Lundie Sutherland

OCT. 20, 1909 -- JAN. 20, 2005

DELAND -- Lundie Gardiner Sutherland, 95, of West Minnesota Avenue, an outside sales representative for Brockton Edison Co., Brockton, Mass., died Thursday at Florida Hospital DeLand.

Born in Carnoustie, Scotland, Mr. Sutherland came to this area in 1985 from Brockton. He was a member, organist and choir director for First United Presbyterian Church in Brockton for 41 years. He also was a lifetime member of Baalis Sanford Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include two sons, David, DeLand, and Paul, Proctor, Vt.; a daughter, Marcia Pearson, Ceresco, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church Special Music Fund, 724 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand, FL 32720. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Orlando Velez

MARCH 19, 1932 -- JAN. 20, 2005

DELTONA -- Orlando Velez, 72, of Urbana Avenue, who retired in 1966 from Crafts and Stuff in Orange City, died Thursday at DeBary Manor.

Mr. Velez moved to this area in 1991 from his native Brooklyn, N.Y. He also retired from Macy's Department Store in New York City.

Survivors include his wife, Betty. Altman-Long is in charge.

Terry Wilcox

MARCH 7, 1949 -- JAN. 18, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- Terry Lee Wilcox, 55, of South Atlantic Avenue, a corrections facility officer with the State of Florida, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Wilcox was born in Olney, Ill., and moved to this area in 1974 from Hickory Hills, Ill.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Jr., North Carolina, and Robert, Port St. John; a brother, Tonny, DeBary, and a sister, Rhonda Wilcox, Hickory Hills. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Florence Lawson
JULY 19, 1920 -- FEB. 4, 2005

PALM COAST -- Florence T. Lawson, 84, of Hernandez Avenue, an interior decorator who specialized in draperies for Sears, died Friday at home.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Sinclairville, N.Y., and came to this area in 1977 from Ashville, N.Y. She was a charter member of Hammock First Baptist Church, where she was the leader of the Women's Missionary Union, in charge of the Girls in Action, played the piano and was a Sunday school teacher. She also was a member of the Hammock Woman's Association. Mrs. Lawson also helped create and was a librarian for the Hammock Library. She attended Jamestown Community College.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Kenneth; three sons, John Baker, Santa Rosa Beach, James Baker, Indian Trail, N.C., and Douglass Baker, Middletown, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Baptists Children's Home, P.O. Box 8190, Lakeland, FL 33802. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Dorothy Palmer-DeMayo

MARCH 5, 1920 -- FEB. 4, 2005

DELTONA -- Dorothy Palmer-DeMayo, 84, of Galloway Avenue, who retired as a high school teacher, died Friday at Friendly Elderly Care.

Born in Salem, Mo., Mr. Palmer-DeMayo came to this area in 1957 from Aurora, Ill. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Seminole County. She enjoyed tennis, reading and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Gregory, Casselberry; a daughter, Dorothy Westcott, Deltona; two sisters, Irene Kizer and Catherine Gahr, both of Salem; and two grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Nunci Piucci

MARCH 25, 1918 -- FEB. 4, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Nunci Joseph "Joe" Piucci, 86, of South Peninsula Drive, who retired after 26 years of service with the New York City Police Department as a detective, died Friday at home.

Mr. Piucci was born in Buchanan, N.Y., and moved here in 1974 from Blauvelt, N.Y. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II where he served as a lieutenant and received three Distinguished Flying Crosses and an Air Medal. Mr. Piucci was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Port Orange, and Knight of Columbus, Rockland County, N.Y.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Evelyn; a son, Richard, Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Diane Swain, New Smyrna Beach, and Linda Saletel, Columbia, Md.; three brothers, Virginio, Richton Park, Ill., Anthony, Montrose, N.Y., and Alfred, Ridley Park, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Cardwell & Maloney, Port Oranger, is in charge.

James Raley

FEB. 15, 1931 -- FEB. 4, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- James D. Raley, 73, of Morning Sun Drive, a minister in Florida and the Bahamas, died Friday at home.

