VALENTI, Maria Elisa, age 96, of St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away Friday, November 1, 2002 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg. She was born in Cuba and came to Tampa when she was 17 years old and then moved to St. Petersburg in 1971. Maria was of the Presbyterian Faith and worked in the Cigar Industry for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth and husband Robert Grau of St. Petersburg, and Sylvia Evangeline and husband Dr. Paul Thompson of Winter Haven; sisters, Helen Brownlee, Amalia Reese, Bertha Martinez and Ophelia Edwards of Marietta, Ga.; brother Eugene McNenney of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Laura Parker of Winter Haven, Steven Thompson of Melbourne and Jeffrey Grau of St. Petersburg; great-granddaughter, Nicole Parker; and a host of several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 3, 2 p.m. at the Blount Curry & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa, with private interment at a later date. Family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Suncoast Hospice in Pinellas County or LifePath Hospice of Hillsborough County in memory of her.

BISHOP, Pearl C. `Polly`, 76, of Port Richey, Fla., passed away on October 31, 2002 at Gulfside Hospice House. Born in Fayette County, Pa., she moved to Florida 20 years ago from Chillicothe, Ohio. She was a homemaker. She is survived by one son, Michale Bishop of Overland, Mo.; one daughter, Alice Egan of Redwood City, Calif.; four grandchildren, Thomas and Mark Egan and Jeffrey and Joseph Bishop; and three great-grandchildren, R.J. and Jake Horstman and Natalie Bishop. National Cremation Society, New Port Richey, Fla.

KELLEY, James Arthur, Jr., 87, of Dade City, died October 18, 2002. He was born June 26, 1915 in Buffalo, N.Y. Mr. Kelley was also a United States Army Veteran. He is survived by two sisters, Rita Sander of Buffalo, N.Y. and Patricia Gardon of Kenmore, N.Y. Oakley Funeral Home, Dade City, is in charge of arrangements.

SCHIRALDI, Paula S., age 89 of Port Richey, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Center in New Port Richey. She was born in New York City and came her 32 years ago from Bronx, N.Y. She was a housewife and Roman Catholic, where she attended St. James the Apostle church in New Port Richey. Survivors; two nephews, Francis P. Sforza of Miami and Raymond D. Sforza of Palm City; one niece, Ann Marie Tarr of New York City, N.Y. TOLFREE, Donald E., 73, of Zephyrhills, died Thursday, October 31, 2002 at Heritage Park Specialty Care Center. Born in Vesterburg, Michigan, he moved to this area 30 years ago from Brandt, Michigan. He was a retired Concrete Contractor and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Zephyrhills. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Oakley Funeral Home in Dade City with Pastor Ted DeLong officiating. Interment will follow the service in Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2002 at the funeral home. Mr. Tolfree is survived by his wife, Sarah; two sons, Edward Tolfree of Mt. Morris, Mich. and Donald Tolfree of St. Charles, Mich.; two daughters, Patricia James of Zephyrhills and Jackie Welsh of St. Charles, Mich.; four sisters, Marie Vea of Vesterburg, Mich., Olive Larkin of Montrose, Mich., Florence Dickerson of Standish, Mich. and Lila Slanding of of Alger, Mich.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ALDRIDGE, Ashley `Hank` age 80, of Apollo Beach, passed away November, 1, 2002. A native of Pink Hill, N.C., he has been a resident in Florida since 1978. Mr. Aldridge served six and a half years in the Navy during World War II as an Electrician's Mate on the U.S.S. Bainbridge and Chief Electrician's Mate on the U.S.S. Hyman naval destroyers. He worked as an electrical foreman for Municipal Electric Co. in N.Y. for 30 years and was a member of the Retirees Association local #3 I.B.E.W. He was also a member of the VFW, Ruskin Post. He is survived by his wife, Carole Rininger AIdridge; two daughters, Bonnie Coogan and husband Mike, and Christine AIdridge; two grandchildren, Craig Coogan and wife Angela, and Kimberly Coogan; children of his wife Carole, Sherri, Polly, Kelly, Tammy, Mark, Beth, Leslie, and their spouses; his special `son` Richard O'Connor; and many others who loved him very much. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 4 2002 at 2 p.m. at Lewers Funeral Home in Ruskin. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

