ACKERMAN, Elwood `Al`, 77 of Bradenton, passed away July 24, 2001. Survivors include two sons, Charles Ackerman and wife Barbara of Plant City, Steve Tucker and wife Susan of Braden- ton; two daughters, Peggy Whitfield of Tampa, and Nadine Saunders and husband Greg of Wesley Chapel, their mother, Mary Lee Ackerman; sister, Gloria Soukup; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of World War II, served in the Ardennes in Europe, and worked for Frank Dery Florist. He was a stock car driver in the 50's and an avid street rodder. No services. AMEY, Dr. Brent David, 55, died in Tampa at St. Joseph's Hospital Friday, July 27, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Twila Richards Amey; daughter Ashley, 18; son Grant, 16; mother, Bernadette Amey; sisters, Karlyn Curran and Susan Lavin (husband Mike); mother-in-law Marie Richards; brother and sister-in-law Rev. Gene and Cindy Richards; and nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of the Universi ty of Kentucky Medical School with residency at USF College of Medicine. He was diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians and the National Board of Medical Examiners. Following a 22 year career as an emergency department physician at St. Josephs Hospital, Dr. Amey served as the Director of the Emergency Depar tment, St. Josephs, Vice President of Medical Staff Affairs, St. Anthony's Hospital (1993-97) and at his death was the Vice President of Medical Staff Affairs at St. Joseph's Baptist Health Care. Dr. Amey was one of the leaders in the development of the Paramedic Program for the Tampa Fire Rescue in its early years. He was an advisor to the Hillsborough County EMS. Visitation will be held at Bloun t Curry & Roel funeral home, 3207 Bearss Ave. Monday from 6-9:00 p.m. with services to be held at Idlewild Baptist Church, 1515 W. BLISS, Charles August, 76 of Lutz passed away Saturday, July 28, 2001. He was predeceased by son, Leroy Bradley and granddaughter Lindsay. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Inez; sons, Jim and wife Mary Beth, and Alan and wife Gloria; grandchildren, Shannon, Alex, Curtis, Clinton and Caitlyn all of Lutz; sister, Marie Ward of Tampa and brother, Herbert of Washington . He has been a residen t of Lutz since 1958. He owned and operated Charles Bliss Produce in West Central Florida for 55 years. He was active in the Lutz Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, retiring as President. He helped to found the Babe Ruth Baseball League in the '60s and was active for many years. He was on the Board of Directors of the original Lutz State Bank, Optimist Club of Lutz and he was a 32nd degree Ma son Fellowship Lodge 265. `Our Papa was a hard working, family loving, honest man. Mrs. Ellis, the widow of the late Charles John Ellis; is survived by three children, Louise Ellis Burnett and Benjamin Robert Ellis both of Tampa, and Marianne Ellis Bradley and her husband Laurens Knight Bradley of Palm Harbor, Fla. Born in Americus, Ga., she was raised in Augusta, Ga. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1936, where she was president of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. The family moved to Tampa in 1947. Descended from the original Dutch Settlers of New York, she was an avid genealogist and enjoyed gardening. KUHN, Sr. Joseph W., 80 of Plant City passed away July 27, 2001. He was predeceased in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Ellouise Simmons Kuhn. He is survived by his son, Joseph (Jody) Jr. and wife, Diane of Tampa; sister, Margaret DeBoe, and brother, Andrew (Andy) Kuhn, both of Plant City. Mr. Kuhn moved to Plant City in 1931 at age 10 from Sharpsville, Pa. and graduated from Plant City Hi gh School in 1940. He Served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as Staff Sergeant and Crew Chief of an A-20 Bomber `Sweet Ellouise`, named after his wife. He was a member of the 387th Squadron of the 312th Bomb Group serving in the South Pacific Theater. Mr. Kuhn was active in American Legion Post No. 26 since 1947, holding offices including Post Commander and 7th District Commander in 1960. He was a member of American Legion's 40/8 Voiture Locale No. 199. Mr. Kuhn served on the board of the former American Legion Children's Hospital, now All Children's Hospital. Mr. Kuhn took great personal pleasure in performing proper disposal of soiled and damaged American flags for the community for 40 years. He served cheerfully as bingo caller for the past 25 years at Post No. 26 weekly bingo games and was one of the original member of the former American Legion Auxiliary Highway Patrol. He made over 23 gallons of blood donations to blood banks and organizations, especially the VA Hospital in Tampa. Mr. Kuhn was in the automotive and furniture upholstery business in Plant City for over 50 years. He also taught evening furniture upholstery classes through the Hillsborough County S chool's Adult Education Program for 25 years. Mr. Kuhn oversaw and maintained the Kuhn Estate Family orange grove and farm of grazing cattle since the passing of his father in 1965. Mr. Kuhn was active with the Florida Strawberry Festival since 1960. He was an Emeritus Board Member of the Florida Strawberry Festival Association after serving as both an Associate Director and Director of the Board for 25 years. He openly enjoyed meeting and greeting Festival patrons as part of the gate security team. Mr. Kuhn possessed a unique ability to make people smile, as anyone who met him would agree. He had the greatest of love for his family, friends, this community and our country. His life's work clearly demonstrated this commitment and he will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held Sunday Ju ly 29, 2001 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Monday July 30 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Haught Funeral Home 708 W. Dr. MLK Blvd. in Plant City. McBRIDE, Beryle Q., 62, suddenly departed into the arms of the Lord on 26 July, 2001 due to heart disease. A native Tulsan and a National Guard veteran, Beryle adopted Tampa as his home in 1967.
