Graveside funeral services for Mr. Samuel E. Heisler, age 82, of 19618 Hwy. 231, Fountain, Fla., who died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 1, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with full military honors conducted by the Coastal Systems Station. Interment will follow. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are: members of the Pearl Harbor Survivor's Association and members of the Green Hills-Fountain Volunteer Fire Dept. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranch, Boy Ranch, FL 32064.

GOMER W. HUGHES SR.
Mr. Gomer W. Hughes Sr., 82, of Panama City Beach, Fla., died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 30, 1999, at his home. Born in Glassport, Penn., he moved here in 1981 from Glastonbury, Conn. He was a retired engineer and was a member of Gulf Beach Presbyterian Church where he was a church elder. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps and was a 32nd degree mason. Mr. Hughes is preceded in death by his mother and father, Margaret Morgan Williams and George W. Hughes; a nephew, Edwin "Rick" Gilmore Jr. and a sister, Elizabeth Larson. He is survived by his wife, Helen Hughes of Panama City Beach; one son, Gomer Hughes Jr. of East Hartford Conn.; one daughter, Marjorie Parker of Panama City Beach; one brother, George Hughes of Reno, Nev.; four sisters: Helen Gilmore of Panama City Beach, Alice Doering of La Habra Calif., Helene Hughes of Los Altos, Calif., and Evelyn Geraci Geraci of Santa Clara, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Elly Hughes of Marlborough, Conn.; nephews: Douglas Gilmore and wife Lorraine, Robert Gilmore and wife Arlene Zacher all of Panama City Beach; seven grandchildren: Michael Best, James Best, Kelly Battistini and husband Daniel, Steven Hughes and wife Christine, Jennifer Hughes, William Parker II; great-grandchildren: Karen Best, Amber Best, Nicholas Battistini, Danielle Battistini and Kalen Hughes. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. in Gulf Beach Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

BARBARA JUDITH CORRY JONES
Mrs. Barbara Judith Corry Jones, age 65, of 2617 Albert Ave., Panama City Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, in Prattville, Ala., as a result of an automobile accident. She had been a resident of the area for 33 years, coming here from Hawaii. Mrs. Jones was a retired school teacher with the Bay County School System. She was also a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Charles Robert Jones and a brother, Harold Corry. Mrs. Jones is survived by her loving family; a daughter, Angela Sullivan and her beloved and special son-in-law Ernie of Panama City Beach, Fla.; son, Bob Jones of Panama City Beach, Fla.; grandson, Robert E. Sullivan of Panama City Beach, Fla.; granddaughter, Judith Ann Sullivan of Panama City Beach, Fla.; sisters: Betty Jo Dabbs and her husband Fred of Hueytown, Ala., Jean Douglas and her husband Carl of Sylvan Springs, Ala., Joyce Smith and her husband Rod of Weddington, N.C., and Janet Corry Robinson of Panama City Beach, Fla.; brother, Franklin Corry and his wife Nell of Dublin, Ga.; and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Corry of Jasper, Ala. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Ball officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Dan Robinson, James Harold Corry, Chaz Mormile, David Dawson, Roy Minor, and Shane Naugher. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, today, Oct. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.

HATTIE MAE KNOX
Mrs. Hattie Mae Knox, 74, went home to join the Lord, Sept. 24, 1999. Mrs. Knox was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Cottonwood, Ala., to the late Monore and Martha Ward. She was baptized in faith at an early age in the New Bethel C.M.E. Church, Campbellton, Fla., and fervently continued in her faith until her death. On Oct. 16, 1945, she was united in marriage to the late Cartelas Knox Sr., who preceded her in death 11 months ago. From that union ten children were born three of which preceded her in death. Mrs. Knox family remembers her great love for her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, her godchildren and her unconditional love for all children and people in general. "Mama Hattie" as she was affectionately called by all, toiled untiringly for her family in every way. She was the backbone, matriarch, and glue that held the family together. She was a spiritual vessel for the Lord, and an example to her family and all who knew her. "Mama Hattie" was always full of joy and desired to let the world know that she lived for the Lord. Heaven is rejoicing in that her journey is over and she is at home. She leaves to cherish her memories; one son, Samuel (Ann) Knox of Lynn Haven, Fla.; six daughters: Bernice (Nathaniel) Smith, of Anchorage, Alaska, Mildred Coger, Gracie (Richard) Toms, both of Atlanta, Ga., Annette of Lynn Haven, Shirlean Jones (Eddie) of Panama City; Felisa (Joseph) Graves Jr., of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Louie (John) Mapp of Decatur, Ga.; one brother, George (Mary) Ward of Quincy, Fla.; a devoted daughter-in-law, Barbara Knox; a devoted niece, Kay Ward of Tallahassee; and nephew, Doston Knox of Panama City; two adopted daughters: Denise Mincy and Linda Rouhlac; twenty seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and many devoted friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Knox will be Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. in Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. O.C. Williams officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery in Campbellton, Fla. Visitation will be today, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gainer Family Funeral Home.

