RUSSELL, John Wesley, 76, of Tampa, died Monday, January 29, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Sutton Russell; daughters, Nancy Miller and Sally Williams, of Dayton, Ohio; stepson, John (Jack) Sutton and wife Cindi; stepdaughter, Susie Sutton Folsom and husband Wayne; and three grandchildren, John B. and Joshua Sutton and Laura Mirabella, and a sister, Melva Bystrek, of Dayton, Ohio. Jo hn retired from Ohio Bell and since retirement has worked as a volunteer at Tampa General Hospital, accumulating more than 16,000 volunteer hours and was awarded the James M. `Red` McEwan Memorial Award in 1984 and the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award in 1992. John served our country in both World War II and the Korean War and was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal-2 Stars, European-African Mid dle Eastern Campaign Medal-3 Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal-1 Star, Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal-2 Stars, World War II Victory Medal and the Korean War Medal-1 Star. Private graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of choice.

RYCZEK, Casimir J., of Lutz, passed away at his home on January 29, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; one daughter, Lynn Wilkinson and son-in-law Steve of Land O' Lakes and two grandchildren, Sean and Kevin Wilkinson. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Lutz in 1999 from Port Richey where he lived since 1976. He was a Major in the Army Air Corps in World War II, and a retired L etter Carrier. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the Loyless Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 2348 Collier Parkway. Interment will follow at the Grace Memorial Gardens, Hudson, Fla.

SMITH, Dennis George, Sr., `Pop-Pop`, beloved husband, father, grandfather and Irishman, passed away peacefully January 29, 2001 at home. His loving memory will be kept alive by his wife, Pat Smith; a son, Dennis G. Smith Jr. and wife Patty Wong and granddaughter, Skylar; his daughter, Suzanne Schneider, her husband, Eric Schneider; grandson, Jakob; brother, Patrick Smith and family of Pittsbur gh. Dennis was a drill sergeant in the Army at Fort Polk, La. For 25 years, he was vice president of rental and service at Compressed Air Systems. He served as President of Brandon Area Youth Soccer League. During his term his contributions included development of the Hobbs Soccer Complex at J.C. Handly Park and establishment of the `Tempest,` Brandon's first all girls soccer team. The family will receive friends 3-8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2001 at their home.

SPADAFORD, Joseph F., 82, of Sun City Center died Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at South Bay Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Lola; two sons, Joseph II of Yardley, Pa. and Kenneth of Rockville Centre, N.Y.; a brother, Maurice of Floral Park, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Born in New York City, N.Y. he moved to Sun City Center in 1980 from Seaford, L.I, New York. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. He was an avid golfer at Cypress Greens. Mass of the Resurrection 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2001 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 701 Valley Forge Blvd., Sun City Center. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she moved to this area in 1971 from Flemington, N.J. She was a registered nurse, and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Dunedin. Survived by husband of 67 years, John J. Stahley, Dunedin, Fla.; four daughters, Rosemary Bender, Tampa, Fla., Rita Jean Entwisle, Tampa, Fla., Kathleen Mervine, Redington Shores, Fla., Ruthann Castagan, Tarpon Sprngs, Fla.; one brother, Dr. William Frohbose, Rocky Mount, N.C., 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren.

