WELLS, Selma V., 94, of Land O' Lakes, FL, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2003. She was born in Burlington, Vt. and moved to Land O' Lakes from Michigan in 1930. She was the owner of Wells Corner Grocery Store in Land O' Lakes from 1945 to 1981. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Land O' Lakes and a long time member of the Land O' Lakes Garden Club. She is survive d by one son, Donald Wells of Palmetto, Fla.; one daughter, Kay Faulconbridge of Missoula, Mont.; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Loyless Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. on Monday.

CRANFORD, Jennie Lee, of Dade City, passed away August 1, 2003 in Brooksville. She is survived by a son, Eric Cranford of Blackshear, Ga.; three daughters, Erica Cranford of Palm Harbor, Fla., Twyla Hall of Dade City, Fla., and Valerie Faulkner of Gadston, Ala.; a long-time companion of 25 years, Curtis Mize, and his son Curtis Aaron Mize, both of Dade City, Fla.; a brother, Troy Paul Varnes of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Lucille Stewart and Margurite Wells both of Tampa, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. Services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at the Cross Baptist Church, 9610 N. Annie, Tampa, Fla., with Rev. W.C. Kent officiating. Born December 11, 1952 in Tampa, Fla. to Troy and Pauline (Green) Varnes. She was a homemaker, and moved to Dade City 13 years ago from Tampa, and she was a Baptist.

CURRENS, Wilbur Clair, 88, of Zephyrhills died August 3, 2003 in Zephyrhills. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Currens of Zephyrhills; three children, James Michael (born 1942), Susan Clair (born 1944), Ronda Ann (born 1949); two granddaughters, Stacy Heaston Hakanson and Donna Heaston Ward; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Audra Hakanson. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 37015 Orange Valley Lane, Dade City, FL 33525. Mr. Currens was born November 22, 1914 in Nachusa Township, Lee County, Illinois to Harry B. and Nora Susan (Spangler) Currens. He was a graduate of Dixon High School (1932), Wheaton College (1936) and Chicago Lutheran Seminary (1940). On June 4, 1940 he was married to Ruth Reitan. He was ordained in May 1942 and was pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Warranville, Illinois until June 1943. He then became a Navy Chaplain in World War II until May 1946. In June 1946 he, together with his wife and two children, James and Susan, went to Liberia, West Africa as missionaries until May 1953. He took Clinical Pastoral Education, became a C PE supervisor and served with the Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota until August 1969. He then returned to Liberia and conducted the first CPE program in Africa with ten missionary and ten national pastors until 1971. He then became a chaplain at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois working in the department of out-patient psychiatry until his retirement in 1980. In 1987 he moved t o Zephyrhills, Florida. The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to the Board of World Missions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for use in the missions work in Liberia, West Africa.

JOHNSON, Patricia Ann, 64, of Center Hill, Fla. died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 in Dade City, Fla. She was born in Woonsocket, R.I. and moved to Central Florida in 1972 from Memphis, Tenn. She was a Registered Nurse and had retired from East Pasco Medical Center as the Night Supervisor R.N. She was Methodist. She is survived by her husband, Tommie Johnson of Center Hill; daughter, Kathleen Nix of St. Petersburg; two grandchildren, Justin Hauck of Center Hill and Heather Hauck of New York, N.Y.; and aunts, Ruth Croutear of North Smithfield, R.I. and Ethel Bailey of Woonsocket, R.I. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at Purcell Funeral Home Chapel, Bushnell and Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Purcell Funeral Home Chapel, Bushnell, with Rev. Marvin Strickland officiating. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

JOYSEY, William H., 65, of Spring Hill, died Aug. 3, 2003. Born in Detroit, Mich., he moved here four years ago from Ortonville, Mich. He was a mechanic of General Motors Co. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandra Joysey; three sons, Robert J. (Bob) Joysey, William T. Joysey, and Thomas D. Joysey, all of Waterford, Mich; one daughter, Kim A Goulet of Waterford, Mich; and four grandchildren, Dawn, David, Nicole and Billy.

LANDIS, William F., age 74, of Zephyrhills died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, August 2, 2003 after a three year struggle with throat cancer. He was born in Troy, Ohio, and came here in 1992 from Piqua, Ohio, where he retired as a foreman from the Piqua Minerals Division of the A K Steel Corporation. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Zephyrhills and a Korean War Army Veteran and a member of the Veterans Club of Sundance Mobile Home park. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen G.; a son, Mark and Cathy Landis of Warren, Mich.; a brother, Lee Landis of Middletown, Ohio; a sister, Lela Alexander of Piqua, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer and Janae Landis of Warren, Mich. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor A.C. Bryant officiating. Inurnment will be at the Miami Memorial Cemetery in Covington, Ohio.

