Charles Waterman

DEC. 6, 1913 - JAN. 12, 2005

DELAND - Charles F. Waterman, 91, of North High Street, an avid outdoorsman who wrote 17 books on fishing and hunting, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital DeLand.

Mr. Waterman was born in Girard, Kan., and graduated from the former Kansas State Teachers College. He worked as a photographer and reporter for Kansas newspapers until he joined the Navy during World War II, where he served as an officer in charge of the combat photo team. Moving here in 1952 from San Mateo, Calif., Mr. Waterman worked briefly as a journalism and photography instructor at Stetson University. He continued to work as a freelance outdoors writer and contributed to national sports magazines such as "Outdoor Life" and "Field and Stream." He won the Governor's Conservation Award in 1964 and the Award for Excellence in Crafts from the National Outdoors Writers Association in 1977. For many years, Mr. Waterman enjoyed spending time at his hunting and fishing base in Montana.

Survivors include his wife 60 years, Debie. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Irene Boesel
MAY 10, 1918 -- JAN. 19, 2005

DELAND -- Irene M. Boesel, 86, of Woodside Drive, a former factory inspector, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mrs. Boesel moved to this area in 1988 from her birthplace, Toledo, Ohio. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Fort Industry Chapter 391 in Toledo.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, John; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Emily Casey

JUNE 9, 1914 -- JAN. 15, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Emily A. Casey, 90, of East 10th Street, a real estate broker who co-owned Casey's Realty for 25 years, died Saturday at home.

Mrs. Casey was born in Baton Rouge, La., and moved here from Mississippi in 1955. She attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Mrs. Casey enjoyed Bible study and playing cards.

Survivors include a son, Patrick, New Smyrna Beach; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church Human Ministries, 4000 S. Atlantic Ave., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Robert Fleu

SEPT. 11, 1921 -- JAN. 19, 2005

FLAGLER BEACH -- Robert W. Fleu, 83, of Winthrop Lane, who retired as supply manager in 1983 after 32 years with Inter Pace in Parsippany, N.J., died Wednesday at home.

Mr. Fleu, a Coast Guard veteran of World War II, was born in Philadelphia, and moved here in 1985 from Wayne, N.J. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8696 and a former member of Pine Lakes Golf Club, all in Palm Coast. Mr. Fleu enjoyed bowling and golfing.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jean; a son, David, Manhattan, N.Y.; a daughter, Barbara Spino, Colonia, N.J.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 156 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast, FL 32137. Craig-Flagler Palms is in charge.

Helen Genter

OCT. 3, 1907 -- JAN. 15, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Helen E. Genter, 97, Village Drive, a retired textile mill worker, died Saturday at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Genter was born in Southborough, Mass., and came here in 1962 from Whitesboro, N.Y. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo, reading, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include her friends, Donna, Dennis, Mark and Stacy Lampron, all of Ormond Beach, all of whom provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Florida, 1040 Woodcock Road, Suite 119, Orlando, FL 32803. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Brian Kowalcheck

JULY 23, 1980 -- JAN. 14, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Brian Paul Kowalcheck, 24, of Beach Street, the owner of a roofing company, died Friday at home. An autopsy is pending.

Mr. Kowalcheck was born in Flemington, N.J., and moved here in 1998 from Kintnersville, Pa. He enjoyed snow boarding and boating.

Survivors include his father, Jacob, Kintnersville; his mother, Marlene Kowalcheck, Ormond Beach; three brothers, John Bucsek, Robinsville, N.J., Jacob Kowalcheck, Kintnersville, and Joseph Kowalcheck, Cleveland; and a sister, Jessica Deeter, Charlotte, N.C. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. NewLife Cremation is in charge.

Muriel Marple

NOV. 17, 1925 -- JAN. 18, 2005

PALM COAST -- Muriel B. Marple, 79, of Boxwood Lane, a native of Philadelphia, died Tuesday at Sam's Assisted Living Facility.