Mr. Raley was born in Bonifay and was ministering in churches since he was 17 years old.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Dolores; five sons, Jim Raley, Ormond Beach, Charles Raley, Jacksonville, Ernest Raley, Marianna, and Curry Raley, Wauchula, and Roger Holmes, Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Donna Shoots, Panama City; and six grandchildren. Lohman-Daytona, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Ann Schulz

JAN. 9, 1916 -- FEB. 4, 2005

PALM COAST -- Ann M. Schulz, 89, of Perrotti Lane, a native of New York City, died Friday at Grand Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Schulz, who retired as a secretary in the banking business, moved here in 1985 from Connecticut. She was a former member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Raymond, Middleburg; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

Clifford States

OCT. 03, 1926 -- FEB. 3, 2005

EUSTIS -- Clifford L. States, 78, of Lakeview Drive, the brother of DeLand residents, Melvin States and Margaret Runk, died Thursday at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home, DeLand.

Born in Huntingdon, Pa., Mr. States, an Army veteran of World War II, came to this area in 1974 from Pennsylvania. He was a long distance truck driver. Mr. States was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Clary, Cross City, and Nancy Reynolds, Jacksonville; two brothers, Leroy, New Jersey, and Perry, Virginia; a sister, Helen Harding, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. FourTowns Cremation, Orange City, is in charge.

Ronald Swift

DEC. 30, 1930 -- FEB. 4, 2005

DEBARY -- Ronald Glenn Swift, 74, of Cunningham Road, a systems analyst for Orange County, Orlando, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Swift was born in Minneapolis and moved to this area in 1991 from Sanford. He was a member of River City Christian Church where he was an elder.

Survivors include a brother, Gary, Deltona; a sister, Marilyn Andrews, Lowell, Mich.; and Michael and Carmen Johnston, DeBary, both of whom provided for his care. Memorial donations may be made to River City Christian Church, co Meditation Gardens, 138 Dirksen Drive, DeBary, FL 32713. Tri-County Cremation, Longwood, is in charge.

Jean Waldron

OCT. 14, 1929 -- FEB. 3, 2005

FLAGLER BEACH -- Jean B. Waldron, 75, of Ocean Palm Villas South, who retired as an executive secretary after 21 years of service with Union County College in New Jersey, died Thursday at home.

Born in Scotch Plains, N.J., Mrs. Waldron came here in 1995 from South Plainfield, N.J. She was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church and the Flagler Women's Club.

Survivors include two sons, Christopher Waldron, Orlando, and David Waldron, Providence, R.I.; two daughters, Janice Schleif, Point Pleasant, N.J., and Carolyn Waldron, Bloomington, Ind.; three sisters, Clara Ferrara and Josephine Beaty, both of Flagler Beach, and Laura Shockey, Dayton, Va.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129; or to the Flagler Women's Club, P.O. Box 562, Flagler Beach, FL 32136. Mary Woodin

MAY 9, 1932 -- JAN. 31, 2005

EDGEWATER -- Mary O. Woodin, 72, of South Ridgewood Avenue, a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Center, Daytona Beach, before her retirement, died Monday at Memorial West Hospital, Pembroke Pines.

Mrs. Woodin was born in Patterson, N.Y., and moved here in 1979 from Dove Plains, N.Y. She graduated from White Plains New York Hospital School of Nursing and formerly worked for Harlem Valley State Hospital, Wingdale, N.Y. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, and attended St. Gerard's Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Dezayas, Cooper City; a stepson, Donald, Clinton Corners, N.Y.; two stepdaugthers, Jean Hunt, Melbourne, and Lois Dye, Westerly, R.I.; a brother, Haines O'Hara, Millbrook, N.Y.; a sister, Lucy Post, Danbury, Conn.; two grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Robert Akins

SEPT. 24, 1932 -- FEB. 12, 2005

DELAND -- Robert Lee Akins, 72, of Darchelle Court, a self-employed architecture in New York, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Akins, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in DeLand, where he was a graduate of Euclid High School. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include three brothers, Robert Whitmore, Robert Akins Jr. and William Akins, three daughters, Lawanda Rice, and Joyce and Diane Akins, and three sisters, Jessie Watkins, and Shirley and Ann Akins, all of DeLand; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mack, DeLand, is in charge.
