Mrs. Rosa Nell Phillips, age 73, of 3710 E. Hwy. 390, Panama City, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999 at a local hospital. She has been a resident of the area since 1947, coming here from Barbour Co., Ala. Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Hiland Park Baptist Church and a member of the Bay Medical Center Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James H. Phillips of Panama City, Fla.; daughter, Sherra Withers and her husband Gary of Southport, Fla.; sons: Steve Phillips and his wife Elaine "Tiny" of Bayou George, Fla., and John Anthony of Panama City, Fla.; a brother, Bobby Cochran of Sara Land, Ala.; sisters: Sara Strickland of Montgomery, Ala., Aline Bowman of Ozark, Ala., and Evelyn Hatcher of Pinckard, Ala.; grandsons: James Jared Phillips, Tyson Withers and Derick Phillips; granddaughter, Kimberly Lyn Phillips; great-grandson, L.J. Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today, Dec. 18, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Pickerill officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Tyson Withers, Derick Phillips, Jared Phillips, Cliff West, George Arnold and Kenneth Hottinger.

NANCY VICTORIA PIPPIN
Mrs. Nancy Victoria Pippin, age 86, of 322 Bayou Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 17, at a local hospital. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was Pentecostal by faith. Mrs. Pippin is survived by her sons: Ernest J. Sapp of High Springs, Fla., Clessie E. Worley of Greenwood, Fla., Donnie R. Worley, Roy C. Worley, and Buford L. Pippin Sr., all of Panama City, Fla.; daughters: Margie O. Smith of Wewahitchka, Fla., Mamie V. Snipes of Rosman, N.C., and Nancy J. Barreras of Mattawa, Wash.; sisters: Willie Mae Slay of Chipley, Fla,. and Ester Cummings of Abbeville, Ala.; 33 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde B. Pippin and a son, Floyd L. Sapp Jr. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Brogdon officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asksed to serve as active pallbearers are: Donnie White, Buddy Powell, Kevin Sullivan, Descel Eldridge, Jimmy Kemp and Ray Love. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Dec. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will be staying at 322 Bayou Ave., Panama City, Fla.

NATHAN BERT WOOD
Mr. Nathan Bert Woods, "Captain Woody," age 78, of 547 E. Fifth St., Panama City, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999 at a local hospital. He has been a resident of the area for 30 years, coming here from Pensacola, Fla. Mr. Woods served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Wood was also the charter boat captain of the Miss Nell and a member of the Springfield Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Lanelle "Nell" Woods of Panama City, Fla.; daughters: Tommi Nell Vaughan and her husband Don, Mary Frances Best, and Betty Jo Barfield, all of Panama City, Fla.; a son, Mark Alan Woods and his wife Rita of Panama City, Fla.; son-in-law, Larry Brand of Panama City, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Nan Woods of West Palm Beach, Fla.; brothers and sisters: Jessie Mildred Sillman, Viola Mae Easterling, Samuel Thomas Woods, Blanche Louise Ramsey, Doris Ruth Gandy, Paul Steven Woods and Eunice Elizabeth Bullock; grandchildren: Michael Vaughan, Debbie Pickle, Lori Vaughan, Natasha Vaughan, Paul Best, Jason Best, Sylvia Poppell, Raymond Barfield, Eric Woods, Melissa Henley, Bert Brand, Angie Porter, Charlotte McClain and Doug Brand; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Woods was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Diane Brand, and a son, Stephen Bert Woods. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Everage officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors conducted by Tyndall Air Force Base. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Doug Brand, Paul Best, Jason Best, Raymond Barfield, Eric Woods and Mike Vaughan. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Sunday, Dec. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff and doctors at Bay Medical Center and Gulf Coast Medical Center.

ELEANOR 'ELLIE' R. CONLEY
Eleanor "Ellie" R. Conley, 54, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 16, 1999, at her home in Wewahitchka. She was a native of Boston, Mass., and had been a resident of Wewahitchka since 1972. She was the daughter of Edward and Evelyn Cousins of Massachusetts. She was a health care worker for 30 years. She is survived by her husband H.C. Conley; four children: Tommy and Susie of Jacksonville and Hank and Josh of Wewahitchka; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. CST today, Dec. 19, at First Baptist Church of Wewahitchka, conducted by the Rev. Mike Stroud. Interment will follow in the family plot in Jehu Cemetery.