STERNBERG, Robert A., 64, of Tampa, passed away at UCH on January 28, 2001, after a 12 year battle against leukemia. He is survived by his best friend of 50 years and wife of 40 years, Claudette Sternberg of Tampa; his two cherished sons, Scott Sternberg of Tucson and Joe Sternberg of Steamboat Springs; a beloved daughter-in-law, Louise of Tucson; and the blessings of his later life, his grands ons, William and Patrick of Tucson. He has one surviving sister, Joann Austin of San Antonio. A native of Louisville, Ky., he came to Tampa in 1988 to join Briggs Industries, Inc. as operations manager and part owner. During the 30 years of his professional career with Ford Motor Co., Xerox, Control Data and Monarch Mirror he held various executive managerial positions and received numerous awards for quality of work life, manufacturing leadership and operational excellence. Robert was a member of the USF Catholic Center, St. Mary's Catholic Church, TPCC and ESCOT. A memorial mass will be held at the Catholic Center at USF, 13005 N. 50th St. on Friday, February 2, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the spring in Louisville, Ky. at Calvary cemetery. TUCKER, Marvin L., 73, of Tampa passed away Monday, January 29, 2001 at Brandon Regional Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Carmen; step-son, Bill Spivey; step-daughter, Linda S. Clark; mother, Annie Cribbs; two sisters, Nancy Deal, Carolyn Rodriquez, six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was a native of Coolidge, Ga, retired General Mgr. for Aetna Steel and a Veteran of World War II, U.S. Army. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 10-11:00 a.m. at the Glass Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. VALDES, Pauline Leone, age 82, lifelong resident of Tampa and the `ROSE` behind Valdes Jewelry Company for almost fifty years, passed away on January 15, 2001. As per her request, private interment was held following cremation. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Armando P. Valdes, Jr.; and her devoted Cha Cha. Fondly remem- bered as `Nana`, Pauline is survived by her loving son, Dr. Armando S. Valdes and devoted wife, Elisa (her caregiver of many years); sister, Mary L. Cleotilis, and husband, Gregory; treasured grandchildren, Michael Valdes and wife, Candice, Stephen Valdes and wife, Julie; seven great-grand- children, Alexandra, Amanda, Victoria, Olivia, Maggie, Jacquelyn and Audrey Valdes. These `Little Ladies` were forever touching, talking, caressing and kissing her , never once expecting any emotion or affection in return due to her condition caused by the most horrible of diseases, Alzheimer's. They taught us, their elders, what LOVE truly is. Other survivors are nieces and nephews, Yvonne Torrens, Marilyn Langford, Gregory, Samuel and Mark Cleotilis. A wonderful mother, grand and great grandmother, kind and loving throughout her healthy life, who had a smi le for everyone, a friend to all and who gave of herself unending was and will be forever loved and deeply missed. Her family was her life and we will always have soothing thoughts to draw upon while our hearts are sore. Her spirit will continue to exist in each of us. She will always be remembered for her unselfish ways and gentle manner. A true profile in courage who never complained, she handle d herself with great pride, dignity and calmness in death, as she did so in life. A perfectionist while in good health, she'd spend her working days cleaning her jewelry store so it sparkled and her weekend doing the same in her home. She was a true workaholic taking great pride in all she did. I've missed our conversations and laughter, and have suffered with you mother, through your plight. Rest now, enjoy eternity, embrace it with the same vibrance you did life, and be assured I'll love and remember you Mom, Always. Survived by her step-daughter, Lorene Sprouse, Kan.; cousins, Norris Woodward, Wichita, Kan., Betty Jane Woodward, Wichita, Kan., Walla Dee Waldemier, Kan., Sharon Taylor, Kan., Dolly Byram, Rosalie Baker, Wyo.; devoted fr iends Billie Caverly, Pearl Highsmith and Barbara Kuchau, of Tampa. Mrs. Webb was born June 20, 1916 in Tulsa, Okla. to Edward Clinton Cory and Rhoda Keister Corey. She and her husband Ralph Webb, retired Air Force, who preceded her in death, retired to Florida 18 years ago. Helen was a dispatcher for Topeka, Kansas Police Department and was a member of America Legion Auxiliary #334, Women of the Moose, Chapter 1371, Ladies Auxiliary VFW #1650 and Society of military Widows, Chapter, SMW35. She was a fun-loving lady who enjoyed dressing up, eating out, singing and small stakes gambling. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Wheeler of Lake City and James Wheeler of Pensacola; seven sisters, Eunice Cravey of Olustee and Thelma Chauncey of Kathleen, Fla., Dorothy Johnson , Betty Ann Stump, June Walker, Charlotte Collins and Alice Anderson all of Lake City; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as long time friend and caregiver Maurice Humphries of Zephyrhills. A native of Lake City, Fla. she had been a long time resident of the Zephyrhills/Dade City area. Katherine was a homemaker, sectionizer in citrus production and a member of Calvary Assembly o f God in Dade City. Funeral services were held in the Richey Chapel of Coleman & Ferguson F.H. on Tuesday with Pastor Wes White officiating. Interment will take place in her home town of Lake City on Wednesday (today) at 2:00 p.m. in the Oak Grove Cemetery with Pastor Tank Ogburn officiating.

Doris, Land O' Lakes; Linda Ryback, Addison, Ill.; one sister, Florence Peke Huff, Land O' Lakes; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
