CARL RUSS
Mr. Carl Russ, age 70, of Southport, Fla., passed away Sunday, July 30, 2000, at his home. He was a native of Lynn Haven and had lived in the area most all of his life. Mr. Russ was retired as a driver with Amerigas and was a member of Southport Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. Mr. Russ is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen Russ of Southport; two sons, Jimmy Russ and his wife Bertha of Youngstown and Terry Russ and his wife Susan of Southport; two daughters, Debbie Davis and her husband Buddy and Shiann Smith and her husband Shane, all of Southport; a sister, Myrtle Paul of Apalachicola; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Eton Russ, and a daughter, Peggy Denise Roebuck. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Darwin Glass and the Rev. Nixon Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Old Southport Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Jimmy Russ, Carl Russ Davis, Joey Davis, Ronnie Posey, Doyle Kirchman and Jimmy Ray Hutchinson. Honorary pallbearers will include Colin Hutchinson, Buck Hutchinson, Claude Hutchinson and Skipper Hutchinson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will be accepting flowers or donations may be made to the Emerald Coast Hospice, P.O. Box 1530, Lynn Haven, Fla. 32444.

EDA I. ADAMS SMITH
Mrs. Eda Smith, age 82, of Lynn Haven, Fla., died July 31, 2000. She was born May 9, 1918, in Jackson County, Fla., to Zachariah and Alphia Adams. She was a lifelong resident of this area. She was preceded in death by her husband of 641/2 years, Oscar A. Smith. She is survived by her three sons, Oscar Marion Smith and wife Kathy of Panama City, Ambus Meredith Smith and wife Carol of Lynn Haven, Chester Michael Smith and wife Barbara of Panama City; two daughters, Elizabeth Carol Grimes and husband Don of Sacramento, Calif., and Vivian Priscilla Stewart and husband Al of Pensacola; 17 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 1:30 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3140 State Ave., Panama City, with Bishop Billy Hewett and Ken Baumann presiding. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. Mrs. Smith's grandsons will serve as active pallbearers, Billy Smith, Dean Smith, Ty Smith, Steve Smith, Chet Smith, David Grimes, Al Stewart and great-grandsons, Matthew and Chris Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the High Council and Seventies of the LDS Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will be at the home of Meredith Smith, 601 E. 9th St., Lynn Haven.

JAMES C. WEEKES
Mr. James C. Weekes, 74, of Venture Out, Panama City Beach, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at a local hospital. He was a longtime resident of Panama City Beach, coming here from Valley, Ala. Mr. Weekes was a retired veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II in the Pacific. He is survived by a daughter, Samantha, of Valley, Ala.; two brothers, Ryan Weekes and wife, Ollie, of Elizabethtown, Ky., George Weekes and wife, Kay, of Panama City Beach; sister, Josephine Weekes of Campbellsville, Ky,; nephew, Mike Weekes, of Valley, Ala.; niece, Diana Rigsbee and husband John and great niece, Sarah, of Indianapolis, Ind., David Weekes, currently in England and wife, Vicki; Barbara Weekes of Panama City Beach; and aunt, Harriett Holtzclaw of Lewes, Del. Mr. Weekes was active in AmVets many years ago in Norfolk, Va., and in Panama City Beach, until he became ill. During his illness Mr. Weekes was served by the Lord on many occasions through the Rev. Henry Hazard. Memorialization will be by cremation. Those desiring to may make a contribution to American Diabetes. Association.

HASAN JOSIAH PICKETT-BIGGS
Infant Hasan Josiah Pickett-Biggs of 1612 Gainer Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Friday, July 28, 2000, at a local hospital. Hasan is survived by his mother, Janan J. Pickett of Panama City; grandmother, Debra Pickett and her husband John of Panama City; three uncles, John Pickett, DaMarcus Pickett and Mandel Pickett; and a great-grandmother, Jeanette Gilford of Panama City. Hasan will be buried at Garden of Memories at a later date.

