Died: Wednesday, August 20, 2003
Age: 63

She was born April 17, 1940, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Ponte Vedra about five years ago.

She is survived by son James (Carol) O’Grady of St. Augustine; daughter Diane (Patrick) McDermott of Levittown, N.Y., and grandchildren Colleen, Kaitlin and Thomas McDermott. Visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, with a service at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northeast Florida.

Michael C. Rinelli
Died: Tuesday, August 19, 2003
Age: 47

Born in Philadelphia, he moved to Jacksonville in 1997.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sally Rinelli; sons Anthony Rinelli of Jacksonville and Jason Rinelli of Telford, Pa.; and his mother and father, Catherine and James Dove of Langhorne, Pa.

A memorial mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach.

Michael J. Rieman
Died: Sunday, August 17, 2003
Age: 56

He was retired from the Navy, having served during the Vietname War. He was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church, Fleet Reserve and the Jaguars Booster Club.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Melanie Rieman; his father, Martin Rieman; son Martin (Shannon) Rieman; daughters Kelly Rieman and Shelly (Shannon) Scott; sisters Marsha Gunner and Marlene (John) Kelly; grandchildren Kayla and Michael Scott and Erek Rieman, and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at St. Johns Catholic Church, 2400 Mayport Road, Atlantic Beach, with Father Joe Meehan officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd.

Marietta 'Penny' Carr
Died: Friday, August 08, 2003
Age: 78

Born July 1, 1925, in Concord, N.H., Ms. Carr graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in zoology. After a career in the field of medical biologicals, especially the management and regulation of blood products, she retired to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1990.

She is survived by a nephew, Geoffrey Hartshorn Carr; nieces Linda Carr Farrell, and Jennifer Carr Isherwood-Iobst, and cousins.

The family requests that instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the University of New Hampshire Foundation for the Marietta “Penny” and Jane Carr Scholarship Fund, Elliott Alumni Center, University of New Hampshire, 9 Edgewood Road, Durham, N.H., 03824.

Services will be held in New Hampshire at a later date. Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach.

Anna E. Whitlock
Died: Wednesday, November 05, 2003
Age: 92

She was born in Lebanon, Pa.

She is survived by her daughter, Beth (Richard) Ard of Ponte Vedra Beach; grandchildren Mary Therese Poma, Mike Ard, Rick Ard and Paul Ard, and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 7, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with Father William Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Margaret B. Tanner
Died: Tuesday, February 17, 2004

She was born in Louisville, Ky., and moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1994 from Crescent City, Fla., where she had resided since 1979.

She retired from the Jefferson County School District in Louisville and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge. She was an active member of Palms Presbyterian Church and the Long Time Newcomers Club. Her husband of 50 years, Robert W. Tanner, predeceased her in 1990.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Golden of Ponte Vedra Beach; sister Martha Holzknecht of Louisville; granddaughters Alison Bitner of Miami and Leslie Golden of Ponte Vedra Beach; three nephews, and one niece.

A celebration of life service was held Thursday in the chapel of Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach, with the Rev. Thomas Walker and the Rev. Carol DiGiusto officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, in the Resthaven Cemetery of Louisville, Ky.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palms Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville Beach.

Patricia Magee
Died: Tuesday, February 17, 2004

Born Dec. 31, 1931, in New Castle, Ind., she attended Indiana University and worked as a bookkeeper and legal secretary. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Beach United Methodist Church, Sawgrass Players Club Women’s Association, where she was president in 1998-99, and Long Time Newcomers of the Beaches. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Alonzo Magee.

She is survived by sons David Jr. and Terry Magee, and grandchildren Megan, Joshua, Kirsten, and Ryan.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a .m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Todd Funeral Home, 34 W. Main St., Knightstown, Ind., 46148, with visitation 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 20.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Local arrangements by Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach.

Rudolph M. Lepore
Died: Tuesday, February 17, 2004
Age: 79

Born April 17, 1924 in New Brittain, Conn., he was a Marine Corps veteran, having served in the South Pacific, China and the Philippines.

He retired as sales manager in 1986 from Lear Sigler Inc. after 32 years, residing in La Mesa, Calif. He lived in Jacksonville Beach from 1987 to 1993. He was commander of the American Legion post in Terryville, Conn., and was a Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Layton Lepore, and his brother Anthony.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma R. Lepore; daughters Karen (Charles) Dowling and Nancy (Richard) Hughes, both of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; son Robert L. (Kathrine) Lepore of San Diego; his twin sister Alberta (Edward) Gwazda of Plainville, Conn.; stepchildren Gale (William) Olsen of York, Pa., and Richard (Linda) Neumann of Lemon Grove, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

A private memorial service will be held later in Lake Tahoe. Contributions may be made to the Cancer Society or to the Red Cross blood bank. Cremation Society of Pennsylvania was in charge.

Carol Hall Rowe
Died: Sunday, February 15, 2004
Age: 59

Born Aug. 15, 1944, in Neon, Ky., she was an electronic technician for AT&T, retiring after 35 years of service.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce M. Rowe; daughters Melissa Carol Rowe of Ponte Vedra Beach, Sharon Leann (Chris) Dinges of Lake Worth, Fla., Lynne (Brenda) Joyce of Stuart, Fla., Debi Lynn (Chris) McAvoy and Dawn Renee (Chris) Maresco, all of Kissimmee, Fla.; sisters Patricia Ann LeMay of Winchester, Ky., Donna Sue Hall of Ponte Vedra Beach and Opal Austin of Winchester, and grandchildren Dallas, Austin and Christian Maresco, Jason Warren and Matthew McAvoy.

A funeral service was held Thursday at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery, with Chaplain Roger Dickerson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Theodore Sutton
Died: Tuesday, April 20, 2004
Age: 83

He was born October 16, 2004 in Baker, Oregon to the late Herbert and SaBina Sutton.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, Africa and the Middle East as a paratrooper and radar operator. During his military career he received many honors.

Family members include his sister, Dorothy Postlewait; brother, David Sutton; several nieces and nephews; many friends and the "girls". He was predeceased by his wife, Bonnie Lou; brother Daniel Sutton sisters, Dessima, Jeanne, Velva, Kathleen and June.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home handled arrangements.
