JOSEPH FREDERICK BURRI
Mr. Joseph Frederick Burri, age 83, of 1614 Deer Ave., Panama City Fla., died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at a local hospital. He was raised on a rural farm in Johnson Creek, Wisc. Mr. Burri had been a resident of the Panama City area since 1968, after retiring from the U.S. Air Force as a chief master sergeant. He joined the Air Force in 1940 and served his country during World War II in England, Germany, and Japan. Mr. Burri was Lutheran by faith. He is survived by three brothers: Robert R. Burri of LaMarada, Calif., Alvin W. Burri of Berkeley, Calif., and John A. Burri of Las Vegas, Nev.; and two sisters, Clara Popella of Brunswick, Ohio, and Esther Matzur of Love Park, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella M. Burri, and three brothers: Henry J. Burri, Herman A. Burri and Otto J. Burri.

EDDIE CURRY
Mr. Eddie Curry, 85, of 918 Church Ave., died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Bay Medical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Curry will be held today, July 15, at 2 p.m. in Holy Temple Church of God In Christ with Elder W.C. Green, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. The remains will lie in state one prior to services to the chruch.

AGNES VIOLA GAINES
Mrs. Agnes V. Gaines, 81, of 1341 Roosevelt Drive, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at her home. She was a native of Caryville, Fla. She later moved to Bay County, Fla., where she resided for over 50 years. She attended public school here in Bay County and was a member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Otis Thomas Gaines. To that union was born 11 children, three boys and eight girls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis T. Gaines; two daughters, Patricia Ann Gaines and Agnes (Elease) Collins; and one son, Johnny E. Gaines. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Lewis Gaines of San Jose, Calif., and Tony Gaines of Gainesville, Fla; six daughters: Rosetta (Jesse) Barge, Myrtle Gaines, Shirley (Jimmy) Harris of Panama City, Mildred (Al) Edwards of Atmore, Ala., Vivian (Don) Brown of Brewton, Ala., Evelyn (Jake) Clarke of Geneva N.Y.; one daughter-in-law, Betty Gaines of Lynn Haven; five sisters: Annie Bell (Jessie) Hill of Bushnell, Fla., Mattie McCathan of Caryville, Margaret Mincy of Cottondale, Maebell (Lorenzo) Cruise of Lakeland, Maxine McCall of Arcadia, Fla.; seven brothers: Jimmy Mincy, David (Clara) Mincy, Joe (Elouise) Mincy of Panama City, Elder Hosea (Dorothy) Mincy, Porter (Willie Mae) Mincy of Lynn Haven, Ike (Doris) Mincy of Wewahitchka, Truman Mincy of Tampa; two brother-in-laws, Henry Gaines of Panama City, Frank Gaines of South Florida; one sister-in-law, Clara McGhee of Lynn Haven; 33 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Gaines will be held Sunday, July 16, at 2 p.m. in Neals Temple First Born Church with Bishop S.J. Williams, pastor, and the Rev. Frank Jones, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation for viewing will begin this afternoon from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at 1341 Roosevelt Drive.

JOSEPH J. 'PAPA JOE' RUSSO
Mr. Joseph J. "Papa Joe" Russo, age 60, of 3114 A Lucas Lake Road, Chipley, Fla., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the UAB in Birmingham, Ala. He had been a resident of the area since 1981. Mr. Russo served his country in the U.S. Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star, and the Good Conduct Medal. He is survived by his wife, Ellie Russo of Chipley; his son, Tony Russo of Panama City; his parents, Rose and Ken Morgan of Middleville, Mich.; sisters and brothers: Joann, Judy, Wayne, Robin, Dan, Penny and Steven; stepchildren: Gloria Feeney and her husband Tim, Tera Pippin-Brock and her husband Ken, Chester Fuller and his wife Vicki, and Donna Romano and her husband Tony, all of Panama City, Dean Fuller and his wife Laura of Albuquerque, N.M., David Fuller of Charleston, S.C., and Cindy Fuller of Atlanta; and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Mary Gavin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 15, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Sanders and the Rev. James Brogdon officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Gene Jackson, Joe Fontaine, Buddy Nelson, Ernie Griffin, Bill Schmitz and Bob Hoffman. Honorary pallbearers will include Dr. Hytham Beck, Tom Nickey, Tom West, George Bauer, Dave Lingo, Jack White, and members of Square and Round Dance Association of Panama City. A special pallbearer will be Tommy D. Pippin. The family will be staying at the home of Mr. Russo's stepdaughter, Tera Pippin-Brock, 1208 Vermont Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla.

