ALIFF, Norval Ray, 68, Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Monday, March 24, 2003. He was preceded in death by Mary Ann Aliff, his wife of 44 years. He is survived by his only child, Debra Ann Aliff; grandson, James Ray Grande; one sister, Diana and many close friends. He moved his wife and child from West Virginia to Tampa, Fla. in 1962 and worked at the Anheuser Busch plant in Tampa until December 1995, when he retired after 25 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 388. Ray was an avid hunter and sportsman, as well as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by many. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Ray's memory on Thursday, March 27, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Loyless Funeral Home Chapel, 5310 Land O' Lakes Blvd, also known as U.S. Highway 41, Land O' Lakes, FL. GARDNER, Gregory Loren, 38, of Schenectady, N.Y. died March 24, 2003. Born in Dayton, Ohio of April 13, 1964 on the 44th birthday of his maternal grandfather, Loren D. Ferguson, he lived his early childhood in Ohio and Massachusetts and his teenage and early adulthood in Virginia. In 1991, he moved to Tampa, Fla., and had recently been a resident of the Schenectady area. Greg shared his unique humor and great love of music with many. His passion for NASCAR, Mark Martin and sunsets brought joy and laughter to others and often caused others to share their passions with him. He will be remembered for his great courage and light heart by all who knew him. Greg is survived by his mother, Phyllis Gardner of Falls Church, Va., and her partner, LCOL Harry M. Mack, USMC (Ret.); his sister, DeAnna Colgazier and her husband Michael of Orlando, Fla., along with their two sons, Matthew and Thomas; and six aunts and uncles, Erma and Pilate Fyffe, Wallace and Joyce Ferguson, Betty and Virgil Haynes, Sandra and Dean Beculhimer, Veldonna and Marvin Young and Gloria and Michael Donovan. He is also survived by numerous relatives and a host of friends. MORSE, John Leighton, of Tampa, passed away March 20, 2003. He was born March 9, 1939 in Highland Park, Mich. He attended college at Tri-State Engineering College, Angola, Indiana
, before enlisting in the United States Army. John served in the 1st Cavalry in Germany. He became an aviation mechanic for Vertol Division at Boeing Aircraft, volunteering for duty in Vietnam. In 1970 John moved to Tampa and began working for Koppers, Inc., a leading roofing materials company. He had just begun his own company, The Leighton Corporation, selling a new line of roofing materials in the state of Florida. He loved his family, his cats, spicy food, good liquor and great women. Love and live life! He is survived by his daughter, Amy Morse of Queens, N.Y.; his mother, Margaret Morse of Doylestown, Pa.; his brother, Harvey Morse of Santa Fe, N.M.; and five nephews, Troy and Kevin Morse of Billings, Mont., Jim Morse of Oak Bluffs, Mass., Nate Morse of New York, N.Y., and Tim Morse of Salem, Va. SMITH, Charles Jay, Jr., 80, Fernandina Beach, Fla., husband of Muriel Smith, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003, at his residence. A native of Georgia, he was the son of the late Charles Jay Smith and Lottie Dunbar Smith, and was raised in Daytona Beach. Mr. Smith was a former sales representative for the Chevron Oil Company in Tampa, Fla. and retired in 1975 with thirty years of service. He relocated to Fernandina Beach in 1999. Mr. Smith served his country in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in General Patton's Third Army in Germany during World War II. Survivors, besides his wife, include: his children, C. J. Smith III and Danielle `Sam` McCranie, Fernandina Beach, and Michelle Smith, Tampa; a brother, Les Smith, Daytona Beach; and four grandchildren. STICKNEY, Samuel Pyror, age 80, of Brandon, died Monday, March 24, 2003 following declining health for some months. Born in Anniston, Alabama, Mr. Stickney was a resident of Brandon for 41 years. He served on the editorial board of The Tampa Times and The Tampa Tribune for 30 years, retiring in 1988. In recent years, Mr. Stickney has enjoyed spending time with his twin grandchildren, visiting Great Britain, as well as witnessing the fruits of his labor 41 years ago, i.e., the trees and plants maturing in what was once a barren two acre home site, now which consists of trees, flowers, squirrels, birds and two very spoiled cats. Mr. Stickney was a former Senior Warden and Youth Director of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, Valrico. He was most proud of the counseling help he gave to young people during the 1960's and 1970's, many of whom now have families of their own and still correspond with him. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Phyllis; daughter, Pamela McGlinchey and her husband Thomas; grandchildren, Tiffany Elizabeth and Thomas LeRoy III; and sisters, Kathryn Morgan of Sylacauga, Alabama and Alice Walker Carmichael of Sunny South, Alabama and nieces and nephews. In his regular Sunday column, dated January 4, 1981, Mr. Stickney explained why there will be no funeral service.
