Mr. Carl R. Hopper Sr., 62, of St. Joe Beach, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, in Port St. Joe. A native of Detroit, Mich., he has been a resident here for the past 23 years. He worked for St. Joe Natural Gas Co. and later for the City of Mexico Beach. He also served as chief of the Mexico Beach Volunteer Fire Dept. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hopper of St. Joe Beach; his children: Carl Hopper and wife Lynn of Jonesboro, La., Chuck Hopper and wife Jewell of St. Joe Beach, Scott Hopper and wife Sherry of Port St. Joe, Tim Hopper of St. Joe Beach, Christine Quintanilla and husband Victor of Port St. Joe, and Jodie Hopper and Shaun Thomason of St. Joe Beach; 14 grandchildren; three brothers: Al Hopper, Ricky Hopper both of Nevada, and Walter Gleeson of Alaska; one sister, Carol Francis of Kentucky; and a brother-in-law, Ray Cartwright and wife Joyce of Tampa. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EST today, Dec. 11, at the graveside in Holy Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. A. O. Boyette. Interment will follow.

DOROTHY LUVERNE HURSTON
Dorothy Luverne Hurston, 81, of 305 Mercedes Ave., Panama City, died December 9, 1999 in her home. She was a retired secretary and bookkeeper for Grace Presbyterian Church. She had been a resident of Bay County since 1945. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sons, Carl David Hurston of Panama City, Steve Hurston and his wife Jia Newcombe of London, England; daughter, Regina Ann Milsaps and her husband Ken of Lakewood, Ohio; three grandchildren: Charles Milsaps, Beverly Milsaps Torrence and her husband Timothy and Robert Newcombe; and two great-grandchildren: Amanda Torrence and David Torrence. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Grace Presbyterian Church with the Dr. Hal Jensen officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Grace Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund for new hymnals, 1415 Airport Road, Panama City, Fla., 32405 in memory of Dorothy Luverne Hurston.

SARAH LUCY 'SALLIE' KERR
Mrs. Sarah Luch "Sallie" Kerr, 70, of Beacon Hill, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999 in a local nursing home. Born in Booneville, Miss., she moved here in 1970 from Huntsville, Ala. She was a retired teacher and was Methodist by faith. She graduated from Deshler High School in 1947, was a graduate of Florence State Teachers College in 1951 and married Otto Kerr Jr. in 1951. She began her teaching career in Huntsville, Ala., in 1964. She received her masters degree from Florence State College in 1968 and taught at S.H. Butler High School from 1968 to 1993. Upon her retirement she became a permanent resident of Beacon Hill. Mrs. Kerr is survived by one son, David Hoyle Kerr of Beacon Hill, Fla.; two grandchildren, Heather Dorothea Kerr and Amanda Leigh Kerr both of Melbourne, Fla. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. CST and 2 p.m. EST on Sunday, Dec. 12, at Beacon Hill on the beach in front of the Massengill Home.

KIT CARSON MASHBURN
Kit Carson Mashburn Sr., 69, of Port. St. Joe, Fla., went to be with our Lord on Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at his home. He was born in Southport, Fla., on Nov. 21, 1930, and has resided in Gulf County since 1932. While serving in the Army from 1948 to 1951, he was stationed in Korea and Japan. After leaving the Army he was employed by St. Joe Paper Co. and remained there until he retired in 1996 after 43 years of service. He was a member of United Paper Workers Local Union No. 379, and a member of V.F.W. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is remembered by his family and friends as being a loving and charitable person who always wanted to help those in need. Survivors include his wife, Helen; his sister, Estelle Marshall and husband Max of Panama City; two sons: Jerry Mashburn of Panama City, Kit Mashburn and wife Debbie of Apalachicola; two daughters, Pat Warfield and husband Tom of Panama City, Fla., and Teresa Nunnery of Panama City and their mother, Agnes Peavy of Panama City, Fla.; eight stepchildren: Billy Roberts, Sandy Roberts, Wanda Powell, Danny Roberts, Albert Roberts, Jimmy Roberts, all of Panama City, Martha Brock and husband Pat of Georgia and Alice Bigler and husband Doug of North Carolina; a special stepson that he raised, Sean Dowis and wife Ruby of Panama City; nine grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three step-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. EST Sunday, Dec. 12, at Oak Grove Assembly of God Church in Port St. Joe with the Rev. David Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow at Mashburn Cemetery in Youngstown, Fla. The family will receive friends at Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe today, Dec. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. EST.

CHARLES A. MONTGOMERY
Charles A. Montgomery, 85, of Panama City, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999 in Panama City. A native and former resident of Apalachicola, Mr. Montgomery had lived in Panama City for the past 50 years. He was retired from the United States Air Force. He served his country during World War II and the Korean War, and was also awarded several citations for outstanding service during his military career. He was a member of the Crash Boat Crews for the U.S.A.F., and was Catholic by faith. He is survived by two sons, Mark Alan Montgomery of Panama City and Charles A. Montgomery Jr. of Arlington, Texas ; two daughters, Dena Burch of Panama City and Charlene Thibodau of Southport; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends at Kelley Funeral Home in Apalachicola today, Dec. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m. C.S.T. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m. C.S.T. at Kelley Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola.

