SCHMITT, Robert L., 63, US Air Force Retired and Hillsborough County Deputy Sheriff/ Corrections Retired, of Tampa, Fla., passed away on November 18, 2002 of natural causes under the care of the LifePath Hospice House in Sun City Center, Fla. A native of Mandan, N.D., Robert moved to the local area in 1971 from Phoenix, Ariz. and retired from Mac Dill AFB in Tampa in 1977 after 20 years of dedicated and faithful service. He then joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff Office as a Corrections Officer and served the Sheriff Office for 24 years retiring in June 2002. Robert had a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and belonged to the Shiners, BPOE ELKS, John Darling Masonic Temple, Fraternal Order of Police, Florida Sheriff's Association, Boys Ranch, a Vietnam Veteran and of the Catholic Faith. He is survived by his loving family; his wife, Rita Balog Schmitt of Tampa; a son, Wayne Beyer of Bahama, N.C.; a daughter, AnnaMarie (Tenna) Hammond of Niceville, Fla.; a grandchild, Christopher Hammond of Niceville, Fla.; and a brother, Doug Schmitt of Minneapolis, Minn. The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, that donations can be made to the LifePath Hospice House, 1647 Sun City Center Place, Suite 104, Sun City Center, FL 33573 in the memory of Robert L. Schmitt.

SERRANO, Pedro, 87, died quietly Sunday morning, November 17, 2002. He was surrounded by his wife, Haydee; daughters, Myriam and Dally; two brothers, Amelio and Miguel and their wives, Delia and Matilde. Other survivors include son-in-laws, Eddie and Roger; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to doctors Donald Temple, John Delgado, Humberto Coto, Jayant Gajera, Alan Iezzi and their staff. A most heartfelt thank you to the Hospice Staff of Pasco County especially Angela, Sue, Gloria and Lupe.

SHINNERS, Maurice W., `Maury`, born in 1924, passed away November 18, 2002. Maury was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice and is survived by his sons, Craig and his wife, Robin and two grandsons, Scott and Eric and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Conner, all from Dallas; his second son, Paul works and resides in Clearwater; and his son, Mark and his wife, Jackie and his grandson, Adam, all from Los Angeles. He is also survived by his brother, James and wife, Mary Anne and their children. Our father was born in Chicago, Illinois and served his country as a Marine during World War II. He moved his family to Florida in 1956. Maurey was best known locally as the Producer and Operating Officer of the famous Showboat Dinner Theater. The Showboat led its industry for over 20 years as the most successful dinner theater in the country. Maurey was elected President of the American Dinner Theater Institute and led that organization until retirement. Maurey has been credited with pioneering the `Star System` which launched many film and TV stars careers. Maurey was a loving husband and father, a true role model. He will be remembered fondly in our hearts. In loving memory of our father, a memorial service will be held Thursday, November 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Moss Feaster Funeral Homes, 693 South Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida 33764, 727-446-2375.

SIMPSON, Reata, 69, of Tampa, died November 16, 2002. Survived by sons, John, Michael and Curtis; three sisters; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

STAINBACK, Russell `Rusty`, Jr., 41, of Plant City, died November 16, 2002. Survived by his loving family. Graveside services will be held in Springhead Cemetery on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.

SULLIVAN, C.M., Jr. `Buddy`, passed away November 19, 2002. Mr. Sullivan retired from the City of Tampa and Hartline. He is survived by his loving wife, Nina Sullivan; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Clayton Zwak; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Latha Sullivan; sister, Barbara Coats; two brothers- in-law, J.E. Howard and Donald Welch; five grandchildren, Clayton Zwak, Jr., and wife Peggy, Nia Baker and James Hughes, Latha Kelly and husband Tim, Alisha Sullivan, and Douglas Sullivan; and six great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Garden of Memories Chapel, 4207 E. Lake Avenue. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

SWEET, Ruth, age 87, of Dayton, Tennessee and formerly of Tampa, Fla., died Sunday, November 17, 2002 in Dayton. Ruth was born in Bowling Green, Ky. on March 15, 1915 the daughter of the late Carl and Lucy (Sutton) Howerton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Sweet and her son, Howard L. Sweet, Jr. Ruth graduated from Bowling Green Business College in 1927. Later she moved to Tampa in 1932 where she lived until December of 2001 then moving to Dayton where she was a homemaker. Ruth's survivors include her three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Mrs. Sweet will be Thursday, November 21, 2002 at 11 a.m. in Garden of Memories in Tampa, Fla. The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, Tenn., (423) 775-2662.

