Ersel Nimz

FEB. 8, 1927 -- MAY 1, 2005

PALM COAST -- Ersel Nimz, 78, of Belvedera Lane, a former supervisor in the manufacturing industry, died Sunday at home.

Mrs. Nimz was born in Jonesboro, Ark., and moved to this area in 1989 from Illinois. She enjoyed bowling and decorating homes.

Survivors include a son, Robert, and a daughter, Debra DeFries, both of Palm Coast; a sister, Marilyn Gardner, Northbrook, Ill.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

Philip Nolan

MARCH 4, 1914 -- MAY 2, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- Philip Nolan, 91, of Dunlawton Avenue, a former self employed drama teacher and retired Broadway actor, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Nolan, an Army veteran of World War II, who received the Purple Heart, was born in New York City. He moved to this area in 2000 from Miami Beach. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Daytona Beach, the New York Theater, and Academy of Theatrical Arts, New York City.

Survivors include a son, Dan Friedman, Basking Ridge, N.J., and Richard Friedman, Apex, N.C.; and two grandchildren. Tri-County Cremation, Longwood, is in charge.

Cornell Pugh

MARCH 20, 1955 -- APRIL 29, 2005

PIERSON -- Cornell McKennly Pugh, 50, of Silver Road, a native of Alachua County, died Friday in a canal off the St. Johns River as the result of a drowning.

Mr. Pugh was a laborer. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include two sisters, Gwendolyn Cummings and Keturah Pugh, both of Pierson; and two brothers, Lawrence, Daytona Beach, and John Jr., Crescent City. Mack, DeLand, is in charge.

Kathleen Radwanski

JULY 25, 1947 -- APRIL 29, 2005

PALM COAST -- Kathleen Radwanski, 57, of Barley Lane, a sales clerk, died Friday at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Mrs. Radwanski was born in Lake View, N.Y., and moved here from Atlanta in 1998. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Survivors include four sons, Andy, David, Michael and Nicholas, all of Palm Coast; three brothers, Charles, Robert and Tim Lewis, all of Long Island, N.Y.; and four sisters, Joan DiFrancisco, Gail Scifo, and Diane Hayes, all of Palm Coast, and Carol Hoffman, Georgia. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

James Rivers

NOV. 27, 1930 -- APRIL 30, 2005

PALM COAST -- James Willie Rivers, 74, of Prince Ruth Lane, a former maintenance worker for Daytona Beach International Airport, died Saturday at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Mr. Rivers, an Army veteran, moved to Daytona Beach in 1945 from his native Savannah, Ga. He then moved to Palm Coast in 2003. He was a graduate of Campbell High School, Daytona Beach. He enjoyed watching television and car trips.

Survivors include three sons, Rodney, Palm Coast, John, Daytona Beach, and James Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.; seven daughters, Marlene Crapps, Dora Lynn Ellis and Ruth Baker, all of Daytona Beach, and Angel Upton, Holly Hill, Sophia Shepard, Orlando, Beverly Rivers, California, and Bernadette Anderson, Washington; a brother, Jonathan, Port Orange; and a daughter-in-law, Vikiann Rivers, Palm Coast, who provided for his care. Thompson, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Leanora Sigmon

SEPT. 27, 1908 -- MAY 2, 2005

DELAND -- Leanora Beryl Sigmon, 96, of North McDonald Avenue, a resident since 1948, died Monday at Florida Lutheran Retirement Center.

A homemaker, Mrs. Sigmon was born in Philadelphia, and moved here from Alliance, Ohio. She was a member of Lutheran Church of DeLand, Order of Eastern Star, Orlando, and the Auxiliary Air Force Sergeant Association, Shalimar.

Survivors include a brother, Louis Johnson, Palm Coast. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

Codi Smith

OCT. 7, 1988 -- APRIL 29, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Codi Frances Smith, 16, of North Halifax Avenue, a student at Seabreeze High School, died Friday as the result of an automobile accident on Old Haw Creek Road, Bunnell.

Miss Smith was a native of Daytona Beach. She was a member of Word of Faith Family Church. She enjoyed music, stock car racing, hunting, the outdoors, and 4-wheeling.