CONSTANCE ELLIS
Constance Ellis, age 83, of Chipley, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at her residence. She had lived in Chipley since 1946. She was of the Presbyterian faith and member of First Presbyterian Church of Chipley. Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, Chipley, Fla., with the Rev. Jim Stansbury officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley with Brown Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home. Survivors are two sons, Cliff and wife Carolyn Ellis of Auburn, Randy and wife Linda Ellis of Chipley; two daughters, Carolyn Thomas of Panama City and Teresa Ellis of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Jamie Lee Hatton of Marianna, Helon Steen of Fort Walton Beach; seven grandchildren: Chryssa Ruthland, Clay Ellis, Anna Cathryn Ellis, Ryan Davis, Michael Thomas, Bobby Ellis, Amy Saunders; two to be great-grandchildren, Hannah Grace Rutland and William David Saunders. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church in Chipley or to the U.A.B. Department of Neurology ALS Research, to the Attention of Dr. Shin Oh, 619 South 19th Street, Birmingham, Ala. 35249.

Memorial services for Mr. Alex "Jody" Leavins Jr., age 73, of 2426 Davids Road, Vernon, Fla., formerly of Panama City, who died on Sunday, July 30, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 2, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. AUDREY JONES PITTMAN
Audrey Jones Pittman, 87, of Panama City, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Bay Medical Center after an extended illness. She had been a resident of Panama City since 1949, moving here from Campbelleton, Fla. She was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, King M. Pittman; parents, Issac and Equilla Jones, and 11 sisters and brothers. During her active years, she worked for 15 years at Bay Medical Center and was a dedicated homemaker. Sister Pittman leaves to cherish her memory a devoted son, Curtis Pittman (Easter) of Lynn Haven; a sister, Marie Jones of Panama City; three grandsons, Curtis Cortez and Ronald Pittman of Tampa, Darius L. Simmons of Gainesville; a host of nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in-laws, cousins, and sorrowing friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Pittman will be held Thursday, Aug. 3, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rory Bedford, officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will begin this afternoon at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at 1605 Arkansas Ave.

HAROLD M. BUTLER
Mr. Harold M. Butler, age 76, of St. Joe Beach, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Panama City. A native of Sylacauga, Ala., he had resided here since 1963. He served in the Army during World War II and while in Sylacauga was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Butler was a member of Oak Grove Assembly of God Church, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He built many homes in the area before retiring as a contractor. He is survived by his wife, Edna Butler of St. Joe Beach; his sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Brenda Butler of St. Joe Beach, Walt Butler of St. Joe Beach, Dit and Debbie Butler of St. Joe Beach, Ray and Kathy Butler of St. Joe Beach, and Keith and Tammie Butler of Overstreet; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Wyatt Butler, Truett Butler; and one sister, Lelage Phillips, all of Sylacauga. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. EDT at Oak Grove Assembly of God Church, conducted by the Rev. David Fernandez and the Rev. Guy Labonte. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Cemetery. Mr. Butler's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call this afternoon and evening beginning at 3 p.m. at Comforter Funeral Home.

JESSE DEWEY 'J.D.'FLEMING
Mr. J. D. Fleming, age 88, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Fleming was a resident of Hiland Park, Panama City, from 1952-1997 (45 years). He was a charter member of Hiland Park Methodist Church. For the past 31/2 years he was a member of Chumuckla United Methodist Church in Jay, Fla. He and his brother, Max, owned and operated Fleming Brothers Machine Works on 15th Street for many years. Mr. Fleming had resided for 31/2 years in Santa Rosa County with his daughter. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Beulah Rainey Fleming. Also surviving are two sons and two daughters, Bill and his wife Betty of Port St. Joe, Dewey and his wife Jo of Dalton, Ga., Jadine Ellis and her husband Cliff of Mount Olive, Miss., and Donna Lee and her husband Bobby of Jay, Fla. He was "Papa" to 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a very special brother, Max Fleming of Panama City, Fla.; four sisters, Pearline Tomisini of Fresno, Calif., Laurice Watts of Brinson, Ga., Mable Corbett of Atlanta, Ga., and Majean Browning of Blairsville, Ga. He is also survived by a host of special nieces and nephews and friends. Mr. Fleming is preceded in death by his parents, George and Maude Fleming; one brother, Glenn; and two sisters, Beulah Taylor and Jewel Benson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Powell of Cleveland, Miss., assisted by the Rev. Harry Johnson of Wewahitchka, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery on Highway 231 in Panama City. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are grandsons Earl Ellis, Jay Fleming, Tim Fleming, John Johnson, Thames Gandy, and Teedy Nobles. Honorary pallbearers will include grandsons and granddaughters. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Aug. 3, 2000, from 6 until 8 p.m.
