MARY MARIE BUTLER COOPER
Mrs. Mary Marie Butler Cooper, 46, of Panama City Beach, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at a local hospital. She had been a resident of Bay County 15 years, coming here from Cheyenne, Wyo. Mrs. Cooper worked at Nationwide Fitness as an aerobic instructor and personal trainer for 13 years. Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband Michael Cooper of Panama City Beach; two sons, Charles Glen II, of Denver, Colo., and Keno Butler of Panama City Beach; a sister, Katherine Smith of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a brother, Willie Lee Johnson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four nieces, one nephew, one granddaughter and one grandson. Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her mother, Senoria Mae Johnson and her father, Willie Ohio Johnson.

CHARLES RAY HAYES
Funeral services for Charles "Ray" Hayes of Callaway, who died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, will be held 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Tyndall Air Force Base. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Sept. 10, 2000, from 3 to 5 p.m.

DAVID ALBERT HOLMES
David Albert Holmes, 55, of Destin, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, in a Fort Walton Beach hospital. Mr. Holmes was born in Dothan, Ala. He was a 1963 graduate of Bay County High School, a graduate of Auburn University, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Estelle Holmes of Panama City. He is survived by his wife, Susan Holmes; a daughter, Tiffany Holmes; and a son Darrell Phillips, all of Destin; a sister, Anna Hill and a nephew, Michael Salsbury, of Fort Pierce; an aunt and uncle, Herbert and Hazel Shores, of Panama City. Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at 10 a.m. in the Emerald Coast Funeral Home chapel in Destin. Burial will be in the Fort Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.

CANDACE LEE HUTCHISON
Mrs. Candace Lee Hutchison, 43, of 116 Country Place, Panama City Beach, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at a local hospital. She has been a resident of the area since 1993, coming here from Washington state. Mrs. Hutchison enjoyed life and is survived by her husband, Donald Hutchison of Panama City Beach; a son, Christopher Sullivan of Anchorage, Alaska; and two sons, Gerald Steffensen and Danny Steffensen, both of Anchorage Alaska.

BARBARA ANN ROBINSON
Mrs. Barbara Ann Robinson, 75, of 24 Harrison Ave., Panama City, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at a local hospital. She has been a resident of the area since 1980, coming here from Cambridge City, Ind. Mrs. Robinson enjoyed her church and was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church of Panama City Beach. She is survived by her sons, Robert A. Robinson and his wife Dana J., of Callaway, and Jim Robinson and his wife Janie of Lakewood, Colo.; daughters, Robin Cannon and her husband Michael of Palmyra, Penn., and Tommae L. Hendershot and her husband Melvin of McKee, N.Y.; four brothers: Harry L. Butler Jr., John Butler and Jay Butler all of Richmond, Ind., and Larry Butler of New Zealand; two sisters, Joyce Imhoff and Mary Reichter, both of Richmond, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Lydick officiating.

SARALEE ALLEN SMITH
Saralee Allen Smith died on Aug. 29, 2000, after a five-month illness with cancer of the breast. She was born in Richmond, Ind., on Oct. 18, 1937, to Elizabeth S. and H. Barnard Allen. She graduated from Huntington High School, Huntington, Ind., and attended Indiana University where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Saralee was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church. On Feb. 8, 1957, she married Stephen M. Smith, and moved to Panama City on Aug. 26, 1978. She was a member of the Junior Service League and the Garden Club. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Stephen M. Smith; and four children, Dr. Stephen G. Smith and wife Barbara, Stacia Ann Smith, Scott D. Smith and wife Amy, and Stanton M. Smith and wife Marilyn; nine grandchildren; a sister, Joanna A. Bell, of Philadelphia, Penn. Saralee was preceded in death by two brothers, David Allen and Daniel Allen. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. David Anderegg were held Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel and interment followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Panama City. The poem, Names that are Written in Gold, authored by Dr. Smith's grandfather, Eben Lesh in 1923 for the 80th anniversary of the founding of the First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, Ind., was read as part of her memorial service. Pallbearers were grandson, Aaron M. Smith; nephews, Matthew H. Smith, Nathan A. Smith, John Bell Jr., and David P. Regan; brothers-in-law, Dr. John S. Regan and John Bell Sr.; and friends James H. Gay, James M. Gay and Todd Skinner. The family's heartfelt thanks are extended to the many friends who shared in the memorial service and whose comfort, support and prayers were provided these past several days.

