GILLESPIE, William S. `Red`, 81, of Ocala, died Sept. 26, 2002. He is survived by a son; a daughter; two brothers; a sister; and two grandchildren.

GROOT, Wayne Edward, 51, passed away September 23, 2002 in Tampa. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Rusty Groot of Zephyrhills; three brothers, Dale Lee Groot of Zephyrhills, Robert L. Groot, Jr. of Mesa, Ariz. and Gary Adams Groot of Kenosha, Wis.; two nephews; and one niece. A Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, at Whitfield Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Don Lavallee officiating. Mr. Groot was a Custodian at the Great Lakes Naval Exchange and a Protestant. He was born July 2, 1951 in Chicago, Ill. and came to this area 15 years ago from Waukegan, Ill. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 7066 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills, FL 33541.

HIGGINSON, Robert Maynard `Bob`, 88, passed away September 24, 2002. He was born in New York City on June 15, 1914. Bob is survived by his brother, Clive M. Beckwith of Miami, Fla.; daughter, Kathleen Higginson Grover of Johnson City, Tenn.; son, David Higginson and wife, Marian of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; and grandson, Brooks Higginson of Tampa, Fla. Bob was a 1936 graduate of the US Naval Academy and attended several other universities. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II, making the dangerous North Atlantic crossing several times. Leaving the Merchant Marine as a Lt. Commander and Chief Engineer in 1946, he subsequently joined the new US Air Force as a civilian employee. In 1951 he began a long and illustrious career as a top engineer in the weapons development and missile testing range a t Eglin AFB. He contributed to the development of the Climatic Control Hanger and the Gulf Coast Missile Testing Range. Bob retired in 1976 after 43 years of service to his country. Bob loved the sea and had a passion for reading, but most importantly he was a devoted father. He loved all things living and was always a gentleman's gentleman. The family will have private services. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

HODGES, Mary Ruth, 80, of Tampa, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 27, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge John G. Hodges, Sr. She is survived by her children; sons, John G. Hodges, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl and Robert C. Hodges; a daughter, Jane H. Leverone and her husband, Tom (Lumpy), all of Tampa; a brother, Julian Betts and his wife, Beth of Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Olsen of St. Petersburg; and grandchildren, Harrison Grady Hodges, Tracy Parlin Hodges, Courtney Collier Hodges, Elizabeth Parlin Leverone, Robert Grady Leverone and Thomas Lee Leverone, Jr. Mrs. Hodges was born in Perry, Florida and had been a resident of Tampa most of her life. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild. Other m emberships include Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, The Chiselers, and the Amaryllis Garden Club. She was a volunteer (Pink Lady) at Tampa General Hospital for 19 years. Mrs. Hodges was an avid golfer and bridge player. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2002 at St. John's Episcopal Church. The R.T. Rev. Calvin O. Schofield, Jr. will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 902 S. Orleans, Tampa, FL 33606.

JONES, Richard P., Jr., age 81, of Lakeland, died Sept. 26, 2002. Survived by his wife, Alice; two sons; one daughter; three sisters; and several grandchildren.

NELSON, Robert `Bob`, 59, of Brandon, Fla. passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; a son, Michael Nelson and his wife, Bethany; a daughter, Christine Farber; two brothers, Philip Paulissen and his wife, Kay and Daryl Nelson; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A native of Kankakee, Ill. he moved to the area in 1977 coming from Okinawa, Japan. Bob was a member of the Brandon Eagles and the Brandon Elks where he was a past Exalted Ruler. He retired from the US Marine Corps after 21 1/2 years of service as a Master Sergeant, he served in Vietnam. Bob retired from the US Postal Service after 15 years of service. Memorial services will be held at the Brandon Elks Lodge, 800 Centennial Lodge Drive, Brandon, Fla. Sunday, September 29, 2002, 1 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service. Contributions may be made to Florida Elks Therapy Services, P.O. Box 49, Umatilla, FL 32784-0049 or charity of choice.

RANDALL, Annette M., 82, of Riverview, passed away September 26, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; son, Daniel Sirois of Gibsonton; daughters, Jacqueline Clarke of Cumberland, R.I. and Julie Annarummo of Warren, R.I.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

