DAYTONA BEACH -- Annie Cain, 83, of Tomoka Road, a Sanderson, Fla. native, died Thursday at The Terrace.

Ms. Cain, a former Bunnell resident, moved here from Lawtey, Fla. She was a member of Mount Mission Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Frank, Daytona Beach, and David, Minneapolis; three daughters, Valarie McDonald, Daytona Beach, Barbara Buchanon, Douglasville, Ga., and Marie Chappelle, Minneapolis; a brother, Paul Berry, Daytona Beach; a sister, Reather Broxton, Philadelphia; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Haile Funeral Home, Starke, is in charge.

Donna Caputo

JULY 11, 1950 -- APRIL 25, 2005

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Donna Jean Caputo, 54, of Wilmington, a former Daytona Beach resident from 1981 to 1999, died April 25 at New Hanover Regional Hospital.

Ms. Caputo, a native of Union City, N.J., moved to Daytona Beach from Teaneck, N.J. She worked in the hospitality industry at hotels and restaurants. Ms. Caputo enjoyed motorcycle riding, flower gardening, the beach and the outdoors.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen Stavrin, Ormond Beach, and Conor Rodgers, Teaneck; her mother, Evelyn Caputo, Ormond Beach; three brothers, Sergio, Ormond Beach, Rocco, New York City, and Steven, Chester, N.Y.; and two granddaughters. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Lonnie Carter

MARCH 10, 1947 -- APRIL 28, 2005

HOLLY HILL -- Lonnie R. Carter, 58, of Derbyshire Road, a former New York City police officer for 17 years, died Thursday at home.

Born in Queens, N.Y., Mr. Carter came to this area in 1985 from New York. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, playing pool and landscaping.

Survivors include his wife, Renate, Flushing, N.Y.; a son, Lonnie, College Point, N.Y.; a daughter, Mar-Anne Carter, White Store, N.Y.; a brother, Robert, Bellerose, N.Y.; and a companion, Susan Brown, Holly Hill; and two grandchildren. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Pauline Fontaine

AUG. 5, 1916 -- APRIL 24, 2005

EDGEWATER -- Pauline B. Fontaine, 88, of Riverview Drive, a retired waitress in the Daytona Beach area, died Sunday at the Regency House, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Fontaine moved to this area in 1975 from Central Falls, R.I., her birthplace. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Deborah Crandall, Atlanta; and a brother, John Kuras, Hudson, Mass. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.

Jean Giles

DEC. 12, 1926 -- APRIL 29, 2005

DELTONA -- Jean F. Giles, 78, of Barbados Street, a resident since 1991, died Friday at her son's home in Sanford.

Mrs. Giles, a homemaker, came to this area from her native Baltimore. She was a member of Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall.

Survivors include three sons, Jerome Wyche, Deltona, Stanley Giles, Sanford, and Tom Boone, Baltimore; a sister, Geraldine Whitfield, Baltimore; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Joseph Gisondi

MARCH 30, 1930 - APRIL 26, 2005

ORANGE CITY -- Joseph G. Gisondi, 75, of Westlake Drive, a self-employed contractor, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial.

Mr. Gisondi, an Army veteran, came to this area in 1996 from his native Jersey City, N.J. He was a member of the Infantry Division Club No. 224, New Jersey.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Arlene; a son, Joseph, Champaign, Ill.; a daughter, Susan Tompko, Naples; two brothers, Nick, Cedar Grove, N.J., and John, Fairfield, Conn.; and three grandchildren. Tri-County Cremation, Longwood, is in charge.

Dorothy Jacobsen

JAN. 15, 1950 -- APRIL 29, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Dorothy "Terry" Jacobsen, 55, of North Beach Street, a beverage server in the food industry, died Friday at home.

Mrs. Jacobsen moved here in 1998 from Queens, N.Y., her birthplace. She was a member of St. Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, New York City and the Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Ormond Beach. Mrs. Jacobsen enjoyed cooking, baking and fishing.

Survivors include her husband of four years, John; two daughters, Stephanie Parrazzi, Ormond Beach, and Kimberly Brown, Long Island, N.Y.; a stepson, Nicholas Jacobsen, Ormond Beach; two stepdaughters, Donna Mett, San Antonio, and Kerry Jacobsen, Buffalo, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

James McElroy

MAY 9, 1923 -- APRIL 28, 2005

DEBARY -- James McElroy, 81, of Floridana Road, a structural engineer in the steel industry, died Thursday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mr. McElroy, an Air Force veteran of World War II, was born in Canada, and moved here in 1995 from Homestead. He was a member of St. Jude's Episcopal Church, Orange City, and the American Legion. He was an avid pet rescuer.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Marion; a son, Shawn, Moyock, N.C.; a daughter, Laureen McElroy, Port St. Lucie; and two grandsons. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Betty Lou McElyea

JULY 3, 1942 - APRIL 27, 2005

DELAND -- Betty Lou McElyea, 62, of Leslie Drive, a seamstress, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital DeLand.

