Avie Howell, 57, of Sneads died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, in Marianna.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 3, at 2 p.m. CST at El Bethel Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Dykes Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Leo Rhyne Jr. of Marianna died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, in Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala.

He was a member of the St. Michael Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Sunland as a human service supervisor.

He is survived by: his wife, Luerene Godwin Rhyne of Marianna; two daughters, Valeria Rhyne Lloyd (Terry) of Greenwood and Catherine Long (Oscar) of Clearwater; mother, Plassie Swails Rhyne of Marianna; brothers, Arthur Lee Rhyne (Henrietta) of Jacob City, Wallace Rhyne of Marianna, and James Rhyne of Campbellton; sister, Quillia R. McNealy (Samuel) of Marianna; and mother-in-law, Joanna Godwin of Greenwood.

The funeral will be held Saturday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at the Second West Baptist Association Church with the Rev. John Mack officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

The body will lie at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

William Henry Wynn Sr. of Tampa died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, in Tampa.

He was a graduate of the Union Grove High School.

He is survived by: his wife, Frances Wynn of Tampa; two sons, William H. Wynn Jr. (Sharon) of Tinton Falls, N.J. and Anthony McFarland of Philadelphia, Pa.; three daughters, Joyce Altomease Wynn and Cynthia A. Wynn, both of New Port News, Va., and Cotelius Glover of Tampa; seven step-children; brother, Leeroy Wynn Jr. (Clemetine) of Tampa; sister, Annie Ruth Hayes of Largo; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, March 6, at 1 p.m. at the Greater Buckhorn Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. W. Polocks and William Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will lie at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Vann Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mamie J. Pollock, 94, of Bascom died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, in the Washington County Convalescent Center in Chipley.

She is survived by: two sons, Arthur Pollock (Linda), and Robert Pollock (Alice), both of Bonyton Beach; daughter, Carrine Pollock Porter of Bascom; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. H.G. McCollough and Rollie Murray Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will lie at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Vann Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Alice Hicks, 85, of Graceville died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Bonifay Rehabilitation in Bonifay following an extended illness.

She was born in Graceville on Oct. 7, 1918 to the late W.C. and Mary Jane Hardy Sheffield. She was a homemaker and a member of New Home Baptist Church, where she was a pianist for many years.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Leland Hicks; daughter, Hazel Kirkland; son, Charles Hicks and wife Bonnie; and grandson, Chuck Hicks.

She is survived by: two sons, Tommy Hicks and wife Helen, and Ronnie Hicks and wife Cynthia, all of Atlanta, Ga.; son-in-law, Marion Kirkland and wife Janice of Graceville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4, at New Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James and Lipford Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 p.m.

Frankie Finney, 51, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Bay Medical Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Graceville and had been a lifetime resident of Jackson County. She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker.

She is survived by: three sisters, Janette Barber and husband Robert of Marianna, Rebecca Byers of Panama City, and Doris Gardner of Panama City; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held today, Wednesday, March 10, at 11 a.m. at Lord Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Ephusa Baptist Church near Campbellton.

The family received friends Tuesday evening, March 9, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Donald D. Speed, 79, of Marianna died in Jackson Hospital Monday, March 8, 2004, following a brief illness.

A native of Mississippi, he moved to Marianna in 1953 as a flight instructor with Graham Aviation in Marianna. He later served as a flight instructor at Fort Rucker, Ala. In 1991 he retired as a chief pilot for McKenzie Tank Line after 20 years of service.

He was a graduate of Mississippi State University where he was a member of the varsity track team, "M" Club and Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He was a veteran of World War II and of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by: His wife, Eunice Speed of Marianna; daughter, Suzanne Speed of Albany, Ga.; and a sister, Edythe Lamke of Ocean Springs, Miss.

The funeral will be held today, Wednesday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at the graveside of Pincrest Memory Gardens on Caverns Road with the Rev. Fred Ziegler officiating and Lord Funeral Home directing.

The family requests that flowers be omitted. Contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, Jackson Hospital Foundation, Mississippi State University "M" Club, or other organizations.

Sally Redmon, 61, of Marianna died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at her residence.

