ALEX PALMAN KING
Mr. Alex Palman King, age 66, of 182 Comet Ave., Callaway, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999 doing what he loved doing best - mullet fishing. He had been a lifelong resident of the area. Mr. King retired in 1993 from Stone Container. He was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church and a member of the Quarter Century Society Inc. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. Mr. King served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Jackie S. King of Callaway, Fla.; sons: Timothy D. King and his wife Linda and Paul D. King and his wife Debbie, all of Parker, Fla., and Joel F. King and his wife Pam of Callaway, Fla.; a sister, Leanna Wagnerman and her husband Johnny of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a brother, Phillip King of Millville, Fla.; and grandchildren: Michael King, Christopher King, Kristen King, Ashley M. King, Brooke N. King, Tyler P. King and Miles King. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Oct. 30, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Melvin officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Mike Raney, David McMullon, Gus Wise, Keith Marshall, Joey Broxson, Bobby Hill, Jimmy Hill and Ronnie Hill. Honorary pallbearers will include: Sid Barfield, Harold Ethridge, Bert Gwaltney, Al Moore, J.L. Clanton, Ray Warren, Joe Taylor and Chester Fletcher and all past and present employees of the lab at Stone Container. The family received friends at the funeral home Friday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.

CHARLES D. KING SR.
Charles D. King Sr., of Panama City Beach, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999 at his home. He had been a resident of this area since 1978. He was born in Elbridge, Tenn., on March 15, 1920. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He served his country as an Air Force pilot in World War II and the Korean War. He was a highly decorated liutenant colonel. He was awarded the Air Medal and two Distinguished Flying Crosses with Oak Leaf Clusters. He was the former owner of King Funeral Home in Obion, Tenn. He was past president of the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association, a representative in the Tennessee State Legislature, and held many other honors. He was a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class. Mr. King is survived by his wife, Martha Allen King of Panama City Beach; his daughter, Pamela Heidenreich of Tulsa, Okla.; his son, David King of Panama City Beach; two grandsons: Mike Avison of Morristown, Tenn., Shane Avison of Sevierville, Tenn.; one great-granddaughter, Shana Avison of Sevierville, Tenn.; one sister, Dorothy Hamilton of Fargo, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellie and Talmage King, and his brother, Harvey King. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999 at 4 p.m. at Woodlawn Methodist Church, 213 Carolyn Ave., Panama City Beach, with the Rev. Ron Ball officiating. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the American Cancer Society in memory of Charles King Sr.

Mrs. Annie Louise Knight, 73, of 818 Mercedes Ave., died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999 in a local nursing facility. Funeral services for Mrs. Knight will be held today, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. in Greater Bethel AME Church with the Rev. O.C. Williams, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at their residence, 818 Mercedes Ave.

MARGARET CRAWFORD BLACKMAN
Margaret Crawford Blackman, 88, of Inlet Beach, Fla., formerly of Dothan, Ala., died Saturday morning Oct. 30, 1999 at the home of her daughter, Lucy Summers, 45 Holly Leaf Lane, Inlet Beach, Fla., after an extended illness. Mrs. Blackman was a native of Dothan, Ala., the daughter of the late Thomas Clarence Crawford and Ella Griffin Crawford. She lived most of her lifetime in Dothan before moving to Inlet Beach in 1991. She was a graduate of the Newton Baptist Collegiate Institute and Troy Normal College. Blackman was a lifetime member of the American Federation of the Blind and a former member of the Southeast Alabama Chapter of the Blind. She formerly owned and operated Blackman's Service Station in Dothan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Anthony Blackman. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 2, 1999 in the Selma Baptist Church in Dothan with the Rev. Thaxton Whiddon and the Rev. Robert Grice officiating. Burial will follow in the Dothan City Cemetery with Holman-Headland Mortuary directing. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight in the fellowship hall of the First Assembly of God Church, Back Beach Parkway, Panama City Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Church Building Fund, 17829 Back Beach Parkway, Panama City Beach, FL 32413.