Mrs. Marple, a homemaker, moved here in 1983 from Huntington Valley, Pa. During World War II, she worked as an expeditor for Frankford Arsenal Army Supplies.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Robert; three sons, Robert IV, Valdosta, Ga., Steven, Bayfield, Colo., and Peter, Durham, N.H.; a daughter, Sharon Marple, Warrington, Pa.; a brother, Alfred Goetze, Whiteville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 555 W. Granada Blvd., Suite A-1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Flora Morrisey

JAN. 28, 1901 -- JAN. 18, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- Flora Mae Morrisey, 103, of Pineland Avenue, a registered nurse, died Tuesday at The Terrace, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Morrisey was born in Indianapolis and came here in 1955 from Latrobe, Pa. She was a member of Daughters of Eastern Star. She enjoyed painting and bowling.

Survivors include two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Emma Morrisey, South Daytona, who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Beverly Nelson

JULY 24, 1929 -- JAN. 18, 2005

DELTONA -- Beverly Jean Nelson, 75, of Shadydale Court, who retired as a secretary for Bradley University, Mission, Texas, died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Nelson, a native of Charles City, Iowa, moved here in 1986 from Mission. She attended Emmaus Lutheran Church, Orange City. She enjoyed painting, ballroom dancing and travel. She also acted as a weekend foster parent for children at the United Methodist Children's Home in Enterprise.

Survivors include her companion of eight years, Wilbert "Bill" Howard; four sons, David, Deltona, Stephen, Peoria, Ill., Richard, Edmond, Okla., and Daniel, Belvidere, Ill.; two sisters, Betty Hollingsworth, Metamora, Ill., and Toni Vogel, Pulaski, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Mary Lou Orawsky

SEPT. 22, 1949 -- JAN. 14, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Mary Lou Orawsky, 55, of Beach Street, a dietary aide, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mrs. Orawsky moved to Palm Coast in 2000 from Stamford, Conn., her birthplace, and relocated to Daytona Beach in 2003.

Survivors include a daughter, Sherri Ruggieri, Daytona Beach; and two grandchildren. Baggett & Summers is in charge.

Anna Perez

MARCH 5, 1933 -- JAN. 17, 2005

DELTONA -- Anna Perez, 71, of Westbrook Terrace, who retired in 1990 as a nutritionist for Fairfield County, Conn., died Monday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mrs. Perez was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and moved to this area in 1991 from Miami. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community and the Fraternity of Family in Connecticut.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Celso; two sons, Oscar and Dennis, and three daughters, Madelaine, Iliana and Marible Orozco, all of Deltona; a sister, Rosalinda Medina, Bridgeport, Conn.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Mary Russell

JULY 31, 1921 -- JAN. 18, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Mary Russell, 83, of Limewood Place, an United Methodist volunteer who traveled to six continents to help with 33 missions including the Heifer Project, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Mrs. Russell moved here from Iowa in 1925. A 1940 graduate of Stetson University, DeLand, she worked as an accountant and estimator at Beynon's Flooring. She was a member of Tomoka United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Association of University Women and the Daytona Beach Chapter of the International Pilot Club.

Survivors include two sons, Harry Hopwood III, Cedar Key, and Charles Beynon, Mouth of Wilson, Va.; two daughters, Marilyn Earhart, Tampa, and Denise Arthur, Albuquerque, N.M.; two stepsons, Hugh and Whit Russell, and a stepdaughter, Charlene Denney, all of Atlanta; two brothers, Richard Pancratz, Franklin, N.C., and Arnold Pancratz, Jackson, Miss.; a sister, Agnes Pickett, Bushnell; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Heifer Project International, 1015 Louisiana St., Little Rock, AR 72202. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Mildred Seger

MAY 23, 1907 -- JAN. 19, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Mildred Seger, 97, of North Causeway, a resident since 1969, died Wednesday at home.

Mrs. Seger moved to this area from her native Schenectady, N.Y. She enjoyed walking.

Survivors include a niece, Lauren Bradshaw, Lakeland, who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Cardwell & Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.

Mona Sharp

NOV. 8, 1930 -- JAN. 19, 2005

DELAND -- Mona F. Sharp, 74, of North McDonald Avenue, a resident since 1988, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mrs. Sharp, a homemaker, was born in Melrose, Mass., and moved to this area from Sanford.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Taylor, Palatka; a brother, Robert Fraser, Glenwood; two sisters, Betty Monteith, Miami, and Janet Taylor, Tallahassee; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.
