HUFF, Donald Eugene, 79, went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2002. Donald lived in Springfield Twp., Ohio most of his life. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 47 years of service. Donald served in the US Army during World War II and was a devoted member of Springfield Church of the Brethren and will be remembered as a faithful servant. JONES, Louis `Red,` 90, of Tampa, passed away on November 11, 2002. He was born April 2, 1912 in Balsam, N.C. He was a Christian, and a Salesman who worked for Gulf Oil Co. in N.C., Ferman Chevrolet and ITT, both of Tampa. He was a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club and the United Commercial Travelers of America. He is survived by his daughter, Myrtle Bowen Lowder of Jonesbourgh, Tenn.; grandson, Michael Lewis Lowder of Orlando; granddaughters, Quinette Ludlam of Toccoa, Ga. and Claudia Bergquist of Jonesbourgh, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. KENNEDY, Jr., Roger `Ken`, a Christian was called to his reward in heaven on November 20, 2002. In 1981, he was preceded in death by his son, Tra. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol; his daughter, Kalen and husband Jim Healey; and his four grandchildren, Layne and Shelby Lacasse, and Blake and Lauren Healey. Roger held a Master of Divinity from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a graduate of the University of Florida, and he graduated from Landon High School in Jacksonville, Fla. As a veteran of the Korean Conflict in the US Army, Roger's final resting place will be at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. At his request, there will be no services or visitation.
MADDOX, Charlie, 83, of Tampa, passed away November 13, 2002. He was a retired Skycap for the Tampa International Airport after 40 years of service. OWEN, John William, III, 45, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2002, at his home in Tampa. John was born in Memphis, Tenn., on July 8, 1957, to the late John W. Owen, Jr. and Frances Holloman Owen. He was raised in Memphis and graduated from Memphis University School in 1975. He attended Georgia Tech, was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. While attending Mississippi State, he was a co-op student with the Army Corps of Engineers. In 1981, he began his career with HNTB Corporation in Baton Rouge, La., as a transportation engineer. His 21 years of employment with HNTB led him to Tallahassee, Fla., in 1983, and then to Tampa, Fla. in 1987. Local design projects in which he was involved in include the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway, Veterans Expressway and the re-design of I-275 from Himes Ave. to the Howard Frankland Bridge currently under way. He was also part owner of Gallatin Alpine Sports in Big Sky, Mont. John was a member of Harborside Christian Church in Safety Harbor and a former member of First Evangelical Church in Memphis. He volunteered with United Wa y Tampa Bay, serving on the Basic Needs/Self Sufficiency Investment Team. John is survived by his mother, Frances Holloman Owen; two sisters, Marye Helen Owen and Holly Owen; two nieces, Meghean H. Warren and Elizabeth H. Owen, all of Memphis, Tenn.; and a brother, Tom R. Owen of Gallatin Gateway, Mont. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Bayside Community Chu rch of God, 3380 State Road 580 in Safety Harbor. QUICK, Reverend Gerald, age 81, of Plant City, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2002. Rev. Quick was the founder of the Senior Adult Ministries at First Baptist Church of Plant City. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart medal. He was a member of Plant City Rotary, American Legion Post #26, a past state commander for the State of Tennessee and he also worked for WPLA. Survivors include two daughters, Susan and her husband, Jerry Eddlemon of Plant City and Jerry Ann Bracken of Plant City; and two grandchildren, Joseph Gerald Mendolia and Christina Susan-Bracken. WILLIAMS, Sylister Edward, Jr. passed away on November 18, 2002. God in his infinite wisdom summoned an angel to bring beloved father and son, Sylister Edward Williams, Jr. home to a beautiful and lasting peace. A Life in Reflection, he was born on May 11, 1931 in Tampa, Florida to Rebecca Williams and the late, Sylister Edward Williams, Sr. He was affectionately known as `Jiggs`. Sylister, bravely served our country in the United States Air Force during 1951- 1955. For his outstanding performance in the Air Force, he was awarded the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. While in the military, he earned a Preventive Medicine Diploma from the University of Denver, Colorado. Sylister recognized the importance of education and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree (1958) and Master of Science Degree (1962) at Florida A & M University, Tallahassee, Florida. In 1972, he began a doctoral studies program with a focus on school administration at the University of Miami. Sylister wholeheartedly believed that an investment in children was an investment in the future. He began his love of teaching in Hillsborough County at Middleton High School. Sylister later moved to South Florida and taught and coached junior varsity basketball at Crispus Attuks Senior High School (Dania, Florida). He dedicated nearly 20 years of his professional career to the students of Miami-Dade County Public Schools in a variety of capacities. He served as a social studies teacher at Robert E. Lee Junior High School. He was also a visiting teacher for the North Central Area Office and served as Administrative Assistant to the Regional Superintendent of the same area. Sylister later moved on to become principal of Nathan B. Young and M.A. Milam Elementary Schools. In addition, Sylister nurtured the minds of young adults as an adjunct professor at Florida International University. In 1982, Sylister decided it was time for a career change. He entered the `corporate world` as Vice President of Skycaps International at Miami International Airport. After spending four years in `corporate America,` Sylister figured he might be better suited for life as a civil servant. He worked for the Human Resources Department of Metro-Dade County as a Management Productivity Analyst, Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services, and Interim Director of the Office of Child Development. In 1 995, he retired and was able to spend more time enjoying his favorite pastime, golf. Sylister loved to brag about his golfing skills and often placed in the top three in amateur tournaments. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of West Tampa. Of all Sylister's accomplishments, he will be most remembered as a loving and dedic ated father. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Sabrina Edwina Williams, Sylistina Edwina Williams, Sylister Edward Williams, III, (Kennethia), Keith Shadell Williams, and Sylisa Hopkins; mother, Rebecca Benson; sister, Beverly Roberson (David Fulse); grandchildren, Kimberly Williams, Tracey Williams, Sylister E. ALLEN, Dorothy George, 78, of New Port Richey passed away at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey on November 20, 2002. She was born in Petersburg, Virginia on July 22, 1924. She came here 25 years ago from Colonial Heights, Va. She was a retired research librarian for the commanding officer of U.S. Army Logistics Center at Fort Lee, Va., and a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in New Port Richey. DAVIS, Alvin Javan, 58, was born June 9, 1944 to Margarette Davis Sneed and Curtis Davis in Dade City, Fla., passed away Friday, November 15, 2002 in Wesley Chapel. He attended Moore Elementary School and graduated from Mickens High School in 1962. He enlisted in the Army (Airborne Division) in 1964. He served in the Vietnam Conflict and ended his service time in 1971. His post military career consisted of numerous managerial positions including KFC and Friendly Restaurant chains in Syracuse, N.Y. He returned to Dade City in 1982 to care for his mother. DENIS, Donald W. , 71, of New Port Richey, died Thursday, November 21, 2002 at Community Hospital of New Port Richey. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved to New Port Richey from Palm Harbor in 1997 and to Palm Harbor from Queens, N.Y. in 1995. Mr. Denis was a retired stationary engineer for the Port Authorities of New York and New Jersey working at JFK international Airport, New York City, N.Y. with 31 years of service. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in New Port Richey. He was also a member of the VFW #10167 in Holiday, the Tarpon Springs Moose Lodge #1429 in Holiday and the New Port Richey Eagles. Survivors include wife of 49 years, Lucille A. Denis of New Port Richey; two sons, William Denis and Robert Denis, both of Selden, N.Y.; daughter, Diane Jones of Farmingville, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
