Ruby Weston Malloy, 91, went quietly and peacefully to be with the Lord Monday evening, June 23, 2003, at the Courtyard at the Millpond.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her love of her family, her church, and her friends.
Born in the Lovedale community on August 4, 1911, she lived most of her life in Jackson County, living in Panama City from 1955 to 1965. She was a long-time member of the Marianna First Baptist Church, having served in many leadership capacities. She was a former member of the Marianna Woman's Club and the Marianna Garden Club, and served many areas of leadership in the American Legion Auxiliary of Smith-Kelly Post 100.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, William Hershel Malloy; her son-in-law, Robert Crisp; her mother and father, Ella and Ira Weston; and all her brothers and sisters, Claude and Earl Weston, Viola Bruner and Edna Ulsh.
She is survived by Patricia Crisp of Marianna and Gloria and Mike Ross of Kathleen, Ga. Her grandchildren are Cynthia and Ernie Davis of London, England, Sonja and Walter Bennett of Vandiver, Ala., Tami and Kris Kuyk of Pelham, Ala., Michael and Frankie Ross of Kathleen, Ga., Kevin and Alicia Ross of Guyon, Ga. and Todd and Tracy Ross of Toccoa, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Robert, Matt and Amanda Davis, David and Daniel Kuyk, Allan, Taylor, Jacob, and Will Ross; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday morning, June 27, at Lord Funeral Home, 3449 Caverns Road in Marianna. The Revs. Michael Petty, Bill Henley and Todd Ross will be officiating. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memory Gardens.

Chaplain Byron Deflynn Long, 59, of 5418 Mount Tabor Road, entered that place of quiet, peaceful and eternal rest on Friday evening, June 20, 2003 at 8:20 p.m. in the Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System in Tuskegee, Ala.
He was born September 1, 1943 in Jackson County to the late Earl and Allie Long.
Chaplain Long's ministry began with his response to the divine call and ordination in April, 1968. He felt that it was for this purpose that he was born into this world because the call had always been upon him. He was ordained at the Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church by the late Rev. A. H. Parker and the late Rev. H. H. Wynn Sr.
Chaplain Long attended Union Grove High School in Greenwood and graduated from John M. Harlan High School in Chicago, Ill. He earned the associate of arts degree from Chipola Junior College and the bachelor of science degree in social welfare from Florida State University in Tallahassee. Continuing the pursuit of his educational goals, he earned the masters of arts in Theology from Boston University in Boston, Mass.
Chaplain Long joined the United States Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. He continued his military career in the United States Navy Reserve. He completed his Naval Officer Education for Chaplaincy at the Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and his Veterans Affairs Chaplain Training was completed at the Veterans Administration National Center for Excellence in Hampton, VA. He applied for and received a commission as chaplain in the United States Navy Reserve. His final rank as a Naval Officer was Captain (06). Some of his chaplain ministries included Senior Regional Naval Reserve Chaplain in the Southeast; The FBI Academy in Quantico, Va.; Manager of Pastoral Care for the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System; National Chaplain for the Naval Reserve Association and National Chaplain General for the Naval Order in the United States.
Chaplain Long's civil rights background included work at the King Center in Atlanta, Ga. During that time he served as administrative assistant to the director of the King Center and later as acting administrator of the King Center. After working with the King Center, he joined the staff of the United States Office Of Veterans Administration as Chaplain at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Florida and Alabama. He transferred to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tuskegee, Ala. where he served as the Chief of Chaplains from July 1, 1990 until June 2003.
Chaplain Long served as minister at churches in Alabama, Georgia and Florida and the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Boston, Mass. and interim pastor at the Greenwood Baptist Church in Tuskegee.
He is survived by his daughter, Bashia Leslie Long of Montgomery, Ala.; one brother, Refroe Earl Leslie Long and wife, Hannah of Greenwood; one niece, Nicole Long of Baltimore, Md.; one nephew, Earl Johnta Griffin of Baltimore, Md.; three aunts, Mrs. Pearl G. Long and Mrs. Mildred E. Long of Marianna, and Mrs. Rosemary Long of Las Vegas, Nev.
The funeral will be held on Friday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at the Second West Missionary Baptist Association Church at 4110 Herring Ave. with the Revs. Hayward Teague, Ernest Ferrell and Chaplain Glenn Busby officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery
with full military honors by the Unites States Naval Base of Pensacola and Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna directing.

Nancy C. Rivers, 61, of Marianna died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 in the Marianna Convalescent Center.
She was a lifelong resident of this area and was a Baptist by faith.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Shelton and her father, S.B. Calhoun Jr.
She is survived by her spouse, Jacks Rivers of Sneads; a son, Duane Hayes and his wife, Sandra of Cullman, Ala.; two daughters, Amanda Burgess of Greenwood and Susan Burgess of Marianna; two brothers, Ricky Arivett of Greenwood and Randy Arivett and his wife, Connie of Gadsden, Ala.; four beloved grandchildren; a loving friend, John W. Hayes; and aunt, Francis Gladden.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 29, at 4 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Glover officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation.
Irene Carter, 89, of Cottondale died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born in Black, Ala. on May 30, 1914. She was a homemaker and a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Benjamin Carter.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen Turner of Cottondale; brother, Huey Pullum of S.C.; two sisters, Audrey Carter of Cottondale and Mary Elois Davis of Ala.; four grandchildren, Barbara Turner, Glen Turner and his wife, Sherry, all of Pace, Linda Street of Cottondale, and Shiryl Fussell and her husband, Thomas of Lake City; and five great-grandchildren, Stephen Street, Alexis Street, Candice Turner, Kayla Fussell, and Chelsea Fussell.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 27, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Sandy officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery with James and Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing.

