FLOYD, Carl C., 94, of Haines City, passed away Oct. 31, 2002. Born in Atlanta, Ga., on Oct. 31, 1908, he attended Atlanta and Loganville, Ga., public schools. He came to Tampa area in 1928 to open a branch office for Republic Motion Pictures. He was founder, president and C.E.O. of Floyd Theatres from its establishment in 1940 until 1969. He was the Chairman of the Board and C.E.O. of Floyd Enterprises until retirement in 1977. Mr. Floyd is predeceased by his wife, Esther Ferris Floyd; and his parents, Aaron B. and Connie Floyd. He is survived by one son, Tom Floyd of Winter Haven; four daughters, Ginger Phillips of Belleair, Judy Thompson, Haines City, Susan Center, Belleair, and Sally Snyder of Winter Haven; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Floyd was senior member of the Florida Advertising Commission under Gov. Fuller Warren from 1949-1952, and while a member instituted the summer advertising campaign which started the summer tourist business in Florida. He was Chairman of the Haines City Area War Bond Drive during World War II, receiving government commendation for his outstanding success in this work. Also, he was the first fund raising drive Chairman of the Heart of Florida Hospital; a founding member of the Board of Trustees of the Bishop Gray Inn, Episcopal Retirement Home; a former member of the Foundation Board of Winter Haven Hospital; life member of the Elks Club; former member Board of Directors of the State Bank of Haines City; former member of Capital City Club of Atlanta, Lake Region Yacht and Country Club, and served on the Board of Go vernors; former member University Club of Tampa; former member of Lone Palm Country Club of Lakeland; lifetime member of Navy League; and life member Republican President's Task Force and Republican Senatorial Inner Circle. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002 at St. Marks Episcopal Church, Haines City. GEER, LaVonne Frances (Thornton), 82, of Temple Terrace passed away Thursday, October 31, 2002. She was born in Blackwater, Missouri to John and Mary (Roles) Thornton on February 29, 1920 and later received a B.A. degree in Music Education from Harding College in Searcy, Ark. She, her husband, and four children moved to Bradenton, Fla., in 1954. After twenty-seven years as a first grade teacher, she retired in 1981 and moved to Brandon; then later to Temple Terrace. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Geer in January, 1979; and a sister, Marilyn Whitelaw, in 1984. She is survived by two sons, John Charles Geer and Alan Karl Geer; two daughters, Rosemary Ann Thompson and Marilyn Jean Payne, all from the Greater Tampa Bay area; sister, Raylene Larsen of Brandon, Fla.; and brother, John P. Thornton of Ridgecrest, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Your thankful attitude and words of gratitude toward your family as they cared for you in these last months has been once again, a beautiful manifestation of your inner person. PASCH, Richard S. of Lutz, Florida passed away Friday, November 1, 2002, surrounded by his wife and children. Richard was born April 26, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wis. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Hotel Restaurant Management and was a Lieutenant in the US Army and served in the Korean War. Richard moved to Tampa, Fla. in 1956 and acquired the Frisch's Big Boy franchise for the Tampa Bay area. In 1980 he and his wife acquired the Haagen-Dazs distribution franchise for Central Florida under the name RICH-DIP INC. He was past-President of the Florida Restaurant Association; a Florida High School Athletic Association football referee; member of the Westshore Sertoma Club; and president of the Blue Ridge Pioneers of North Carolina, a Motor Coach Group. Upon his retirement, Richard enjoyed his passion for golf and traveling the country in his motor coach. Preceded in death by his parents, David and Sylvia Pasch, he is survived by his wife, Irene (Campbell); sisters, Judy Samoski, Mimi Jacobsohn and Marilyn Libman; children, Terry Thompson (Joe), Ellen Frederick (David), Jeff Pasch (Kimberly), Laurie Schroeder (Doug), Edward S. SMILEY, Rosa Lee (Bullard), born June 27, 1929, died November 2, 2002. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David E. Smiley, Jr.; parents, Willis and Annie Bullard; brothers, John Ira, Earle and Roy Bullard. She is survived by her loving son, David E. Smiley, III and his wife Melissa of Tampa; brothers, Merle (Myra) of Lake Wales, Fla., Junior (Joan) of Lake Placid, Fla., George (Carolyne) of Gonzales, La., and Charles (Barbara) of Rockledge, Fla.; sisters, Betty Caudhill of Lake Placid, Fla., Joyce Albritton (Arthur) of Frost Proof, Fla., and Linda Simmons of Defuniak Springs, Fla.; sister-in-law, Lucille Bullard of Lakeland, Fla.; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Georgia, Rosa Lee moved to Frostproof at a very young age. Being the eldest of 11 children, she helped raise her brothers and sisters, until graduating from Frostproof High School. She soon moved to Tampa to work at The Tampa Times newspaper, which at that time was owned by the Smiley family, where she met and married her beloved husband, David Jr. They enjoyed over 40 years of marriage, until his death in 1993. Rosa Lee was heavily involved in her local church, Bayshore Baptist, where she taught free quilting classes, of which she was a master, and also assisted in maintaining the church library. Rosa Lee will be dearly missed by those who loved her deeply. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 7, 2002 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Noon at the Marsicano-B. STENZEL, Carl R., 75, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2002 at University Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin Frank and Herman George Stenzel; sisters, Evelyn Stenzel, Helen Franz and Edith Groves. He is survived by his children, Carol Lee Hixson of Adrian, Mich., Gary L. Stenzel of Tampa, Fla., Scott C. Stenzel of Sarasota, Fla., and Valerie A. Woods of Marietta, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Jenna, Grayson and Austin Stenzel, Bryce, Brett, Kirstyn and Bryan Hixson, Shelby and Haley Woods; one sister, Irene Stenzel; one brother, Fred K. Stenzel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Stenzel was born and raised in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Stenzel was a veteran of the US Navy and served during World War II. He then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Stenzel raised his family and was a farmer in Princeton, Ill. He was active in the Boy Scouts and was a leader for many years in which he received the Silver Beaver award. A 38 year member and past Commander of American Legion Post 125 Mr. Stenzel also was a life member of The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge #587 AF&AM for 53 years and was a Scottish Rite Shriner. He was an Elder with First Presbyterian Church and superintendent of Sunday School. Also, he was precinct committeeman for the republican party and served as commissioner of the Bureau County Board. He was born March 30, 1936 in Vermont, and moved to this area five years ago from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He was a retired network technician for Bell South. He had been active in the Dade City Little League Program as a Coach and also with the East Pasco Youth Soccer League.