WALTER HUBERT BRANDENBURG
Mr. Walter Hubert Brandenburg, 78, of 305 Red Bird St., Lynn Haven, died Friday Oct. 29, 1999 at a local nursing home. He had been a resident of the area since 1991, after moving here from Trainer, Pa., and was Lutheran by faith. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Brandenburg was a retired Merchant Marine Engineer. He was the chief engineer of Maritime Service for Keytone Shipping Co. in Philadaelphia, Pa., and had also worked for Sun Oil Co. He worked in the shipping industry for a total of 34 years. He was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and M.E.B.A. He is survived by his wife, Millie Brandenburg of Lynn Haven; a daughter, Joyce M. Vignaux of Lynn Haven; a son, Richard B. Roehm of Marcus Hook, Pa.; sisters: Emma Brandenburg, Freida Yates and Annette Moore, all of Vincennes, Ind.; grandsons: Mark W. Vignaux and his wife Lissette of Panama City, Theodore J. Vignaux of Key West, Fla., Branden R. Roehm of Marcus Hook, Pa., and Brice W. Roehm of Marcus Hook, Pa.; a granddaughter, Denise L. Cantlay of Frisco, Texas ; and great-grandchildren: Edward Lowe, Courtney Wagoner, Frederick Reddock, Ryan Reddock, Shannon Cantlay and Branden Roehm. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday Nov. 1, 1999 at Garden of Memories Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Meyer officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday Oct. 31, 1999 from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Alzheimer's Support Group, P.O. Mrs. Mary Ellen Bryant, 77, of Blountstown, died Thursday night, Oct. 28, 1999 at the Landmark Health and Rehab Center in Blountstown. Mrs. Bryant had lived in Blountstown for most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Gateway Baptist Church in Blountstown. Bryant was preceded in death by her daughter Linda "Penny" Wright. She is survived by daughter, Frances Graham of Pt. St. Joe; brother, Woodrow Aultman of Blountstown; sister, Ruby Crisson of Long Key, Fla.; five grandchildren: Waylan Graham of Panama City, Dianne and James Mock of Port St. Joe, Troy Wright of Lamar, Colo., Cindy Wright of Lamar, Colo., and Jamie Wright of Lamar, Colo.; three great-grandchildren: Jessica Mock of Port St. Joe, Jacob Wright of Lamar, Colo., and Shaylyn Wright of Lamar, Colo. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. CST at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Tim Bailey officiating. Internment will follow in the Nettle Ridge Cemetery in Blountstown. WILLIAM M. COWAN
Lt. Col. William M. Cowan, retired, U.S.A.F. of 638 Driftwood Drive, Lynn Haven, died Thursday Oct. 28, 1999 at his home. He had been a resident of the area since 1972 after coming here from Colorado Springs, Colo. He was Espicopalian by faith and served his country in the Air Force during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. Mr. Cowan was the past president of A.F.A., a Paul Harris Fellow in the Lynn Haven Rotary and past president, and former chief ground school instructor at Sowell Aviation. He is survived by his wife, John Ella Grigsby Cowan of Lynn Haven; his daughters, Patricia A. Yarbrough and Mary Hill van der Laan, both of Lynn Haven; two sisters, Mary Hill Warner and Hanah Weedon, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren: Kenney Wallace, William Yarbrough, Brian Yarbrough, Kris Van der Laan, Rachael Yarbrough and Lyndsey Van der Laan; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Bill Hunter officiating. Full military honors conducted by Tyndall Air Force Base. Mr. John Harmon, 68, of the St. Joseph Community in Chipley, passed away Thursday night, Oct. 28, at the residence of his daughter in Callaway. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph A.M.E. Church Chipley with the Rev. Claudia King and the Rev. Jeffrey Mills officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home, directing. The remains will lie in state at the church from noon today until time for the services at 2 p.m.

JAMES DOUGLAS 'POP' JOHNSTON
James Douglas "Pop" Johnston, 90, of Panama City, died Thursday Oct. 28, 1999 in a local nursing home. He was born in Barbour County, Ala. on Dec. 22, 1908. Johnston was a truck driver by vocation, living in various places in Alabama until he moved to Panama City in 1960. He then drove for McKenzie Tank Lines until he retired. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Hettie R. Johnston. He is survived by one son, Ed Johnston of Panama City; and three daughters: Emily Warnberg and her husband, Harry, of Lynn Haven, India Belisle and her husband, Albert (Buddy) of Panama City, and Paula Jane Pettit and her husband, Stan of Richburg, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Eloise Johnston of Dothan, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two nephews and one niece. Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 31, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Lewis Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers are Dutch Tieman, Tony Crittendon, Sid Singley, Bill Hall, Andy Amann and Richard Coiner. Honorary pallbearers are Preston Skinner, Barney Stanley, Art Butler, Arnold Winslett, Tom Coffey, Joe Hewett, Carl Woodall, the Billy Kirkland Sunday School Class and the Steadfast Sunday School Class. Contributions can be made to Northside Baptist Church or the St. Andrew Bay Center in memory of James (Pop) Johnston.