Vivian Pearl Fosha, 79, of Marianna died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at her residence.
She was a native of Woodriver, Ill. and had lived in Jackson County for a number of years. She was a homemaker. She had a sparkle in her eye and she was loved by everyone.
She is survived by her surrogate family; a brother, Glen Gordan Fosha of Sun City, Ariz.; one niece, Miralee Fosha of Addison, Texas ; and one nephew, Russell Fosha of Prescot, Ariz.

Ora L. Pittman, 95, of 3640 Bright Prospect Road in Marianna died Wednesday morning, June 25, 2003, in the Courtyard at the Millpond.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of the St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church.
She was owner and operator of The Riverside Cafe for more than 35 years.
She was much loved by her entire family.
She is survived by one daughter, Estella Johnson of Marianna; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 10 a.m. at the St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Carlton Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Orange Hill Cemetery
with Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna directing.
The body will lie at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
The family requests that there be no flowers and no food, please.
Paul Victor Franklin Jr., 88, of Marianna died Monday, June 30, 2003, in the Jackson Hospital.
The funeral will be held today, Wednesday, July 2, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Marianna with Pastor Michael Petty officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memory Gardens with Masonic graveside rites.

Judy Ann Baggett, 46, of Greenwood, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Southeast Medical Center. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her husband, Donald Roy Baggett of Greenwood; one son, Bob O'Neal Wynn Jr.; three daughters, Sandy Rena Coburn and husband Robert of Grand Ridge; Joy Marie Meredith and husband Joe Howard of Sneads; Tiffany Nichole Stephens of Grand Ridge; her parents, Lois and Frances Mitchell of Grand Ridge; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four sisters, Bea Brantley and husband Bruce of Grand Ridge; Ann Arnold and husband Chester of Eufaula, Ala., Hazel Ingram and husband Ray Dell of Jakin, Ga.,; Ollie Kimble and husband Perry of Marianna; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Donald Roger Mitchell. The funeral will be held at Lord Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, with the Revs. Ray Johnson and James Barwick officiating. Matthew James Pittman, 71, of Jacob City, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, in the Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala. He was a native of Jackson County, and was a member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Jacob City. He is survived by his wife, Lois Richardson Pittman of Jacob City; his mother, Mrs. Clyde Pittman of Jacob City; one sister, Mrs. Lena Malone of Jacob City; three brothers, Arthur Pittman and wife Lorene, Joe Pittman and wife Evelyn, and Wilie J. Pittman and wife Mildred, all of Jacob City; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, July 7, from 6-7 p.m. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. G.E. Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville.
Miron Lavon Bryan of Bascom, 67, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at his residence.
He was born in Elba, Ala., and moved to Bascom in 1947 where he was the owner and operator of Bryan's General Merchandise for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bascom for more than 50 years where he served as a deacon for more than 30 years. He was a town councilman for the town of Bascom for more than 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wes and Maurine Bryan of Bascom; one sister, Carolyn Hagan; and two brothers, William Bryan and Gary Bryan.
Survivors include: his wife, Ann M. Bryan of Bascom; one son, John K. Bryan and his wife, Chrystal, of Bascom; one daughter, Kristen B. Floyd and her husband, Scott, of Bascom; and two granddaughters, Morgan Lindsey Bryan and Allianne Olivia Bryan, of Bascom; two brothers, Waymer Bryan and his wife, Vesta, of Graceville, Billy Bryan and his wife, Janet, of Bascom; one sister-in-law, Helen Bryan of Bascom; one brother-in-law, Ray Hagan of Marianna; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 15, at 11 a.m. CDT at the First Baptist Church of Bascom with the Rev. Shelton Kindig, Rev. Greg Roberts and Rev. Johnnie Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.

George M. Anderson of the Alliance community, 74, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at his residence.
He was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of the Caverns Road Church of Christ of Marianna. He loved his family, home, church, fishing and people.
He enjoyed the Chipola River, fishing and river rocks, pottery and artifacts. He was very interested in family history.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Anderson, in 1996 and a brother, Bradie Anderson.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 53 years, Ruby Anderson of the Alliance community; two daughters, Patricia Hall and husband Donnie of the Alliance community, and Carol Stearn and husband Dub of Fort Walton Beach; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Anderson of the Alliance community; five grandchildren, Brandon Anderson, Justin Hall, Risa Stearn, Kari Anderson and Selena Stearn; and one brother, Willard L. Anderson and wife Betty of Lynn Haven.
The funeral will be held today, Sunday, July 13, at 2 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Ray Buchanan and Harry Darrow officiating.
