lynda Mortellito, Florida; a brother, Bob, California; a sister, Elaine Speildel; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Ivan Conde

MARCH 4, 1958 -- AUG. 23, 2004

DELTONA -- Ivan Rafael Conde, 46, of Trollman Avenue, a musician who was a master guitarist, died Monday at home.

Mr. Conde moved here in 1992 from his native New York City. He attended Iglesia Cristiana de Deltona and enjoyed music, fishing, animals and playing softball.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Maria; a son, Ivan Jr., two daughters, Taisha and Jasmine, and his parents, Cruz and Margarita Conde, all of Deltona; two brothers, Vincent, Deltona, and David, New York; two sisters, Madeline Rodriguez and Emily Cruz, both of Deltona; and a granddaughter. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Tesha Adair

JULY 15, 1969 -- FEB. 25, 2005

DELTONA -- Tesha Lynn Adair, 35, of Ivydale Drive, an employee in the Human Resource Department at Seminole Community College, died Friday at the home of her mother, Beverly Mayhew, Deltona, after a long illness.

Mrs. Adair, an Army veteran of the Gulf War, was born in Huntsville, Ala., and moved to this area in 2001 from Mena, Ark. She was a member of Sunrise Community Christian Church. She enjoyed creative arts and crafts, karaoke, fine dining and photography.

Additional survivors include her husband of seven years, Michael; two sons, Cory and Joshua Hart, Tampa; her father, William Preston, El Paso, Texas; a brother, William Preston, Atlanta; and a sister, Tammy Marie, Deltona. Pinello, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Shirley Ashdon

SEPT. 3, 1918 -- FEB. 25, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Shirley V. Ashdon, 86, of Linda Avenue, a resident since 1967, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Ashdon, a homemaker, was born in Charlevoix, Mich., and moved here from Port Arthur, Texas. She served on the rationing board during World War II. A member of St. James Episcopal Church, she also was a lifetime member of Order of Eastern Star and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Mrs. Ashdon enjoyed her cats, sewing, watercolor painting, crossword puzzles, knitting and travel.

Survivors include a son, Anthony, Rockport, Mass.; a daughter, Andrea Ashdon, Ormond Beach; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society, P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge, .

Loretta Baker

JUNE 28, 1912 -- FEB. 24, 2005

DELAND -- Loretta Lamb Baker, 92, of North McDonald Avenue, a retired telephone operator, died Thursday at Florida Lutheran Healthcare Center.

Mrs. McDonald was born in St. Louis. She attended Kepler Road Baptist Church, and was a member of the Pythian Sisters -- DeLand Temple 30, where she was past chief.

No known immediate relatives survive. Memorial donations may be made to the DeLand YMCA Scholar Youth Fund, 761 E. International Speedway Blvd., DeLand, FL 32724. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Dorothy Beirne

MARCH 15, 1917 -- FEB. 25, 2005

OAK HILL -- Dorothy A. Beirne, 87, of Ward Drive, a retired registered nurse for Lankenau Hospital, Wynnewood, Pa., died Friday at home.

Mrs. Beirne was born in Lorberry, Pa., and moved to this area in 2001 from Ardmore, Pa. She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, Narberth, Pa., and The Colmanite's Senior Citizens Group, Ardmore. She received her nursing degree from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia.

Survivors include a son, William Jr., Grainger, Ind.; two daughters, Mary-Alyce Cameron, Oak Hill, and Margaret Heller, Bel Air, Md.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.

Joshua Bridgman

APRIL 22, 1986 -- FEB. 22, 2005

ORANGE CITY -- Joshua Erwin Bridgman, 18, of Lansdowne Avenue, a native of Sanford, died Tuesday at home. An autopsy is pending.

Mr. Bridgman was a lifelong resident of West Volusia County. He was a member of Volusia County Baptist Church. He enjoyed basketball, football and dirt biking.

Survivors include his father, Holbert, Oveido; his mother and stepfather, Anita and David Selph, Orange City; four brothers, Chris Bridgman and Joe and John Selph, all of Orange City, and Joshua Selph, Pensacola; five sisters, Brandy and Casey Bridgman, both of Orange City, Megan Elston, Oviedo, Priscilla Compston, Clermont, and Tabatha Selph, Apopka; his paternal grandmother, Mary Master, Oveido; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Linda Halley, DeLand; and his great-grandmother, Betty Adkins, Oveido. Altman-Long-DeBary, is in charge.

Barbara Cook

OCT. 8, 1943 -- FEB. 24, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Barbara Frances Cook, 61, of Saxon Drive, the owner-operator of Promotional Marketing Services, died Thursday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Cook was born in White Plains, N.Y., and came to this area in 1980 from Mount Kisco, N.Y. She enjoyed reading, sunshine and walks on the beach.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald Brown, Port Orange, and James Brown, Edgewater; her mother, Dorothy Krebs, Deltona; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.

Mildred Coulter

JAN. 25, 1913 -- FEB. 22, 2005

DELAND -- Mildred P. Coulter, 92, of East Howry Avenue, a retired teacher with the Volusia County School System, died Tuesday at Halifax Rehabilitation Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Coulter moved to this area from her native Lake City. She was a member of Bethel AME Church, where she served in several organizations. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Mrs. Coulter was a volunteer with the Evergreen Day School. She enjoyed music and the Fashion Plate.

Survivors include four grandsons, David Hinson Jr., Stephen Hinson, Christopher Hinson and Gregory Hinson, all of whom provided for her care. Mack is in charge.