PETERS, Anne A., 85, of Holiday, died August 2, 2003 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey. Born in Chicago, Ill., she moved here from Milwaukee, Wis. in 1977. She was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church in Holiday. She served as an Army Nurse in World War II and was active in the Ladies Guild of St. Vincent De Paul. She is survived by her son, Burnham Peters of New Port Richey; daughter, Kathleen Tos of New Port Richey; brother, George Pletzke of Holiday; sister, Marcella Frost of Holiday; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 5, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the North Meadowlawn Funeral Home in New Port Richey, (727) 849-9281, where a Rosary by the Ladies Guild will be said at 3 p.m. and a Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church in Holiday.

VAZQUEZ, Edelmiro O., Sr., 61, of New Port Richey, died August 3, 2003 at North Bay Hospital. Born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, Mr. Vazquez, came to the area two months ago from Boston, Mass. He was a painter for the City of Boston and a Roman Catholic. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Morales Vazquez of New Port Richey; seven sons, Richardo Martin, Orlando Martin, Edelmiro Vazquez, Jr., Ramiro Vazquez and Victor Morales, all of Boston, Mass., William Morales of New Port Richey and Rafael Morales of Puerto Rico; three daughters, Latoya Vazquez and Wanda Vazquez, both of Boston and Aida Morales of New Port Richey; 33 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 2-4 p.m and 6-8 p.m. at Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home, where a chapel service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Jairo Atehortua officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens in New Port Richey.

WEST, Charles Edward , 76, of New Port Richey, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003. He was born in Marion, Kentucky and moved to New Port Richey from Evansville, Ind. in 1989. He worked for Bucyrus-Eric Manufacturing, Evansville, Ind., a Navy Veteran of World War II, and a member of Calvary Temple Church of God, New Port Richey. Survivors include wife, Betty J. West; son, Russell West of New Port Richey; daughter, Linda Wagoner of New Port Richey; brothers, Dale West of Sebree, Ky. and Bobby West of Branson, Mo.; sister, Gale Sheppard of Cumberland, Ky.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Dobies Funeral Home. Graveside service Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

WOOD, William, M., age 80, of Holiday, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in Tarpon Springs. Born in Chicago, Ill., he moved to Florida in 1975 from Chicago., He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and in served in the Army Reserves, and a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Tarpon Springs. Mr. Wood was a retired Lieutenant with the Chicago Fire Department, and also Assistant Chief with Redington Beach Fire Dept., and Chief with City of Port Richey Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Norine Wood of Holiday; two sons, William and Michael of New Port Richey; two daughters, Catherine Jordan of Elmhurst, Ill. and Susan Beddow of Holiday; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Aug, 6, 2003 at 6 p.m. at North Meadowlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4244 Madison Street, New Port Richey.

ALONSO, Sylvia, age 65, a lifetime resident of Tampa died at her daughter's home on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 of breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her loving son, Gerald Alonso, Jr. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Michele Alonso; two sisters, Flora Chambers and husband Rex, and Dorian Hernandez and her husband Louis; one brother, Phillip Castellano and his wife JoAnn; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother and devoted teacher at JCC Preschool. As per her request in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Hospice of Fla. Suncoast, 300 E. Bay Dr., Largo, FL 33770.

BENTLEY, Kathryn Criswell, 100, a descendant of William Jennings Bryan, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Sabal Palms Health Care Center, Largo, Fla., following a fall in her home on June 20. Born Mary Catherine Criswell January 7, 1903, in Canton, Ohio, the only child of Bessie Amelia Parker Criswell and Vivant C. Criswell, in her early years she was reared in part by her maternal grandmother, Ardella Ann Bryan Parker, whom she called `Mammy.` `Mammy` Parker's father was the uncle of William Jennings Bryan. The Criswell family moved to Atlanta in 1911, where Kathryn was graduated from old Girls High School. She attended Wesleyan College. She and her late husband, J. Frank Bentley, Jr., moved to Tampa in 1956, soon followed by their sons, George Edward, now retired in Clearwater and Thomas Criswell, Sr. , Largo. She is also survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann Ackerman (Mrs. Neel B.) of Springfield, Ga., and 10 grandchildren and some 17 great-grandchildren. In deference to her beloved `Mammy` Parker, Kathryn was known to her grandand great-grandchildren as `Mammy.` The Bentley family invites you to a memorial service at 3 p.m., Tuesday (August 5) at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. BODDEN, Asquith D., 80 formerly of the Grand Cayman Islands passed away July 22, 2003 in Key Largo, Florida. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Willard and Tracey. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bodden; a son, Denny Bodden and his wife Sherrie and their children, Alyssa, Shenna, and Jessie. He is also survived by his sister, Mandy Lee Bush and brother, Rupert Bodden. Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 2 p.m., at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Pastor Buddy Payne of Bell Shoals Baptist Church will be officiating.

