ALTMAN, Lavon, 70, of Dade City, died Thursday, November 15, 2001 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center in Dade City. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo; five sons, DuWayne of Dade City, Larry of Ridge Manor, Michael of Belleview, Greg of Dade City and Gary of Falls Church, Va.; two daughters, Joan Riley of San Antonio and Norma Jean Miller of Belleview; two sisters, Jean Simmons of Quincy, F la. and Nettie Wilson of South Haven, Miss.; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Goddard Altman, his brother Melvin Altman and his sister, Lois Stephens. He moved to Dade City as a child in 1943 from his birthplace of Canal Point, Fla. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in Japan as a Hospital Corpsman and was retired from the U SDA as an agricultural inspector. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dade City and the Dade City VFW. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2001. Burial will follow at Dade City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday Evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 7066 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills, FL 33540.

HOUCK, Gladys Strader, entered into the Lord's promised rest Monday, November 12, 2001, at The Samarkand of Santa Barbara, Calif., where she had lived happily for the past seven and a half years. She was born the second of six children in Harrodsburg, Ky., where she spent her early years. Around 1930, she began spending summers at Chautauqua, N.Y., where she met Harold A. Houck. They were marri ed in 1935 and continued to spend summers there where Mr. Houck was a director of the Boys' and Girls' Club for 25 years. The Houcks settled in Salamanca, N.Y., where he taught physical education and coached for 40 years. A daughter, Karen, was born to them there. During those years, Mrs. Houck was very active in the First Methodist Church in volunteer work. She was employed at the Savings and Loa n Association for over 20 years, serving as Secretary. She loved sewing and arts and crafts and often took classes to learn new skills. She was very generous in sewing for others, especially her daughter and sisters. In 1975, the Houcks retired to Zephyrhills, Fla., where they enjoyed golfing, traveling together and making new friends. Garden Club and singing in a local chorus were great delights for her. Where they lived, she was always active in the Methodist Church, especially singing in the choir, one of her great joys. Her husband passed away in 1983. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Neu of Santa Barbara; three sisters, Doris Little and Wanda Hargus of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Martha Lou Fielder of Amarillo, Texas ; a brother, Claude of Ravenna, Ohio; and e leven nieces and nephews. Mrs. Houck was much loved by her family and many friends and will be greatly missed. a memorial service will be held at the Mountain Room of The Samarakand on Saturday, November 17, at 10:00 a.m. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Good Neighbor Fund of The Samarkand, or to the Parkinson Association of Santa Barbara.

Bartolomeo of Huntsville, Alabama; daughter, Jemma Crimmins of Arcadia, Fla; brother, Daniel Schmidt of Westlake Village, Calif; sister, Florence Noll of Bethel Park, Pa; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his two daughters, Jessica and Kolby Harrell, mother, Jeanie Van Fleet and her husband Peter, his father Rudy Harrell, Sr and his stepmother Gail. Other immediate family members include brothers Darren, Dean and Daniel Brock, and sisters Michelle McDonald and Sheri Ramirez. Rudy was employe d by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department for 17 years, retiring in 1999, serving in the Jail Division, Law Enforcement, undercover narcotics, and was a crime prevention specialist. MAGGIO, Frank `Joe`, 72 of Tampa left us on November 16, 2001 after fighting a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born in Tampa and has lived here most of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gaetano `Tom` and Asunta `Susie` Maggio. He is survived by his daughters, Roberta Maggio-Sanford, Donna Maggio and Pamela Ferrara; his son Tom Maggio; two brothers, Sam and Vincent; three sisters, Dorothy, Nina and Marie; eight grandchildren, Shaun, Michael, Matthew, Heather, Marisa, Philip, Sophia and Bianca and numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a retired merchant seaman and has been affiliated with the funeral home business most of his life. He was a devoted father and grandfather and a wonderful son and brother. A friend to anyone who crossed his path he will forever be known for his good looks, impeccable sytle and tremendous sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all. Surviving him are his three sons, Kenneth, Gerald and Robert Wayne, all of Plant City; his five daughters, Jeanette Gosselin of Plant City, Patsy Sardin of Winter Haven, Donna Sullivan of Plant City, Teresa Puig of Brandon and Marie Sellers of Plant City, Fla. Mr. Sellers h as twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was a christian with membership at Whitehurst Road Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was born in Midland City, Alabama and moved to Plant City in 1944. He was a farmer for many years and later worked in security and maintenance for Vulcan Materials of Tampa, Fla. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 19, 2001 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and services will be at Shiloh Baptist Church in Plant City at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2001.

Millem, Donald, 79, of Dade City, died November 18, 2001 in Brooksville. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Darlene LaFountain of Shelbyville, MI, Vicki Davis of Delton, MI and Dottie Grantham of Morehead, KY; and a son, Michael Millem of Linton, IN. A retired police officer, he moved here in 1979 from his native Michigan.

Miller, Robert J., 71, of Dade City, died November 17, 2001 at University Community Hospital. Survivors include a son, Allen Miller, of Dade City; two brothers, Francis Miller of Long Island City, NY and Willard Miller of Fort Lauderdale; two sisters, Ginger Donohue of Aminityville, NY and Winifred Merline of Sophia, NC; and three grandchildren. He moved to this area in 1992 from Miami and worked in the banking industry.
