PETER P. OLEWNICKI, 80, of Holiday died Monday at James A. Haley Veterans Affairs Hospital in Tampa. A native of New York City, he moved to this area four years ago from Long Island, N.Y. He was retired from Phelps- Dodge Refinery in New York, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Holiday, the Knights of Columbus in New York and the Holy Name Society. He is survived by a niece, Mary J. Kessler of Holiday. Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home, Bartelt Road, Holiday.

EMMA J. SANDERS, 88, of New Port Richey died Sunday at Hospice House of Pasco. A native of Green Village, Pa., she moved to this area 40 years ago from Chambersburg, Pa. She was a retired waitress and member of the Eagles Auxiliary in New Port Richey. She is survived by two sons, Joseph of Chambersburg, Pa., and Clarence R. of New Port Richey; a daughter, Carlita J. Kiwple of New Port Richey; two brothers, Bruce and Joseph Eckenrode, both of Fayetteville, Pa.; a sister, Mary Jane Rife of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren. DONALD RAY SIMS, 58, of Seminole died Sunday at Columbia Largo Medical Center. A native of Hohenwald, Tenn., he moved to this area in 1981 from Hobart Township, Ind. He is survived by his wife, Sally; three sons, Donnie of Largo, Christopher of Seminole and Jason of Columbia, Tenn.; two daughters, Donna Arroyo of New Port Richey and Amy of Clearwater; two brothers, Kent of Valparaiso, Ind., and Jerry of Linden, Tenn.; four sisters, Jeanette Shanes and Diane Aaron, both of Hohenwald, and Inez Frazier and Peggy; and three grandchildren. ELSIE BEATRICE SMEAL, 92, of New Port Richey died Monday at Whispering Pines Nursing Center in New Port Richey. A native of Grassmere, Manitoba, she moved to this area 32 years ago from Lincoln Park, Mich. She was a member of Holiday United Methodist Church. She is survived by a stepson, Earl of Vandergrift, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Vonnie Leap of New Port Richey; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Morgan Funeral Home, New Port Richey.

FRANCES TAYLOR, 70, of Thonotosassa died Monday at Crystal Springs Nursing Home. A native of Independence, Mo., she moved to this area in 1943. She was a homemaker and member of Thonotosassa Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Jack W. of Wesley Chapel, Thomas A. of Jacksonville and Dennis F. of Tampa; a daughter, Charlotte E. DOROTHY M. WAGNER, 72, of Seminole died Thursday at Columbia University General Hospital. A native of Chicago, she moved to this area in 1973 from Naperville, Ill. She was a retired co-owner of Wagner Insurance Market in Largo, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Largo. She is survived by her husband, Raymond T.; three daughters, Linda Heaney of Brooksville, Lisa Kellogg of Pinellas Park and Carla Campbell of Tampa; a brother, James Fencil of Chicago; a sister, Louise Borkenhagen of Indian Head Park, Ill.; and a grandchild. KENNETH P. WEIR, 92, of Zephyrhills died Monday at East Pasco Medical Center. A native of Concord, Vt., he moved to this area 28 years ago from Westboro, Mass. He was a carpenter, Baptist and a member of the Moose Lodge #2276 in Zephyrhills. He is survived by his wife, Frances Hart; a son, Curtis of Westboro; two daughters, Roberta Goddard of Merrimack, N.H., and Shirley Gates of Cape Cod, Mass.; two stepdaughters, Louise Pellerin and Marion Baker, both of Zephyrhills; a brother, Richard; a sister, Marion Raymond of Clinton, Mass.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. JOHN L. WEISS, 83, of Zephyrhills died Saturday at East Pasco Medical Center. A native of Detroit, he moved to this area several years ago from Lansing, Mich. He was a driver for a linen company. GEORGE E. BLACKSHEAR JR., 70, of Thonotosassa died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital in Tampa. A native of Lakeland, he was a longtime resident of the area. He was a retired Tampa police captain, Navy veteran of World War II, member of VFW Post 424 and FOP. He is survived by his wife, Ruby S.; a son, George E. CHARLIE CREWS, 59, of Dundee died Sunday at home. A native of Bradford County, he came to Polk County in 1967. He was a citrus laborer and Baptist. JAMES HARVEY LOGAN, 80, of Davenport died Monday at West Jefferson Medical Center in New Orleans. A native of Imperial, Pa., he moved to this area in 1978 from New Kensington, Pa., where he was retired office manager for People's Gas Co. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Haines City, Osceola Shrine Club and Orange Blossom Masonic Lodge 80, both in Kissimmee, People's Gas Peony Club and Shrine Temple, both in Pittsburgh, and Tyrian Masonic Lodge 644, Dennis A. Reeser Royal Arch Masons 3 and Allegheny Shrine Club, all in New Kensington. ALFRED JOHN "JACK" STROUD, 64, of Lake Wales died Tuesday at Lake Wales Medical Centers Inc. Extended-Care Facility. A native of Sayre, Pa., he moved to this area in 1978 from Pontiac, Mich. He retired in 1989 as the original editor of the Avon Park News and formerly worked as managing editor of the Lake Wales Highlander and South Haven (Mich.) Daily Tribune, as an editor at the Oakland Press in Pontiac and as a reporter for the Sayre Evening Times. He was Episcopalian, an Army veteran of the Korean War and member of several community committees of Avon Park Chamber of Commerce and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Avon Park. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; a son, David of Lakeland; two daughters, Patricia Wait of Lake Wales and Theresa Arnold of Pontiac; a brother, Karl of Rochester, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. He was a research professor and plant pathologist for the University of Florida, member of Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, an Army veteran of World War II, a watermelon breeder, assistant professor at Iowa State University, director and research professor at the IFSA Agriculture Research Center in Leesburg, member of the Institute of Food and Agriculture at the University of Florida, president, vice president and member of board of directors of United Appeal in Leesburg and vice president of the Kiwanis.