WHITE, Richard L. ` Dick`, 53, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at his home in Clearwater, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Alma White. Survivors include his longtime companion of 25 years, Richard `Rick` Heskett; sisters, Mrs. Bobbie Jean Simmeron, Marion, Ohio and Ms. Mary LaDonna Clark, Wheeling W.Va.; several nieces and nephews. He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio and moved to Florida in 1983 from Wheeling W.Va. Dick was a longtime Funeral Director in the Tampa Bay Area and presently employed by the Blount Curry and Roel Funeral Homes and Cemeteries as a Manager. He was a US Navy Veteran and belonged to the Ybor City Lions Club, past member of LifePath Hospice Funeral Director Advisory Board of Hillsborough County and other various organizations for many years. He was also a dedicated sponsor of the Chamberlain High School Band Program. A Funeral Service will be held this evening, Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until service time. INFANTE, Tobias J., 82, of New Port Richey, Florida, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 in Hudson, Florida at Hernando-Pasco Hospice House. He was born in Manhattan, New York and moved here from North Little Rock, Ark. in 1994. He was an office machine repairman and a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, Port Richey. Survivors include wife of 61 years, Carmela Infante of New Port Richey; son, Ralph Infante of Bayshore, N.Y.; daughters, Clementine Penix of Little Rock, Ark. and Nina Ynosencio of Port Richey; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

JESTICE, Roger J., 87, of New Port Richey, Fla., passed away on September 26, 2002 at Madison Pointe Nursing Center in New Port Richey. Born in Melrose Park, Ill., he moved to Florida in 1977 from Chicago, Ill. He was a retired claim representative for the Chicago Transit Authority after 30 plus years of service. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II; was a member of the Magnolia Valley Golf Club and Civic Association; and attended Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in New Port Richey. He is survived by his wife, Amelia `Amy`; a son, Roger M. Jestice; and a sister, Vera Wilcher.

LEE, Roxie S., 96, of Dade City, died Thursday, September 26, 2002 at home. A native of Suwannee County, Florida, she moved to Dade City in 1947 from Lakeland. She was a Homemaker, Retail Salesperson, Seamstress and Realtor, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lakeland. Survivors include a son, Michael Thomas Lee of Ashland City, Tennessee; three daughters, Joy Mogyorosy of Dade City, Patricia Mona of Zumbrota, Minnesota and Barbara Alford of Dade City; one brother, Bobby Stansel of Wellborn, Florida; 13 grand-children, Brenda Davis, Jim Mona, John Mona, Jerry Mona, Joel Mona, Laurie Grimsrude, Donna Boyd, Karen Peterson, Margy Mulholland, David Alford, Michael Lee, Keith Lee and Tracey Bechtelheimer; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, September 30, 2002 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 in the Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Moore officiating. She was born in Jackson, Miss. and moved here 29 years ago from Little Falls, N.J. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the St. Michael's Rosary Society. She is survived by two nephews, Michael Fulbright of Port Richey and James Fulbright of New Port Richey; one niece, Geraldine Little of California; one brother-in-law, Thaddeus Pajewski of Port Richey; and one sister-in-law, Muriel Pajewski of Port Richey.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Florida 30 years ago from Elmhurst, N.Y. He was a retired supervisor for R.E.A. Express in New York after 25 plus years of service. He is survived by a son, William Sexton of Acton, Mass.; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

SELMAN, Gylberte, 74, of Zephyrhills, died Friday, September 27, 2002 at her residence. Born in Paris, France, she moved to this area 24 years ago from Puerto Rico where her husband was stationed in the military. She was a housewife and attended Victory Baptist Church in Zephyrhills. Mrs. Selman owned and operated Cafe Lite in Zephyrhills and was a member of the Zephyrhills Art Club. She is survived by her husband, Hartzell of Zephyrhills; one son, Jim Selman of Crystal Springs; one step-son, Lawrence Oliver of Paris, France; two sisters, Claudette and Jandin, both of France; and seven grand-children. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakley Funeral Home Chapel in Dade City. Interment will follow the service in Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening September 30, 2002 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

SWINGLE, Dorothy Ann, 55, of Zephyrhills passed away September 25, 2002, in Zephyrhills. She is survived by her husband, Roy H. Swingle of Zephyrhills; four daughters, Cheryl Riley of Tampa, Diane Spice of Wisconsin, and Shirley Kessen and Kathy Kessen both of Zephyrhills; a son, Stephen Oesterreich of Oshkosh, Wis.; a sister, Beverly Elmer of Zephyrhills; 12 grandchildren; and a goddaughter, Michelle Beam. Mrs. Swingle was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Ostram. A Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, at New River Methodist Church, with Rev. Fred Place officiating. Mrs. Swingle was born November 1, 1946 in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and came to this area in 1992 from Wisconsin. She was a Home Health Aid and a Methodist. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan B. Coleman Breast Cancer Foundation.

Tipton, Jr.; four daughters, Jenny Taylor of Dade City, Debi Rodgers of Nashville, Tenn., B.J. Tipton of Ridge Manor and Karen Legendre of Bedford, N.H.; two sons, Claude Junior Clabo of Shreveport, La. and Charles James Tipton of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers; five sisters; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her extended family at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Dade City. She was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brooksville, Fla. and was a beloved wife and devoted mother to all of her children. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Coleman & Ferguson Funeral Home with Dr. Gregory B. Champagne officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or those who wish can make a memorial contribution to the Hernando-Pasco Hospice of Dade City.