ANDREWS, Gwendolyn Faye, 24, former resident of Tampa, Fla., was killed in a traffic accident on October 23, 2002 in Columbus, Ohio where she was currently residing. Gwen, a 1996 graduate of Chamberlain High School, Tampa; is survived by her mother and father, Vicki Lyn and Roger Andrews; and brother, Alex, of Tampa. Other surviving relatives are maternal grandparents, Patricia Naegele of Columbus, Ohio and Fred and Barb Smith of Westerville, Ohio. Gwen had many aunts, uncles and cousins living in Columbus, Wooster and Uniontown, Ohio and Ringling, Okla. Gwen left behind numerous friends from Ohio and Florida. A memorial service was held Saturday, October 26, at Central College Presbyterian Church, Westerville, Ohio. Arrangements were handled by Moreland Funeral Home, Westerville, Ohio. Gwendolyn was a member of the Forest Hills United Methodist Church, Tampa, and a Red Cross organ and tissue donor. Memorial donations may be made in her name. The earth has lost a ray of sunshine.

BOLTON, Josephine, 67, of Tampa, passed away October 31, 2002. She is survived by her son, Jesse Bolton; daughters: Gwen Brooks and Terri Cunneen and her husband, Tim; brother, Andy Mothershed and his wife, Linda; sister, Jane Culver and her husband, Charlie; grandchildren: Jamie Brooks and Kadie Yuhas. Mrs. Bolton was a bus driver for the Hillsborough County school system for 23 years. Her mission in life was to `save` her children; to see her children live for the Lord and saved by the blood of Christ. Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 4, 2002, at Noon, in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.

CHAPMAN, Brian Joseph, age 15, of Tampa, passed away November 1, 2002. Preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Abelardo and Ofelia Valdes and Joseph and Lennis Des Champs. Brian is survived by his mother, Michelle L. Lopez; father, Brian L. Chapman; maternal grandmother, Patricia Des Champs Valdes; paternal grandmother, Beatrice Chapman; maternal grandfather, Abelardo Valdes and wife, Joyce; stepfather, Miguel Lopez, Jr.; brother, Miguel Lopez, III; sister, Ariel Lopez; and many other loving family members. The family would like to give special thanks to LifePath Hospice of Sun City Center for their loving care and attention. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock at Sunset Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to LifePath Hospice of Sun City Center in memory of Brian Joseph Chapman. GANDARILLA, Gicela, 78, of Tampa, passed away November 1, 2002 in Tampa.. Mrs. Gandarilla was preceded in death by her husband, Miguel; and son, Jorge Alvarez. Survivors include her son, Robert and wife Wendy; daughter-in-law. Haydee Alvarez; grandchildren, Willy Alvarez, Eileen Alvarez Rodriguez, Jacqueline Gandarilla Fernandez and husband Peter, Marilyn Gandarilla and La uren Gandarilla; great-grandchildren, Sasha Alvarez, Savannah Rodriguez and Jorge Rodriguez. Mrs. Gandarilla was born in San Antonio de los Banos, Cuba. She worked as a seamstress for Speedline Athletic Wear, before retiring. She was a loving mother and friend and will be missed by all. A Funeral Mass for the reposed of her soul will be celebrated Monday 1 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at funeral chapel.