JEANNE SCHANBACK
Jeanne Schanback, 76, of Mexico Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999 in her home. She had been a resident of Bay County for 20 years. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupa Catholic Church of Mexico Beach. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bubba McKelvin. Mrs. Schanback is survived by her husband of 55 years, George S. Schanback of Mexico Beach; three sons: George (Steve) Schanback of Seattle, Wash., James C. Schanback of Poway, Calif., Mark A. Schanback of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters: Bobbie Miller of Mexico Beach, Mary Jo Bumstead of Davis, Calif., Betty Ann Torrey of Bangor, Maine, 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupa Catholic Church of Mexico Beach at a later date with interment to follow in the Fort Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Fla. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 3 to 6 p.m. CST. Those desiring to may make a contribution to Our Lady of Guadalupa Catholic Church of Mexico Beach Altar Society in memory of Jeanne Schanback.

MR. AND MRS. CARROLL C. AND MELBA J. WILLIAMS
Mr. and Mrs. Carroll C. and Melba J. Williams, married for 43 years, died together on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999. Carroll and Melba had been residents of Bay County since 1973, moving here from Colorado Springs, Colo., after Carroll's retirement from the Air Force. They had spent their retirement years together as entrepreneurs involved in many different businesses in the area, including a restaurant, a motel, and a taxi company. Melba was a smart businesswoman, a homemaker, and a loving mother and grandmother. She attended Auburn University. Carroll was a retired master nergeant in the U.S. Air Force and served his country for 26 years during the World War II, Korean, and Vietnam eras. He always had a joke to tell, but always taught his sons to be men of integrity. Carroll and Melba were members of Central Baptist Church. Together they are survived by sons Greg Williams and his wife Tammy of Parker, Fla., Bruce Williams and his wife Lisa of Lynn Haven, Fla.; grandchildren: Corinne Williams, Chelsey Williams, Nathan Williams, Christopher Hobden, Matthew Hobden and Ashley Meyers. Carroll is also survived by brothers Hubert Williams and his wife Edna of Marianna, Fla., Charles Williams and his wife Barbara of Bradenton, Fla.; sisters, Myrl Moody and her husband David of Springfield, Fla., and Marie Burgess and her husband Jack of Norfolk, Va. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Florida Ethel Williams. Melba is survived by brothers Charles Shipp and his wife Barbara of Atlanta, Ga., Calvin Shipp and his wife Geraldine of Roanoke, Ala., and a sister, Allene Bennett and her husband Cary also of Roanoke, Ala. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas 'Tan' and Jessie Horton Shipp. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Richard White officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors accorded by Tyndall Air Force Base Honor Guard. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Troy Campbell, Mike Mettille, Jimmy Lee, Dave Smith, Ron Smith, Shorty Stavenaw, Nathan Williams, Matthew Hobden and Chris Hobden. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999.

Mrs. Ruby Mae Day Allen, 87, of 1413 Drake Ave., Panama City, partner of Allen's Seafood Restaurant, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at Jackson Hospital in Marianna. Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Allen are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.

MR. ROSCOE A. DUKE
Mr. Roscoe A. Duke, 79, of Brights Landing, Wewahitchka, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999 in a local hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Duke had been a resident of the area since 1953 and was a retired school bus driver with the Bay County School Board. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Duke is survived by one daughter Diane Duke of Panama City; one son Allen Duke of Port St. Joe; one sister Christine Wolfe of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandchildren, Nikki Duke and Jennifer Duke; one great-grandchild Tyler Watkins and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Duke was preceded in death by his wife Lavaughn Duke, a daughter Cathy Evvone Duke, and his parents Edwin and Billie Reynolds Duke. Funeral service for Mr. Duke will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Melvin officiating. Interment will follow in Callaway Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 until 6 p.m. today, Dec 12. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Ron Flanders, Tony Taylor, Bobby Renfroe, Elton Hall, Lane Fowler, Ruben Lowery and Jerry Frye Jr. Honorary pallbearers are: Bubba Harvey, Alton Lambert, Jerry Stucco, Dick Thurlow, Jim Faircloth and members of the Gulf County Senior Citizens Association and the Gulf County Sheriff's Department. The family will be staying at the home of Diane Duke, 7425 Gilbert Road, Panama City, FL.

MR. NOEL R. "ABE" DUMOND JR.
Mr. Noel R. "Abe" Dumond Jr., 72, of 2201 W. 21st St., Panama City, died Friday, Dec. 10,1999, in a local hospital. Mr. Dumond had been a resident of the area for the past 35 years, coming from Sanford. He had served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired after 35 years of service. He was Protestant by faith. Mr. Dumond is survived by his wife of 45 years Betty Dumond of Panama City; one sister Val Horbath and her husband Alex of Perry, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Ann Young and Carrie Lou Tillman, both of Sims, Ala.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service for Mr. Dumond will be 2 p.m. today Dec. 12, in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Entombment will follow.