Arrangements will be announced by James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna.

She was born in Springfield, Mass. and had lived in Jackson County for almost 30 years. She was an educator for more than 32 years with more than 24 years of service in the Jackson County School System. She attended Damascus Free Will Baptist Church in Marianna.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Hamm.

She is survived by: her husband, Robert Redmon; four sons, Ken Peacock and his wife, Sylvia, Kevin Peacock and his wife, Maurica, all of Tallahassee, Dawson Redmon and his wife, Lisa, of Atlanta, and Donald Sampson and his wife, Jennifer, of Marianna; two daughters, Pam Lohne and her husband, Adam, of Tallahassee, and Robbie Ann Riddle of Cottondale; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, March 13, at 10 a.m. CST at Damascus Free Will Baptist Church in Marianna with the Revs. Walter Baxley and Greg Bevan officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Maddox Chapel.

Ida B. Richardson, 65, of Sneads died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, in Tallahassee.

She was a native of Grand Ridge and a lifelong resident of the area. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Grand Ridge and was a retired work shift supervisor for the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee. She was a past volunteer for work with the Girl Scouts of America.

She is survived by: her husband, Hilton D. Richardson of Sneads; four sons, Eddie Richardson and Joe Madrid, both of Sneads, Darwin Madrid and wife Karen of Summerfield, and Pete Madrid of Panama City; two daughters, Anita Richardson of Tallahassee and Cherie Willieson of Pensacola; four brothers, Charles Burke of Grand Ridge, Bobby Burke of Dellwood, Gene Burke of Chicago, Ill., and Johnny Burke of Highlandview; two sisters, Betty Lewis of Johnson City, Tenn., and Colleen Snyder of Crosshill, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, Celine, Chante, Dustin, Ryan, Caroline and Guy Madrid, and Melissa Kilpatrick.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. CST Saturday, March 13, at Providence Baptist Church in Grand Ridge. Burial will be at Dykes Cemetery in Jackson County. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. CST today, Friday, March 12, at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Sneads.

Sally Ann Redmon, 61, of Marianna, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at her residence. The funeral will be held Saturday, March 13, at 10 a.m. CST at Damascus Free Will Baptist Church in Marianna with burial to follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

William Henry "Buddy" Melvin, 46, of Alford died Friday, March 12, 2004, at his residence.

He was a native of Jackson County and was retired from the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Joe and Rushie Kent Melvin; and a sister, Susie Wilkinson. He is survived by: two daughters, Dala Garner and her husband, Ed, of Torrance, Calif., and Melanie Murdock and her husband, Jeff, of Redondo Beach, Calif.; one son, William "Zane" Melvin and his wife, Salli Ann, of Ormond Beach; two brothers, Walter B. Melvin and David Lee Melvin of Alford; two sisters, Maryalice Reese of Marianna and Ardella Griffin of Alford; three grandchildren, Lauren Christenson, Abigail Marie Melvin and Leila Grace Melvin; several nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Bill Chumbley.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 17, at 10 a.m. CST at Maddox Chapel with the Rev. Roy Douglas officiating. Burial will be at Alford City Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 16, at Maddox Chapel.

Walter Allen "Bud" Thomas, 46, of Marianna died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at his residence.

He was a native of Baltimore, Md., but had lived most of his life in Jacksonville. He moved to Marianna in 1998 and was owner of Thomas Carpet Installation Service.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willis E. Thomas and a brother, William Thomas.

He is survived by: one son, Walter "Bud" Tillis, and his wife, Chris, of Jacksonville; one daughter, Shannon Thomas of Ontario, Calif.; his mother, Carolyn Fralick, and step-father, Robert "Bob" Fralick Sr., of Jacksonville; five brothers, Steven Andrews, Terrence Andrews, Troy Fralick and Robert Fralick Jr., all of Jacksonville and Richard Thomas of Ontario, Calif.; and three sisters, Rene McGivney and Tina Carpenter of Jacksonville, and Lois Thomas of Maryland.

Memorialization will be by cremation with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 20, at 10:30 a.m. EST at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Fort Caroline Road in Jacksonville.