Survivors include her father and stepmother, James "Sonny" and Janet Smith, Bunnell; her mother and stepfather, Caroline and Allen Fahnestock; three brothers, James Smith II and Travis Lauremore, both of Bunnell, and Allan Fahnestock Jr., Toronto; two sisters, Stacey Smith, Ormond Beach, and Jessica Fahnestock, Daytona Beach; paternal grandmother, Caroline Smith, Ormond Beach; steppaternal grandmother, Jean Fahnestock, Edgewater; and maternal grandmother, Carol Taugher, Holly Hill. Memorial donations may be made to the Word of Faith Family Church, Youth Ministry, 1011 West International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Norman Tanner Jr.

SEPT. 2, 1952 -- APRIL 30, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Norman Lynn Tanner Jr., 52, of Palm Road, a retired house painter, died Saturday at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Tanner moved here from Atlanta, his birthplace, in 1995. He enjoyed animals, music and nature.

Survivors include two sons, Adam and Christopher, both of Atlanta; his father, Norman, Jacksonville; his mother, Dorothy Lauremore, Ormond Beach; a sister, Audrey Tanner, Ormond Beach; and three grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Kevin Unkelbach Jr.

JULY 30, 1950 -- APRIL 30, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Kevin Lee Unkelbach Jr., 54, of Eastwood Lane, a car salesman, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Unkelbach was born in New Britain, Conn., and moved to this area from Las Vegas. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin and Christopher, both of Las Vegas; his mother and stepfather, Beverly and Harry Patrick, Daytona Beach; two brothers, David Beau, Sarasota, and Chris Beau, Barve, Vt.; and two sisters, Linda Unkelbach, West Hartford, Conn., and Janet Heslin, Denville, N.J. Lohman Ormond is in charge.

Lillian Belleau
JAN. 21, 1920 -- APRIL 29, 2005

DELTONA -- Lillian L. Belleau, 85, a resident since 1980, died Friday at her son's home in Tupelo, Miss.

Mrs. Belleau was born in Clanton, Ala., and moved here from Rock Island, Ill. She worked as a hostess and waitress at the Deltona Inn before her retirement. She enjoyed knitting and crochet.

Survivors include four sons, Joseph Belleau, Deltona, Glenn Langston, Tupelo, Alan Langston, Spring, Texas, and Michael Belleau, Bella Vista, Ark.; a daughter, Jeanne Taylor, Deltona; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

William Calfee

JULY 18, 1927 -- APRIL 30, 2005

EDGEWATER -- William Calfee, 77, of Vista Palm Drive a printing division manager at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, before his retirement, died Saturday at Bert Fish Medical Center.

Mr. Calfee, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Spider, Ky., and moved here in 1970 from Middletown, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; a son, Thomas, Wilmette, Ill.; two daughters, Sheila Sorenson, Marion, Iowa, and Stephanie Kay, West Chester, Ohio; two brothers, James, Westminster, Colo., and Gary, Temperance, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.

Robert Gallagher

NOV. 1, 1920 -- APRIL 29, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Robert L. Gallagher, 84, of Tropical Drive, a retired priest, died Friday at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial.

A native of Boston, Mr. Gallagher moved here in 1983 from New York. He also worked as a personnel director at the New York Founding Hospital and worked locally as a Realtor with Adams Cameron. He graduated with a bachelor's of science degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and earned his master's degree in counseling from St. John's University in New York. Mr. Gallagher was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church where he also belonged to the choir, bereavement support group and served as a lector. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Marge; and a sister, Marry Abbound, Daytona Beach. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Betty Matthews

APRIL 15, 1925 -- APRIL 29, 2005

PALM COAST -- Betty M. Matthews, 80, of Renshaw Drive, who moved here in 2003 from Rockville, Md., died Friday at home.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Jenkins, Ky. She enjoyed gardening, housekeeping and shopping.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Fultz, Palm Coast, and Linda Bravo, Rockville, Md.; two brothers, Gordon Bentley, Ohio, and Douglas Bentley, California; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.