BRUNDAGE, Nona Mae Graves, 84, of Plant City passed away on August 2, 2003 in Brandon. She was born in Springhead and a life long resident of the Plant City area. She was a homemaker and a member of the Plant City Church of God. She was predeceased by her husbands, Jewell Graves and Russell Brundage, and daughter, Nona Jewel Roberts. She is survived by her son, Jerry `Buddy` Graves of Plant City; daughter, Barbara Graves Kersey of Plant City; son-in-law, I.V. Roberts. Also surviving, are her grandsons, Jewell Roberts of Ocala, Randy Johnson and Gary Geiger both of Plant City; granddaughters, Gayle Snyder of Riverview, Angie Harvey of Turkey Creek, Valarie Meredith of Plant City and Vicki Hamilton of Jacksonville; five great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. The family will receive friends on Tuesday August 5, 2003 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Haught Funeral Home. Services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Haught Funeral Home. CACCIATORE, Tomasita H., 80 passed away quietly in her home surrounded by her family and friends on Sunday, August 3, 2003. She was born in Tampa on April 20, 1923 and was a lifelong resident of Tampa and Plant City. She was retired from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office as a correctional officer. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph; two sons, Charles and wife Janet, James and wife Gail; two granddaughters, Desiree Winger and (Nick) and Tina Marie Hamm and (Paul); three great-grandchildren, Gage, Kalyn, and Carly; and her sister Florinda Huerta and numerous nieces, nephews and Cousins. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Garden of Memories Mausoleum Chapel. Family will gather at the mausoleum chapel for one hour prior to the service. CANNON, Lillian G. Anderson, 77, of Plant City, passed away on August 2, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Vernon E. Cannon; and a sister, Betty Jo Hooker. She was affectionately called `Sis` by her family and was a member of Cork Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in Hopewell Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Ron Burks officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Memorial Gardens. A native of Los Palacios, Pinar Del Rio, Cuba and resident of Tampa since 1969 coming from New Jersey, survivors include his daughter, Oneida Perez and husband, Segundo; grandchildren, Guillermo, Gerald and George Perez, Emily Bello and Elane and Evelyn Perez; and great-grandchildren, Alexis and Gabriela Bello and Alyssa, Jordan and Nicholas Perez, all of Tampa. Graveside services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at Garden of Memories. Everyone is to meet at the cemetery for the graveside services.

GRUBER, Colie, age 86, passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Newberry, S.C. He moved to Tampa, after serving 21 years in the US Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. In the Navy, he was aboard the USS Zane during the attack at Pearl Harbor; serving aboard for the war and other ships for the Korean Conflict. He served for 16 years as the president for the Zane Reunions. He was also affiliated with several other naval organizations. Colie was a member of the Masonic Fraternity for 63 years. His memberships included Holyrood Lodge F.& A.M. #257, and a life member of the Magnolia Lodge A.F.M. #355, Scottish Rite, Egypt Temple Shrine, Mystic Chapter #110 O.E.S., and Zendah Grotto. He was survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Willena; daughter and husband Patti and Mike Oldfield; son Jeffery; grandchildren, Dawn Siebold and Shawn Oldfield in Tampa; a brother Leroy in Clinton, S.C.; and a number of extended family members. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 7th at Wesley Memorial U.M.C. 6100 Memorial Hwy. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be given in his name to the Wesley Memorial Building Fund (813) 886-2536, the Masonic Home of Florida (727) 882-3499, or any other charitable organization.

HEINZERLING, Henry A., Jr., 76, of Seffner, went home to be with the Lord, under the care of LifePath Hospice, on August 3, 2003. Born in Asheville, N.C, he moved to this area in 1960. He was a Baptist, a Merchant Marine during World War II, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, as well as worked in furniture sales, real estate and apartment rentals. Al was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to LifePath Hospice. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Grace (Rocky); daughters, Barbara Burrell and Annette Plemmons; brother, George; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on August 6, 2003 at Hillsboro Memorial FH. conducted by Mr. Mark Argo.

HOWLAND, James W., Sr., 90, of Brooksville, died August 3, 2003 at his home. He is survived by his daughter, Janis Stephens of Marengo, Ill.

HURM, Leo J., 81, died August 1, 2003 in Ocala, Fla. Born in Rome, Ky., and a former resident of Sun City Center, Fla., he was a Catholic and a retired electronic technician for the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Nora; daughters, Toni Niemeyer and Melissa Boyce; sister, Irene Bierlein as well as several other friends and family. Visitation will be August 5, 2003 (today) at 1 p.m. with services to follow at 2 p.m., both at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home.

LAU, Elizabeth `Betty` of Tampa passed away August 2, 2003. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Guerin. She is survived by her husband Don; brother Dennis Amlaw of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She will be missed by her children, Dawn, Phil, Mary Jane, Kim and Paul and her twelve loving grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew, Ashton, Asli, Blair, Blake, Cameryn, Christopher, Cody, Kayla, Parker and Shelby. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 6, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at Blount and Curry Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Bill Wilson and Monsignor Laurence Higgins, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003 at St. Paul Catholic Church with entombment to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