TOMPKINS, Bernice L., 86, of Tampa, passed away November 18, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, LJ `Shorty` Tompkins; grandson, Terrance Hall; and great-grandson, Shane Buckner. She is survived by her daughters, Pat (John) Sandifer and Nancy (Ignacio) Quintanilla; sister, Dot Beene; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21 at the chapel of Adams & Jennings Funeral Home. Varde of Twinsburg, Ohio; daughter, Darlene Varde: sisters, Viola Beiro, Abdulia `Odie` Sarabia and Evangeline Rodriguez; grandchildren, Todd and Greg Varde, Raymond Menendez and five great-grandchildren. WILLIAMS, Jr., Anderson, 78, of Tampa, formerly of St. Petersburg, died on Sunday, November 3, 2002 at James A. Haley Veteran's Administration Hospital. A native of Tampa, Florida, he moved to St. Petersburg, at an early age and attended the public schools of Pinellas County graduating from Gibbs High School. He toured Europe with the Paul Johnson Choir. In the early 1950's he moved to New York, and later moved to Connecticut in the 1970's. He returned to the Tampa area in 1996. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music from Xavier University, New Orleans, La.; a Master's Degree in Music and Social Work from Columbia University of New York. He was a retired social worker with Centro de la Comunidad and with the State of Connecticut, The Department of the Navy, The United States Coast Guard Academy and the Family Service Association. He also served as a volunteer for the Big Brothers & Sisters Association and with the Tampa Public Library Literacy Program; member of the American Legion, the committee to keep Rogers Park Public, Uhuru, and the National Association of Social Workers; member of the American Legion; a professional singer, he sang at the Amato Opera Theatre and at the Carnegie Recital Hall. He served in the United States Army. Survivors include his daughter, Janice M. Williams, Tampa; one brother, Samuel Brazelton and wife Elizabeth, Tampa; one sister, Katherine Washington , Los Angeles, Calif.; and his nieces, Delores Moore and husband G.B., Bronx, N.Y., Reaba McGier and husband David, Inkster, Mich.; godfather, Kelley Wyatt and wife Bernice, New Yo rk, N.Y., and many loving friends. ANSLEY, Verna D., 80, of Wesley Chapel, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2002 at Tampa General Hospital. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She was an accountant for BP Oil. She is survived by her daughter, Annette (David) Edwards; one brother, Robert Dunagan; one grandson, Jason Edwards, serving in the US Air Force in England; and nieces and nephews.

BLEAU, Harvey R. `Steve`, 64, of New Port Richey, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at North Bay Medical Center in New Port Richey. Born in Taylorsville, Mississippi, he came here 32 years ago from Atlanta, Ga. He was a Roman Catholic and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Steve was a mobile home parks and sales developer for Tanglewood Mobile Sales, Inc. of Holiday. Other affiliations include, Paradise Post #79, American Legion of New Port Richey, Moose Lodge of New Port Richey, West Pasco Sertoma and Florida Sheriff's Assn. He also donated mobile homes to Angelus and the Boys & Girls Club. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Betty D.; a son, Steven Bleau of Tampa; his mother, Grace Bleau of Holiday; two brothers, Denny of Buckhead, Ga. and Douglas of New Port Richey; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. CARBONARO, Domenick,78 , of New Port Richey, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at his residence. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved here from East Northport, N.Y. in 1985 . He was a tile setter with the Tile Layers Union, Local 52 in New York City. He was Roman Catholic, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Felix Ulrich Council, and a veteran of the US Navy in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Florence; son, Gerard Carbonaro of Holly Springs, N.C.; four daughters, Antoinette Ayala of Rutland, Vt., Janet Jones of Babylon, N.Y., Linda Haddad of East Northport, N.Y. and Lisa Erickson of Broomfield, Colo.; a sister, Rose Friscia of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends on Thursday, November 21, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at North Meadowlawn Funeral Home, New Port Richey, Fla., (727) 849-9281. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, November 22 at St. James the Apostle Church in New Port Richey. Interment will be at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

CARROCCIO, Betty L. 73, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina and formerly of New Port Richey, died Sunday, November 17, 2002 at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, South Carolina. She was born in Knox, Indiana and moved to Travelers Rest, S.C. from New Port Richey in December 1999. She retired in 1988 as a Registered Nurse from Community Hospital of New Port Richey after 12 years of service. She was previously a branch manager of Ogden Food Services in New Orleans, La. with 25 years of service. Betty graduated with honors from St. Petersburg Junior College as an RN in 1978, was a Protestant and a life member of the DAV Auxiliary Post #78 in New Port Richey. Survivors include her two sons, William Carroccio, Jr. of New Orleans, La. and Michael J. Carroccio of Baton Rouge, La.; three daughters, Suzanne C. Thomas of Hendersonville, N.C., Elizabeth A. Clark of Travelers Rest, N.C. and Mary J. `Penney` Carroccio of Holiday; one brother, Rev. Ronald J. Humes of Union, S.C.; five grand children; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 21, 2002 from 2-2:30 p.m. with a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. at Dobies Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens. CHRISTOPHER, Pauline, 98, of Ridge Manor, died Wednesday, November, 20, 2002 at home. A native of Alpena, Michigan, she came to this area in 1973 from Short Hills, NJ. She was a retired Biology and Zoology Professor and was Presbyterian. Survivors include a son; a sister; five grandchildren; two nieces; and a nephew.

