SCHELLER, Richard W., 78, of Sun City Center, Fla., died at home on March 10, 2003. He was born in Milwaukee, Wis. and moved to Florida in 1994. He is survived by his wife, Marion; son, Richard H. and wife Susan of Stanford, Calif.; grandchild, Heather O'Laughlin of Michigan City, Ind., and three sisters-in- law, Elaine Pandl of Milwaukee, Wis., Bernice Friedl of Sparta, Wis.,and Emily Scheller of Lincoln, Neb. and many additional family members and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara O'Laughlin and his parents, Frieda and William Scheller, brother William and brother-in- law, Jack Pandl. Mr. Scheller was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His career in medical and social services in Milwaukee County, Wis., spanned 28 years. He was instrumental in introducing high-tech medical research, development, and manufacturing to the Milwaukee County Medical Center Campus, including installation of the facility's first CAT scan and MRI instruments. He was recognized for his service as contract negotiator with the Medical College of Wisconsin, the Curative Rehabilitation Center, the Froedter t Memorial Lutheran Hospital and the Milwaukee Children's Hospital. In 1985 he became the Commandant of the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wis., the largest skilled care nursing facility in the state. His career was always marked by a depth of compassion for the elderly, sick, injured, and disadvantaged. Dick Sheller's passion for birds was born in 1976 when he and Marion took a course on the na tural landscape. On one memorable morning, with binoculars in hand and a talented naturalist as their guide, the Schellers took a 4-hour journey that covered only about 12 feet but revealed a rich world of birds and nature. Over the next 25 years, the Schellers traveled to Spain, Costa Rica, the Galapagos, and many other regions to observe birds, plants, and nature. SINGLETON, Walter H., 64, lifetime Tampa resident, died March 6, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert J. and Lena M. Singleton; brothers, Lawrence B., Paul J., Fred J., and Jimmy Singleton. He is survived by his wife Dian and daughter Patrice of Tampa; one brother, Herb A. Singleton and wife Claire, Marietta, Ga.; sisters, Claudia Greenwood of Tampa, Flora M. and husband D.V. Shaw, Sebring, Florida, numerous nieces and nephews. TRAINOR-David Michael, Jr., 37, native and lifelong resident of Tampa, passed away March 10, 2003. Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth; his parents, David and Tina; his sisters, Cindy and Denise; and his grandmother, Kathleen. Above all else, David was devoted to the care and upbringing of his daughter, Elizabeth. David has worked at St. Joseph Hospital for the past nine years, and will be missed by all. WATKINS, George M., Jr., M.D., 67, died on March 10, 2003, in Tampa, Fla. Dr. Watkins, a retired professor of surgery, devoted his career to academic medicine. He was born in Nashville, Tenn., and was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt School of Medicine. He completed his internship at UCLA and his surgical residency at Cornell Medical School-New York Hospital and the University of Cincinnati and was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard University. Dr. Watkins served on the faculties of the departments of surgery at the Universities of Connecticut, South Florida, and Illinois-Peoria. Dr. Watkins was a founding member and past president of the American Trauma Society, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of numerous medical societies, including the American Burn Association and the Southern Surgical Society. In 1994 Dr. Watkins received the Distinguished Service Award of the American Trauma Society for his outstanding leadership. Dr. Watkins was a flight surgeon in the US Navy, based in the Mediterranean. He also served as a volunteer in a medical mission in Pakistan. Survivors include his wife Alison; daughter Laura and Greg Renoff of Waltham, Mass.; daughter Erica of Washington , D.C.; sister, Macalyne Fristoe of Lafayette, Ind.; and 15 nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, March 15 at 4 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 15102 Amberly Drive, Tampa. CIRAN, Stefan, 98, of Bayonet Point, Fla., passed away at his residence, Wednesday, March 12, 2003. Born in Brezova Podbradlom, Czechoslovakia, he moved to Florida in 1973 from Chicago, Illinois. He owned and operated the Lincoln Poultry Store in Chicago, Illinois for many years. He also served in the Czechoslovakian Air Force and was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church, Port Richey. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the United States and Slovakia. STOWELL, Harry R., 82, of Zephyrhills, died Saturday, March 8, 2003. He was born in France and raised in the United States. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and went on to retire a Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Air Force as a pilot. He served during World War II and was a test pilot for many years.