Born in Chicago, Mrs. McElyea moved here in 1979 from St. Petersburg. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and going to the beach.

Survivors include a son, Joseph; three daughters, Kimberly Hugar, DeLand, Christina Bitting, Tampa, and Theresa Thompson, St. Petersburg; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Vera O'Connor

MAY 13, 1932 -- APRIL 28, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Vera Marilyn O'Connor, 72, of Pamela Circle, a native of Lancing, Tenn., died Thursday at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. O'Connor, an Army veteran of the Korean War, moved here from Silver Spring, Md., in 1984. A homemaker, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Robert; four daughters, Barbara Aldinger and Cathleen Whitley, both of Ormond Beach, Danette O'Connor, Daytona Beach, and Sharon Ross, Auburn, Wash.; four brothers, Glenn Byrd, Michigan, and Lee, Bobby and Wendell Byrd, all of Tennessee; a sister, Jean Booth, Atlanta; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Ana Quinones

JAN. 4, 1928 -- APRIL 28, 2005

DELTONA -- Ana Quinones, 77, of Fay Court, a native of Puerto Rico, died Thursday at home.

Mrs. Quinones, a homemaker, moved here in 1986 from the Bronx, N.Y. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Community. Mrs. Quinones enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Roberto, Orlando, and Alfredo, Long Island, N.Y.; a daughter, Mercedes, Deltona; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Leslie Rice

JAN. 28, 1913 -- APRIL 27, 2005

DELAND -- Leslie H. Rice, 92, of a Woodland Circle, who owned and operated Tropical Isle Charter Service, died Wednesday at Ridgecrest Manor.

Mr. Rice was born in Springfield, Vt., and moved here in 1968 from Hollywood, Fla. He also worked as a superintendent for a commercial construction company and helped build the first phase of Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City.

Survivors include a son, Richard Rice, and a daughter, Marjorie Reynolds, both of DeLand; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Tri-County Cremation, Longwood, is in charge.

Sidney Rudolph

APRIL 30, 1906 -- APRIL 27, 2005

DELAND -- Sidney J. Rudolph, 98, of Saragossa Avenue, who owned and operated Seymour's Jewelry in Lorain, Ohio, died Wednesday at home.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., Mr. Rudolph moved to this area in 1974 from Cocoa Beach. He was a member of Blue Lodge and president of the Chamber of Commerce, both in Lorain.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Madelon; three sons, Joseph, DeLand, David, Cypress, and James, Irvine, Calif.; a daughter, Elaine Kurlander, San Francisco; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edith Spencer

SEPT. 2, 1922 -- APRIL 28, 2005

OSTEEN -- Edith Spencer, 87, of Underhill Branch Road, who retired after 25-years as a pharmacy clerk for Weyman-Black Pharmacy, Ormond Beach, died Thursday at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach.

Mrs. Spencer was born in Camden Ohio, and moved to Osteen in 2003 from Ormond Beach.

Survivors include two sons, James Schweizer, Tampa, and Michael Spencer, Newcastle, Wyo.; three daughters, Sue Dill, Osteen, Robin Spencer, Ormond Beach, and Vicki Young, Myrtle, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Frederic Sullivan

JUNE 8, 1952 -- APRIL 26, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Frederic J. Sullivan, 52, of South Atlantic Avenue, a native of Kansas City, Mo., died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mr. Sullivan moved to this area from California in 2002.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Lawrence and Jean Sullivan, Glasgow, Ky.; a brother, Sean, Seattle, and James, Sullivan, Ann Arbor, Mich.; a sister, Maureen Brennan, Ann Arbor. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Elaine Wilson

OCT. 11, 1917 -- APRIL 27, 2005

DELTONA -- Elaine A. Wilson, 87, of Watersedge Drive, a former licensed practical nurse, died Wednesday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Wilson moved here in 1989 from New York City, her birthplace. She was a member of Children of Zion Church and a former longtime member of First Community Baptist Church of New York City. She also was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Order of Eastern Star and the National Council of Negro Women. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed travel, reading and church activities.

Survivors include a son, Richard Rhodes, Deltona; two daughters, Judy Thomas, Wrightsville, Pa., and Mary Sass, Fremont, Calif.; a brother, Philip Harris Jr., and two sisters, Marie Robinson and Marie Humes, all of New York City; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