MARVIN L. MERRIT SR.
Mr. Marvin L. Merritt Sr., 81, formerly of Rochester, N.Y., passed away after a brief illness, Friday, Sept. 1, 2000. He had worked for General Motors, Rochester Products Division for 37 years as a senior engineer. After moving to Panama City, Mr. Merritt worked for Judge Elinor, Marine Institute, Haney Vocational School and for the past 12 years at Life Management as a friend and teacher. He was a member of the Optimist Club, Elks Club of Rochester, N.Y., and was a league bowler, breaking 300 several times as well as having a 200-plus average. Mr. Merritt leaves behind his beloved wife and partner of 63 years, Janette A. Merritt of Panama City; sons: Marvin L. Merritt Jr., Barry S. Merritt, Terence K. Merritt and Bradley A Merritt; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela A. Merritt. A private memorial service was held and officiated by the Rev. Charles Key. A graveside service will be held at a later date for family and friends.

PARION REED MIMS SR.
Parion Reed "PR" Mims Sr., 65, of Chipley, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Chipley. Born in Hartford, Ala., he moved to Chipley in 1990 from Overstreet, Fla. He was a Baptist by faith and a member of the GWRRA. PR is survived by his wife Betty Mims; two sons, Parion R. Mims Jr., of Chipley and Kenneth L. Mims of Enterprise, Ala.; one daughter, Deanna D. Daniels and her husband Roy of Milton, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Helderman and her husband Bill of Daytona Beach, and Betty Jo West and her husband Buck of Jasper, Ga.; three stepchildren: Jason Babb of Ester, Fla., Shawn Babb of Bonifay, Fla., and Joseph Babb of Slocomb, Ala.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at 10 a.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel at 100 East 9th St., Panama City, Fla. Internment will follow at Pleasant Rest Cemetery in Overstreet. The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.

CHARLES EDWARD TEW
Charles Edward Tew, 69, of 1305 Evergreen Court in Panama City died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in his home. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1935. He was a member of the Millville Advent Christian Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bobbie Tew of Panama City; daughters: Debbie Lemasters and husband Ronnie, Cindy Tew and friend Don Kelly, Tammy Brown and husband Dennis, Terri Stith and friend Bob Taylor; grandchildren: Mindy Amos and husband Jeff, Keith Lemasters and wife Holly, Kevin Lemasters, Adam Brown, Matt Brown, Nikki Stith and Brittany Stith. Memorial service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in DeFuniak Springs. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Anderson-Broxson Cemetery Association, 3393 Co. Julia Arlene Adams, 57, of Chipley, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, in Chipley, Fla. She was a lifelong resident of Chipley, Fla. She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chipley, Fla. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at 3 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Chipley, Fla., with the Rev. Lee Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Chipley, Fla., with Brown Funeral Home, Chipley, Fla. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe B. Smothers; and brothers, Cary and A.Z. Smothers. Survivors include Maggie Smothers, Chipley, Fla.; husband, Quincy Adams, Chipley, Fla.; two daughters, Deborah Parrado and husband, Peter, of Brandon, Fla., and Phalecia Birge of Tallahassee, Fla.; three brothers, Joe Smothers, Chipley, Fla., Kedric Smothers, Valdosta, Ga. and Wilson Smothers, Bartow, Fla.; three sisters, Louise Lane, Chipley, Fla.; Martha Wilson, Montgomery, Ala., and Ruthie Upchurch, Atlanta, Texas; and a grandchild, Hoyt Birge of Tallahassee, Fla. EARL BOTKINS
Mr. Earl Botkins, 78, of Panama City, Fla, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10, 2000, at his home. Born in London, Ky., he moved here in 1977 from Somerset, Ky. He was a retired Electronics Technician and a member of Lynn Haven Church of Christ. He is also a veteran of World War II serving as Seabee in the U.S. Marine Corp. Mr. Botkins is survived by his wife, Elssy T. Botkins of Panama City; three sons, Earl Botkins Jr., Ray Botkins and Jerry Botkins; one daughter, Lana Sue Botkins all of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Gerald Botkins and wife Mert; one sister, Ruby Long all of Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. in Lynn Haven Church of Christ with Mr. Gerald McCallister officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to the local Alzheimer's Support Group in care of Council on Aging in memory of Mr. Botkins.