ERNEST CREEL
Mr. Ernest Creel, 86, of Cocoa died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Wuesthoff Hospital. He came from Haines City, to Brevard County in 1998. Mr. Creel retired as a heavy equipment operator in 1976 and many years ago was a commercial fisherman on Lake Okeechokbee, where he grew up. He was also a member of the Northwest Baptist Church in Cocoa. Mr. Creel is survived by his son, James Edison Creel of Chipley; a daughter, Elva Creel Gilbert of Cocoa; a sister, Eddie Creel Clements of Mt. Dora; three granddaughters; one grandson; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Versie Creel, mother, Ammie Arnold Creel, wife, Edna Kent Creel and a sister, Edris Creel Douglas. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today, Dec. 19, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with his son-in-law, the Rev. Johnny Gilbert, officiating. Interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Jackson County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Dec. 19, from 1 to 2 p.m., an hour prior to service time. KENNETH RAY DAY SR.
Mr. Kenneth Ray Day Sr., 66, of Lynn Haven, died Saturday morning, Dec. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. Born in Dadeville, Ala., he moved to this area in 1949 from Pensacola. He was an outstanding teacher at Bay High School where he taught mathematics and computer science. He was employed by Bay County School Board for 38 years and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven. Mr. Day was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served as a master sergeant in the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife Mary Eleanor Day of Lynn Haven; three sons: Kenneth R. Day Jr. and wife Nancy of Phenix City, Ala., David Christian Day of Lynn Haven and Robert Arnold Day and wife Susan of Dublin, Ga.; a sister Jenelle Day Pledger of Lynn Haven; and five grandchildren: Ellie Day, William Day, Jeffrey Day, Dallas Day and Kenneth Lawrence Day. Funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Fred Keith officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

DAVID L. GAINER SR.
David L. Gainer Sr. was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Chipley. He was the eldest son of the late Moody and Velma Gainer. He moved to Panama City at an early age. He enjoyed fishing and walking, his favorite pastimes. He will be greatly missed. He was joined in marriage to Mary Lou Campbell. From this marriage came five children: son, David L. Gainer Jr. (Jean) of El Paso, Texas ; four daughters: Shirley Gainer, Velma Shazier (Arthur), Sonja Gainer and Donna Gainer-Smith (Keith), all of Panama City; one step-son, Tommy Daniels (Eva) of Cleveland, Ohio; four daughters: Angela Whittaker, Alyce Stevenson, Brenda Holmes and Dorothy Stevenson, all of Panama City; six sons: Schwartz Gainer, Jerome Stevenson, Titus Stevenson, Jeffrey Stevenson, Vance Stevenson and Wayne Stevenson, all of Panama City; two brothers, Henry Gainer (Dorothy) and Johnny Gainer (Mattie), both of Panama City; two sisters, Dolores Green and Della Glenn, both of Panama City; one sister-in-law, Eunice Campbell of St. Petersburg; two brothers-in-law, Ben Campbell (Neffie) of Panama City and Willie Campbell (Lucille) of Atlanta, Ga.; 32 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services for Mr. Gainer will be held Monday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Woodrow Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be today at Gainer Family Funeral Home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services.

CLARENCE A. GRAHAM
Clarence A. Graham Jr., 75, of Panama City, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at National Healthcare Center. A retired swimming pool contractor, he was a 20-year resident of Panama City. He is survived by his wife Betty C. Graham, and children: Linda G. Roberson, Clarence A. Graham III and George D. Hinds.

Funeral service for John Frank Hughes, 69, of Panama City, will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, graveside at Esto Cemetery with Masonic rites. R.W. Wayne Marsh will officiate with Sims Funeral Home directing. Mr. Hughes passed away Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Bay Medical Center. He is survived by two brothers, Leonard Hughes of Hartford, Ala., and James H. Hughes of Suffolk, Va.; four nephews: Ray Reynolds of San Francisco, Calif., Paul Hughes of Tampa, and Ronnie and Bobby Joiner, both of Esto; and two nieces, Karen and Debbie Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a member of Bethlehem Masonic Lodge No. 276. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

KATHRYN COCKE MIXSON
Kathryn Cocke Mixson, 74, of Panama City died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, after a lengthy illness. Born in Tampa, she grew up in Savannah, Ga., and worked as an administrative assistant through the years for Prudential Insurance and the U.S. Army and Navy. She moved to Panama City in 1952 and was a member of First Baptist Church, the Panama City Women's Club, Beta Sigma Phi, the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a long-time volunteer at Bay Medical Center. She is survived by her husband Ray H. Mixson Jr. of Panama City; two sons, Robert Mixson and his wife Vicky of Orlando, and Gregory Mixson and his wife Sandy of Rome, Ga.; a daughter Lynne Mixson of Orlando; her mother Grace Cocke of Vidalia, Ga.; three brothers: Andrew Cocke Jr. and John Cocke, both of Savannah and William Cocke of Vidalia; two grandsons and one granddaughter. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Boozer, the Rev. Rex Mixson and the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Bob Forbus, Ted Haney, Bill Lee, Henry Kracke, Tom Torgerson and Tom Wooten.
