Mr. J. Whitney Williams, 83, of Panama City, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at his home residence. Born in Wolfrun, Ohio, he moved to Bay County in 1977 from Tennessee. Mr. Williams was retired from Florida Power and Light Co. He was a member of the Widowed Persons Services and was a past president of the Rotary, the Lions and the Chamber of Commerce in Lantani, Fla. Mr. Williams is survived by his daughter, Linda Burrows and husband, Bill of Cortland Manor, N.Y.; three grandchildren: Jean Fyfe of Morgan Lake, N.Y., Karen Beck and husband, Al of Lynn Haven, Robin Freeman of Tallahassee, Fla.; three great grandchildren: Ashley Beck, Abbie Beck and James Freeman. Memorialization will be by cremation.

Eva Carol Rhine, 80, of Apalachicola, died on Saturday, July 15, 2000, at Bay St. George Care Center in Eastpoint. She was a native of Apalachicola and had lived there since 1965. She was a housewife and homemaker, and was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Carrie Tucker; husband, Clay Rhine; son, George William Rhine; sister, Carol Ann Tucker. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jackie Rhine of Church Hill, Tenn.; four grandsons: Todd Rhine and wife Sherry of Church Hill, Jeff Rhine and wife Phyllis of Kingsport, Tenn., Kevin Rhine and wife Judy of Surgoinsbelle, Tenn., and George Rhine Jr. and wife Susan of Church Hill; five great-grandsons, Chris Rhine, Caleb Rhine, Austin Rhine, Dylan Rhine and George "Trey" Rhine III; two sisters, Nonnie Barber and Quida Cumbie, both of Apalachicola; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. EDT today, July 17, at Kelley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. EDT today, July 17, at Kelley Funeral Home. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, in Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola.

Ronald Sowder, 32, of Fountain, Fla., passed away July 8, 2000. Ron is survived by his father, Neal of Georgia; mother, Janet L. Wolmer of Fort Lauderdale; brother, Martin of Georgia; stepbrother, John Wolmer Jr. of Maryland; stepsister, Brooke Wolmer of Fort Lauderdale; maternal grandparents, Milo and Ruby McCormick of Boynton Beach, Fla.; several aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 18, at 10 a.m. at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home 718 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale.

Billie Whitfield Strickland, 83, died July 14, in a nursing home in Amherst, Mass. The 12th of 13 children, she was the last surviving child of the late Rosalee Estelle Whitfield and Weldon Whitfield. She was born and raised in Dalkeith, Fla., but spent much of her adult life in Birmingham, Ala. She held a number of jobs in Birmingham until her retirement when she moved to South Carolina where she lived for the last 15 years until very recently moving to Amherst. She was a member of the Midway Presbyterian Church of Andersen, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy E. Strickland Sr. and William Roemer; companion J.C. "Red" Albright Jr. She is survived by her ex-husband, Clarence Simmons of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter, Dr. Bonnie R. Strickland of Amherst; son, Dr. Roy E. Strickland Jr. and wife Rebecca Bowen Strickland of Greenville, S.C.; a nephew whom she raised, Charles Roberts of Phoenix, Ariz.; numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. CDT Tuesday, July 18, at the Comforter Funeral Home, Wewahitchka Branch Chapel. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. CDT, Wednesday, July 19, at the Roberts Cemetery in Wewahitchka. In her memory, those that wish may make a donation to a favorite charity.

Mrs. Edith A. Whitton, 76, of 5708 Katherine St., Panama City, Fla., passed away Saturday, July 15, 2000, at her home. Mrs. Whitton has been a resident of Bay County for most of her life, and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Whitton is survived by a daughter, Brenda Rochefort and husband Olie of Panama City; son, Fred Whitton and wife Sue of Panama City; five grandchildren: Roger Whitton of Panama City, Randy Rochefort of the U.S. Navy in Japan, Lori Rochefort, Chris Whitton and wife Nicole, and Jennifer Whitton, all of Panama City; two great-grandchildren, Joyce Lynn Whitton, Chase Cooper Rochefort; sister, Ruby Stokes of Mobile, Ala.; two brothers, Gene Howell of Panama City, and Jesse Howell of Chipley, Fla.; and numerous friends. Mrs. Whitton is preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Whitton. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Parker officiating. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Lloyd Stokes, Howard Whitton, Joe White, John Rochefort, Rickey Dittrick and Mike Turner. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 17. The family will be at the home of her daughter, Brenda Rochefort, 7094 Hugh Drive, Panama City, Fla.

Mrs. Patsy Ann Foster, 68, of Panama City Beach, Fla., died Sunday night, July 16, 2000, in a local hospital. She moved here in 1996 from Conyers, Ga. Her early working years were spent working with Kent Animal Hospital in Birmingham and Dr. Allen Price in Hoover, Ala. She lived 25 years in Greenville, S.C., before moving to Conyers. She spent several years as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels helping others who needed help. Her husband, Bryant Foster, whom she married on July 20, 1956, survives her. She spent the remainder of her life loving and caring for him. Mrs. Foster is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dean Hardesty of Panama City Beach; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ruth and Monnie Hammond of Miami Beach, Fla.; brother-in-law, Robert Ragsdale Sr. of Birmingham; nieces, Cathy Walker and Tracy Bathoie both of San Antonio, Texas, Ladell Hammond of Hollywood, Fla., Heidi Handel of Sarasota, Fla., Robbye Ragsdale of Moody, Ala.; nephews, Mike Lewis of Tallahassee and Robert Ragsdale Jr. of Moody, Ala.; aunt, Mary Francis Ramsey of Jacksonville, Fla. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 19, at 2 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the transporation fund at Shaddai Temple, which is used to transport children to the Shriners Hospital, in honor of Mrs. Foster.