GEER, LaVonne Frances (Thornton), 82, of Temple Terrace passed away Thursday, October 31, 2002. She was born in Blackwater, Missouri to John and Mary (Roles) Thornton on February 29, 1920 and later received a B.A. degree in Music Education from Harding College in Searcy, Ark. She, her husband, and four children moved to Bradenton, Fla., in 1954. After twenty-seven years as a first grade teacher, she retired in 1981 and moved to Brandon; then later to Temple Terrace. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Geer in January, 1979; and a sister, Marilyn Whitelaw, in 1984. She is survived by two sons, John Charles Geer and Alan Karl Geer; two daughters, Rosemary Ann Thompson and Marilyn Jean Payne, all from the Greater Tampa Bay area; sister, Raylene Larsen of Brandon, Fla.; and brother, John P. Thornton of Ridgecrest, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces; nephews; and loving friends.
Thank You Mother for your continual deeds of kindness and selflessness in seeking to service others under any circumstances. Your thankful attitude and words of gratitude toward your family as they cared for you in these last months has been once again, a beautiful manifestation of your inner person. Thank you for leaving us the legacy of such a godly woman and for being the personification of Dorcas in much and will miss you so terribly. Viewing, 1 - 3 p.m. and Funeral service 3 p.m., will be conducted on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at the Temple Terrace Church of Christ, 501 Bullard Parkway, Temple Terrace, FL 33617. HILL, Edna Chancey, passed away on Monday night, October 28, 2002 at home with her family.
She was born in Winder, Ga. and moved to Tampa in 1957. She is survived by her devoted husband, Howard L. Hill; they were married 53 years; her daughter, Vicki Hill Hoffman and husband, Joe Hoffman of Atlanta, Ga.; son, H. Lee Hill of Tampa; granddaughter, Jennifer Hill Peterson and husband Ryan Peterson; and grandson, Joseph Hoffman, all of Athens, Ga. Her sisters, Frances Smith of Redington Shores, Fla., Johnnie Lou Patillo of Boynton Beach, Fla., Debbie O'Connell of Palm Beach, Fla., Helen Hill of Gray, Ga., Becky Gunter of Columbus, Miss. and Katie Bishop of Athens, Ga.; and her brothers, Lewis Chancey of Boynton Beach, Fla., Ronald Chancey of Winder, Ga., and Bill Chancey of Tucson, Ariz., will miss her greatly. Edna's spirit was realized in her community service. She served as Public Relations Director for University Community Hospital of Tampa. She was President of the Red Cross Angels and was the Chairman of the first Red Cross Ball in Tampa. She was a Member of the Sword of Hope Guild for the American Cancer Society. She was a founding member of the Krewe of Venus, where she was the first woman President. She was a Duchess, wife of a King, and mother of a Queen. In 2002 , she was recipient of the Lucille Cochran Award for dedication, honor, and service. Edna graciously welcomed the King of Sweden when her husband, Howard, was Knighted. She was a member of The Tampa Yacht and Country Club, The University Club, The Tampa Woman's Club, and The 39 ers Club. Edna was a member of the First Christian Church of Tampa where she served as a Deaconess. She was President of the Christian Women's Fellowship, and Circle Leader. She was active in an Agape Group and President of the Homebuilder's Sunday School class. Edna was known for her unselfishness and generosity. The loss of her impact as a single individual on so many lives will leave a tremendous void. She had a caring spirit and was full of unconditional love and friendship. Her giving spirit made her `larger th an life`. Her greatest accomplishment was her children, Vicki and Lee, and her grandchildren. She delighted in their joys and triumphs. Her granddaughter Jennifer's wedding, in December of 2001, was one of the highlights of her life. The celebration of love was what Edna was all about. Funeral services will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy, Winder, Ga., on Saturday, November 2. A Cel ebration of Edna Hill's Life will be held in Tampa at the First Christian Church, 350 Hyde Park Avenue on Sunday, November 10, at 2:30 p.m. Following the celebration, the family will receive visitors in the Church Fellowship Hall. For 20 years, Edna supported the Children's Home. She was twice President of what is now the South Tampa Auxiliary of the Children's Home, Inc. The family requests that contributions be sent to The South Tampa Auxiliary of the Children's Home, Inc., 10909 Memorial Hwy, Tampa, FL 33615. At every sunrise and every sunset, we will remember the joy of Edna, and the beauty of her heart and soul.

Survivors include, one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph David and Cecile Ladd of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren, Laura Lou and Anthony Nino Ladd of Tampa, Fla.; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martel was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Roy Watkins and is survived by her husband of 62 years, Elmer; sons, Ed Martel and his wife Dorothy, Fred Martel and his wife Michelle; daughters, Karen Tracz and her husband Mike, Linda D'Aquila and her husband Tony, Patti Watkins, Lisa Kropczynski and her husband Mark; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Blount Curry & Roel Funeral Home, Garden of Memories Chapel, 4207 E. Lake Avenue. Funeral services will be held on Monday at the funeral home chapel at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