EVELYN LORRAINE 'LORI' STEED
Ms. Evelyn Lorraine "Lori" Steed, age 26, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, in an automobile accident in Nashville, Tenn. Ms. Steed was a longtime resident of Panama City and had lived in Nashville for the past two years where she had been working as a waitress and dancer. She attended Rutherford High School and enjoyed photography and writing poetry. She loved life and was a strong independent person. She is survived by her father, Ray Steed and his wife Donna of Panama City; her mother, Teresa Fountain and her husband James of Panama City; a sister, Jennifer Steed and her fiance Mark Hamilton of Panama City; half sisters: Terri Renee Knight and her husband George of Wewahitchka, Angela Elaine Steed of Wewahitchka, and Tammy Leonard and her husband John of Lynn Haven; a half brother, Raymond Larry Steed of Bayou George; a stepbrother, Michael Lee Roberts of Panama City; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 17, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Halstead officiating. There will be a gathering of friends at the chapel one hour prior to the memorial service. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

FELIX WILLIAMS SR.
Mr. Felix Williams Sr., 81, of 788 Cedar Ave., died Friday, July 7, 2000, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be held today, July 15, at 11 a.m. in Neals Temple First Born Church with Bishop Richard Jenksin Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in Redwood Cemetery. ROBERT A. FYFE
Mr. Robert A. Fyfe, 90, of 2824 Canal Drive, Panama City, Fla., died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at his home. Mr. Fyfe had been a resident of the area since 1957, moving here from Washington, D.C. He graduated from M.I.T as a Naval architect and a Marine engineer. He was awarded the United States Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award, which is the 2nd highest Civilian award given by the U.S. Navy. Mr. Fyfe retired from the Naval Coastal System Lab and had been in Civil Service for 31 years. He loved to play golf and bridge and was a craftsman in woodworking. He was member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven and The American Society of Naval Engineers, was formerly on the Board of Directors for the Red Cross, past member of the Kiwanis Club, Panama City Country Club and St. Andrews Yacht Club. Mr. Fyfe was a devoted husband. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marguerite Fyfe of Panama City, Fla.; sons, Robert J. Fyfe and wife Ann of Lynn Haven, Conrad Freed and his wife Jenny of Lynn Haven; five grandchildren: Robbie Freed, Amy Freed Gentile, Karen Beck, Robin Freeman and Jeanie Fyfe; five great-grandchildren: Ashley Beck, Abbie Beck, James Freeman, Austin Freed and Jared Gentile. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2000, at the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven, with Dr. Fred L. Keith officiating. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Sherwin Prows, Curtis Potter, Robbie Freed, Brian Dusseault, Charlie Rodenburg, Steve Crooks and Richard Holley. Honorary pallbearers will include Rudolph Prows, Jack Frederick and Bill Boe. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, today, July 16, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Robert A. JAMES P. GARRIGAN
Former resident of Boston, died at age 82 attended by his loving family in Hartford, Conn., on Thursday afternoon following a rapidly progressing illness. He had been a part-time resident of Panama City since l993. He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II and had retired from the Postal Service. He had also retired from Wonderland and Suffolk Downs Racetracks in Massachusetts. He is survived by his son, Kevin Garrigan of Panama City; his daughter, Maureen Pybus of Vernon, Conn.; his daughter, Margaret Carson of Henniker, N.H.; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Mr. Garrigan will be buried in Henniker, N.H.

ALLIE MAE 'MACILE' KIRKLAND
Mrs. Allie Mae "Macile" Kirkland, 66, of Lake Wales, Fla., died Friday, July 14, 2000, at the Lake Wales Medical Center Extended Care Facility. She was born September 6, 1933, in Jackson County, Fla., and has been a resident of Lake Wales since 1950 coming from Cottondale, Fla. She was a retired fruit grader for Citrus World (currently known as Florida's Natural Growers) and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Kirkland. She is survived by three sons: Dwight B. Kirkland, John L. Kirkland, Anthony J. Addison; three brothers: Tom Benefield, Oscar Benefield, R.D. Benefield; four sisters: Lois Rogers, Alean Rogers, Gracie Ivey, Frankie Corbin; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, July 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Johnson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Larry Wallace of Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Wales officiating. Committal service will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions in her honor to the Good Shepherd Hospice, P.O. Box 7129, Winter Haven, FL 33883-7129.

Mrs. Elizabeth Knight Lee, 56, formerly of Troy, Ala., died Friday, July 14, 2000, at Bay County Medical Center in Panama City. GAIL WHATLEY ODOM
Gail Whatley Odom of Parker, Fla., died Friday, July 14, 2000, after a long struggle with cancer. Gail has been a resident of Panama City for most of her life. She was married on January 27, 1969. Gail has been an associate at Wal-Mart in Parker for the past 12 years most of which she spent in the pharmacy. She had a talent for knowing something was special when she saw it. She is preceded in death by her father, Isaac Busch Whatley; sister, Gerald Anita Whatley, who died at birth; and beloved nephew, Walter Clay Barber. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Odom, who never left her side through her many battles; daughter, Lisa Odom and husband Keith; son, Thomas Wade Odom, the father of her only grandchild, and wife Brandi; grandchild, Michelle Lee Odom, the light in Nana's eyes; mother, Juanita Whatley; step-mother, Shirley Whatley; brothers and sisters, Hewey Whatley, Joyce Barber and husband James, Earlene Croom and husband Bud, Marie Nicholes, Dewey Whatley, Tammy Whatley; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. There are many of her fellow associates and friends that she considered family as well. Funeral services for Gail will be conducted Monday, July 17, at 10 a.m. in the Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carlos Finch officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