GIBSON, James `Jim` L., 39, of Port Richey, died Sunday, November 17, 2002 at his home. He was born in Maquoketa, Iowa and moved to Port Richey from Quantico, Va. in 1994. Jim was a laborer and a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He was also a member of the Sertoma Club in New Port Richey. Survivors include his wife, Donna Gibson; two sons, James L. Gibson, Jr. and Kyler J. Gibson; daughter, Tiffiney E. Gibson, all of Port Richey; parents, Jack and Dianne Gibson of Davenport, Iowa; two brothers, Joseph A. Gibson and Jeffrey L. Gibson, both of Davenport, Iow; sister, Deanna M. Malmberg, of Bellevue, Neb.; several nieces and nephews; and several aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at Dobies Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the family.

LEHTONEN, Richard Matthew, 84, of Holiday, died Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Gulfside Regional Hospice House, Lafayette Street, New Port Richey. He was born in Chisholm, Minnesota and moved to Holiday from St. Paul, Minn. in 1987. He was a retired auditor for Burlington Railroad, St. Paul, Minn with over 30 years of service, and Army Veteran of World War II, a Methodist and a Past Commander with American Legion Post #416 in St. Paul, Minn. Survivors include his sister, Lillian E. Olila of West St. Paul, Minn.; three nieces; and two nephews.

PIELA, Chester `Old Ches` J., 78, of St. Charles, Ontario and winter resident of Holiday, died Monday, November 18, 2002. He was born in Sokoluv, Poland. Hw was a winter resident of Florida for 40 years and a winter resident of Holiday for two weeks. Mr. Piela was an Electrician/Supervisor with 35 years of service for International Nickel Co. in Copper Cliff, Ontario, Canada and a member of the Quarter Century Club of the International Nickel Co. in Copper Cliff. He was a Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline E. Piela of St. Charles, Ontario; son, Michael Joseph Piela and his wife, Melinda of Sudbury, Ontario; sister, Jean and her husband, Lou Del Brocco of Orillia, Ontario; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Alexandra Piela, both of Sudbury, Ontario.

READ, Ann H., 82, of Zephyrhills, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2002 at East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills. Ann was born July 4, 1920 in Elmhurst, New York. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zephyrhills. Ann and her late husband, George had moved to the Zephyrhills area some 27 years ago from Washington , D.C. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father John Hays officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Ann is survived by three sons, Joseph (Lisa) Read of Zephyrhills, Paul Read of San Francisco, Calif. and George Read of Portland, Ore; two daughters, Jane (Alan) Tabayoyon of Portland, Ore. and Anne Read of Sacramento, Calif.; three grandsons, Taylor, Patrick and Noah Read of Zephyrhills; two sisters, Margaret (John) Clanton of Zephyrhills and Elizabeth Maguire of Sacramento, Calif.; sister-in-law, Gloria Read of Zephyrhills; as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday (TODAY) from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to `Feed the Children Foundation` or charity of choice.

TEDESCO, Jennie, 92, of New Port Richey, passed away November 13, 2002 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey. She was born February 16, 1910 in New York City and came here eight years ago from New Rochelle, N.Y. She was retired from C&G Dress Co. in New Rochelle. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in New Port Richey, St. Joseph's Altar Society in New Rochell and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

TOUMEY, Anna M. 91, of New Port Richey, Florida, died Monday, November 18, 2002 at Heather Hill Nursing Home in New Port Richey. She was born in Manhattan, New York and moved to New Port Richey from Bradenton in 1997. She was a Customer Service Representative for AT&T for 40 years. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hudson and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Long Island, N.Y. Survivors include sister, Irene M. Thiel of New Port Richey; and two nieces, Irene Tobin of Palm Harbor and Marianne Graziano of New Port Richey. Visitation will be Thursday, November 21, 2002 from 2-4 p.m. at Brown & Sons Funeral Home, 5624 26th St. W., Bradenton. Funeral mass will be Friday, November 22, 2002 at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, Bradenton. Burial will follow at Mansion Memorial Park, Ellenton.

VOYTKO, Geraldine, age 81, of Zephyrhills, passed away Nov. 19, 2002. She was born May 31, 1921 in Munsville, N.Y., and had been a resident of Zephyrhills for 22 years. Mrs. Voytko is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Voytko Sr. She was a retired homemaker and a Catholic by faith. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Steve F. and Barbara Voytko of Largo, Andrew J. and Janet Voytko of Green River, Wyoming, James P. and Lorraine Voytko of Lebanon, New Jersey, and John M. Voytko of Casper, Wyoming; daughter and son-in-law, Mary B. and Michael Reffit of Zephyrhills; sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Leo Lynch of Lakeland; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. Services were held out of state.

BARRES, Anna S., 90, of Sun City Center, died Nov. 19, 2002 at South Bay Hospital. She is survived by her sister, Lillian A. Johnson of Sun City Center, Florida.