GERALD MILTON 'JERRY' MILLER
Mr. Gerald Milton "Jerry" Miller, age 52, of 906 Arkansas Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area since 1970, coming here from Ocean Springs, Miss., and was Protestant by faith. Mr. Miller served his country in the U. S. Navy and was a marine mechanic for the Lighthouse Marina. He is survived by his wife, Karen Miller of Lynn Haven, Fla.; mother, Mary W. Miller of Ocean Springs, Miss.; children: Tony Miller of Ocean Springs, Miss., Michael Miller and his wife Lisa of Mobile, Ala., Donald Miller and his wife Anita and Tina Lamonica and her husband Mike, all of Panama City, Fla., and Denise Pierson and her husband Steve of Montgomery, Ala.; step-sons: Carroll Trivett Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Panama City, Fla., Craig Trivett of England, and Clay Trivett of Panama City, Fla.; brothers: Joe Miller and his wife Janet and Bill Miller and his wife Brenda, all of Ocean Springs, Miss.; sisters: Rose Marie Vail and her husband Herschel and Ann Miller, all of Ocean Springs, Miss.; and eight grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Saturday, Oct. 2, from 4 to 6 p.m.

ANNIE REE FARRIOR 'KID' WHITEHURST
Mrs. Annie Ree Farrior "Kid" Whitehurst, 86, of 1808 E. 7th St. died Thursday Sept. 23, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a native of Pike County, Ala., and a resident of Panama City for many years. She was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where, at the time of her passing, she was the senior most member in terms of membership, longevity and age. Some of the areas of her services at New Bethel have been secretary of Sunday School, president of senior choir, teacher of card class and president of the Pulpit Aid Club. She was a member of Queen Ester Wise Chapter No. 25 where she had given services as recording secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Whitehurst. He departed this life Sept. 5, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Murphy (Glover) of Miami; grandchildren: Dionna and Sylvonna; great-grandchildren: Ledarius, Imani and Devin all of Miami; a sister, Lydia "Queen" Wheeler of Montgomery, Ala.; a devoted niece, Dorothy M. Bates of Cleveland, Ohio; sister-in-law, Lelar Davenport of Brundidge, Ala.; goddaughters, Gloria D. Beaman and Grace Mosley; dear friends: Versie Henry, Willie M. Bolware, Annie M. Brown and Betty Wiggins; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Whitehurst will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. in New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Temolia Youngblood officiating. Interment to follow in Redwood Cemetery. A wake service will be held at the church this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. and will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time. The family will receive relatives and friends at 1808 E. 7th St.

Mr. Frank Collins, 59, of 228 Williamsburg Road, Wewahitchka, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999 at his home. He was a native of Calhoun County, Fla., but had been a longtime resident of Wewahitchka. Graveside services for Mr. Collins will be held today, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. in Williamsburg Cemetery in Wewahitchka with the Rev. Joseph Foster officiating. Interment will follow.

Mr. Thomas R. Davis, 52, of Panama City, died Friday morning, Oct. 1, 1999 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of this area and was a lock operator with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was also Methodist by faith. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Newberry officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Mr. Thomas M. Garcia, CMSGT, U.S.A.F. (retired), 74, of Panama City, Fla., will be held today at 10 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church with Father Martin Bratek, C.R. presiding. Mr. Garcia will be laid to rest on Monday, Oct. 4, 1999 in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