Mr. Philip Anderson Jr., 81, went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2000. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer first class fireman aboard the USS Nicholson during World War II. He worked as an engineer for Southern Pacific for 32 years in his hometown of El Paso, Texas. His parents, Philip Sr. and Vivan Anderson and five brothers: Linden, Ivan, Danny, Gary and Winston, precede him in death. He will be missed in this life and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loretta; his children, Patricia Garwick and husband Tim of Panama City, Joseph Anderson and wife Jackie of Olathe, Kan.; grandchildren: Jason, Samantha and Christian Garwick, Justin Anderson; brothers and sisters: Evangeline, Floyd, Jackie, Dorothy, Pearl, Leona, Gwendolyn, Frank, Edwin and Lloyd all residing out of town. Following cremation, there will be a memorial service for the family at Emmaus Methodist Church in Wewahitcka, Fla., on Sunday, July 23, at 2 p.m.

Edna Morrison Barkley, 102, of Panama City, died Monday, July 17, 2000, in a local nursing home. She had been a resident of Panama City since 1976, moving here from Montgomery, Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Luther Barkley and a daughter, Mildred Rudder O'Daniel. She was a member of Brannonville Baptist Church. She is survived by a grandson, the Rev. Joe O'Daniel and his wife, Linda of Panama City; granddaughter, Maryanne Wilson and her husband, Tommy of Jacksonville, Fla.; two great-grandsons, David Joseph O'Daniel, Matthew Stephen O'Daniel; three great-granddaughters: Kimberly Ann Wilson, Melanie Carol Glover and her husband, Terry, Lisa Marie Wilson; and a great-great-granddaughter, Alison Grace Glover. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Virgil Vickers officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. today. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery, Ala., with Dr. Noel Walker officiating. A Celebration of Life, Martha Marie Crane, one of 12 children, born to Daniel and Olive Sapp of Jackson County in 1909, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 13, 2000. She became wife, mother, and grandmother. She grew up in the area of Cottondale and Alford. Marie became a welder during World War II working on ships being built at the shipyard in Panama City. Rearing three daughters and one son caused her to travel to California, Nevada, Alaska, Ohio and Virginia; making friends and learning many new scenarios. Loving the scripture she shared with family and friends her knowledge of God the Father, Son Jesus and Holy Spirit. Surviving are three daughters, Ava Rodgers, Ruby Holland and Mary Morrison; three sisters, Romella, Irabelle, Arie, all living in Florida; many nieces, nephews, along with church family and friends in Florida and Alaska. Viewing of the body is this evening, July 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Home in Chipley. Services will be held at Sapp Church at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, officiated by Cloys Joiner. Pallbearers will include: Jeff Zoller, Garland Morrison, Mickey Toole, Hubert Cumbie, Bud Webb and Charles Sapp.

George Frederick "Buddy" Holder, 64, of Pensacola, died Monday, July 17, 2000. Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 20, at 2 p.m., in Svea Assembly of God Cemetery in Svea, Fla. Faith Chapel South of Pensacola is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorris Forbes Jenkins passed away July 16, 2000, in her daughter's home in Pretty Bayou. She was a native of Atlanta, Ga., and moved to Panama City in 1983. Dorris was a retired executive secretary of the Insurance Commissioner of Georgia. She was a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class of Northside Baptist Church and past president of the Newcomers Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William A Jenkins Jr.; and is survived by her daughter, Diane J. Cofer; and granddaughter, Lane Cofer, both of Panama City; granddaughter, Greer Cofer of Tallahassee; grandson, Lee Cofer of Gainesville; cousin, Margie Wygand of Ladylake, Fla.; niece, Linda Reisig of Irving, Texas; nephew, Robert Summers of Jacksonville; niece, Sandee Glozier of Atlanta; and uncle, Marcellus Forbes of Black Mountain, N.C. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Northside Baptist Church, 530 Airport Road, Panama City. The family will receive friends directly after the service.

Mr. Paul Dean Guess, age 65, of 137 Palm Grove Blvd., Panama City Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, July 18, 2000. He had been a resident of the area for three years, coming here from Marion, Ky. Mr. Guess was self-employed as a general contractor and a member of St. Andrew Baptist Church. Mr. Guess is survived by his wife, Rosetta Guess of Panama City Beach; sons, Ricky Guess and his wife Cindy of Bartlett, Tenn., and Randy Guess and his wife Debbie of Memphis, Tenn; daughter, LaVanda Holloman and her husband Mark of Marion, Ky., and Paula Cooper and her husband Marty of Princeton, Ky.; stepson, Bartley Stewart and his wife Leslie of Tullahoma, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Tonya Stewart of Franklin, Ky.; brother, Clifton Guess of Marion, Ky.; and six grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 29, at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion, Ky.

Robert David Linden, 66, of Panama City, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in a local hospital Mr. Linden was a native of Wisconsin and had resided in Panama City for many years. Mr. Linden is survived by his wife, Artie M. Linden of Panama City. Mr. Linden was retired as a conductor with the Illinois Central Railroad. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
