He was a 26 year veteran of the Tampa Police Department, a U.S. Navy Veteran, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Dover. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dade City, the Dade City Masonic Lodge #48 and the Shriner's. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sadie; two daughters, Linda Stanley and her husband, Ronald of Wesley Chapel and Diane Sparkman of Wesley Chapel; four sisters, Frances Sparkman, Glenna Sparkman, Dorothy Reethof and Mary Elizabeth Fallin and her husband, Sam, all of Dade City; two nieces, Mary Epperson of Lutz and Lea Thomas of San Antonio; and a nephew, Evans Fallin of Fernandina Beach, Fla. BYRD, Adrian J. age 91, passed away August 18, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nellie C. Bryd; sons, Joseph `Eddie` (Robyn) of Raleigh, N.C. and William (Lauren) of Brooksville, Fla.; daughter, Adrianne Pynn (Robert) of Brandon, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Adrian was born in Ahoskie, N.C., second youngest of 14 children, all of whom have preceded him in death. Adrian and Nellie met in N.Y.C., married October 12, 1940, and moved to Norfolk, Va. where they raised their family. He retired from Norfolk Naval Air Station and they moved to Valrico, Fla. 18 years ago. They belong to Fellowship Baptist Church of Valrico. As a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Adrian was much loved and is and will be greatly missed.
