He has lived in Tampa since 1984. He was self-employed and worked in the retail industry. He had an avid love for music and was a creative musician. He is survived by wife, Betty; two daughters, Carrie Runnels and Heather R. SPARKMAN, Nancy English `Nan`, 99, of Plant City, passed away May 30, 2003. Mrs. Sparkman was preceded in death by her husband, Seymour; son, Roger Sparkman; son-in-law, James W. Roberts; five brothers and four sisters. `Nan` was a lifelong resident of the area and active in her church, being a Charter member of Springhead Baptist Church and a member of First Baptist Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by three sons, Rodney Sparkman and wife Betty, David Sparkman and wife Betsy, and Mike Sparkman and wife Diane, all of Plant city; two daughters, Marilyn Roberts of Plant City and Julie Roberts and husband Paul of Valrico; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Active Pallbearers will be her grandsons, James W. Roberts, Phillip D. Roberts, Mark Sparkman, Todd Sparkman, Tom Sparkman, Chris Sparkman, Rick Roberts, Steve Roberts, and Brad Roberts. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. from First Baptist Church in Plant City with Dr. Ron Churchhill, Rev. Richard H. Bills, and Rev. Tommy Warnock officiating. VALDES, Frank J., 68, of St. Pete Beach, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at LifePath Hospice House at Sun City Center. Born in Tampa he came here in 1972. He was a twenty-five year plus partner with Garcia & Ortiz, P.A., a St. Petersburg-Tampa CPA firm. An avid boater, he was past Commmodore of the Pass-A-Grille Yacht Club and former member of the Suncoast Cruise Club, W.J. Power Squadron and Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was past President of the Hillsborough Community College Foundation, Inc., and a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, the American Legion and the Centro Asturiano. He was past President of the International Order of the Blue Gavel, an organization of past commodores from yacht clubs with 4,500 members from all over the world. A musician in his younger days, he performed for Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy while principal clarinetist with the U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants in Washington , D.C. He also performed with the Tampa Philharmonic and several other orchestra and dance bands, including his own. Survivors include his companion of many years, Barbara Jean Wilson; two daughters, Gina L. Valdes Foley and Melinda E. Valdes; and a granddaughter, Nancy Alexandr a Foley, all of St. Petersburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003 at Pass-A-Grille Community Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Frank J. She was named one of Tampa's best dressed women by the Tampa Women's Club first Fashionollia in 1947; she was appointed by the Florida governor to the Hillsborough County Welfare Board in 1953. Esther served as president of the Beta Opera Society; she was an active member of the Tampa Women's Club, the Davis Island Garden Club and the Tropical Garden Club. She was devoted to her faith and was a board member of the Tampa Jewish Social Services and a member of the Tampa section of the National Council of Jewish Wome n, Rodeph Sholom Sisterhood, and Congregation Rodeph Sholom where her family was among the founders. She was loved deeply by family and friends. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 2, 2003, 10:00 AM at Rodeph Sholom Cemetery. Rabbi Marc Sack and Cantor Moshe Friedler will officiate.
