Mr. Edward Hall, 68, of Wewahitchka passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 14, 2000, in Panama City. A native of Calhoun County, he was a longtime resident of Wewahitchka and had retired from the St. Joe Paper Co. His wife, Mildred Hall preceded him in death. Survivors include his children: Jeffrey Hall and wife Rose, Donald Hall and wife Tina of Panama City, David Hall and wife Michelle of Panama City, and Rachel Hall of Wewahitchka; grandchildren: Daniel Hall of Wewahitchka, Amanda Turner of White City, B.J. and Precious Cutter, and Brandon and Kathryn Hall, all of Panama City. The graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. CST on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at New Shiloh Cemetery in Calhoun County, conducted by the Rev. Neal Miller. Internment will follow. He will lie in state at the Comforter Funeral Home Wewahitchka Branch Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

SAMMIE HELMUTH
Mr. Sammie Helmuth, 69, of 1300 Calhoun Ave., in Panama City died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Price and the Rev. John Manautto officiating. Internment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers: Katsuhiko Kobayashi, Nelson Matos, Eddie Taylor, Dan Bartollini, Fred Becker and Dan Hollingshead.

PEARL O. REEVES
Pearl O. Reeves, age 84, of Callaway, Fla. and formerly of Flint, Mich., died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Baycrest Nursing Center in Panama City. Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Parker. Burial will follow in Crestwood Cemetery. Mrs. Reeves was retired from General Motors Ternstedt and was a member of South Baptist Church, where she participated in the Rejoicers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 1972; and son-in-law, Bud Fielder. She is survived by three daughters: Peggy Fielder of Englewood, Fla., Betty and husband Donald McManus of Callaway, Mary and husband Gil Hull of Swartz Creek; six grandsons: Perry Fielder, Greg and wife Sandy Fielder, Donald and wife Doris McManus, Larry McManus, Bradley and wife Deanna Hull, Wesley and wife Kendra Hull; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles "Buck" Brandon of Dyersburg, Tenn., Leon Brandon of California; many nieces and nephews. Those desiring to may make contributions to Northwest Florida Hospice.

CABELL CARRINGTON VASSIE SR.
Cabell Carrington Vassie Sr., 83, was born April 27, 1917, to John and Mary Florence Vassie in Fitzgerald, Ga., and had graduated from Mulberry High School in 1936. He moved to Bay County in 1936 and lived the rest of his life here. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944-1946, worked for a number of years at the Panama City Shipyard as a timekeeper, worked for the city of Panama City Fire Dept. in the late 1940s and 1950s where by examination he became the first paid Lieutenant in the city's Fire Dept. He then worked for the U.S. Navy at the Naval Coastal Systems Station from 1953-1973 as the assistant fire chief until his retirement. C.C. as he is known to all, was a member of NARFE Chapter 1305 and served as its President for two terms, also past president for AARP. He was one of the charter members of the Panama City Toastmasters and instrumental in starting it here in Bay County. Through Toastmasters, he volunteered in West Bay Elementary School and the Catholic School. He was a member of ACME Lodge No. 222 where he served as Worshipful Master in 1988-89 and is a perpetual member. He was a member of Scottish Rite and was a charter member of Shaddai Temple where he served as photographic staffer from 1984-88. Member of Panama Chapter 102 of Eastern Star, Rush L. Darby Court No. 28. Order of Amaranth serving this year as Deputy Grand Royal Patron of the State of Florida, Jordon Shrine No. 13. Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem. He was a faithful member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church and a member of the Pairs and Squares Sunday School Class. He also enjoyed traveling, working at home on his computer, and in his workshop and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Laura Bell Pledger Vassie. He is survived by his second wife of 22 years, Marjorie Rogers Vassie; two sons, C.C. (Butch) Vassie Jr. and his wife Ann, and James Vassie; daughter, Brenda Robertson, her husband Herman and their daughters April and Andrea; granddaughter, Lisa Vassie Reddish and her children Brandon and Brianna; three sisters: Abbie Marie Strickland of Valrico, Fla., Margaret Hall of Lakeland, Fla., and Kathryn Smith and her husband Clyde; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mary and Bennie Burke, Pelham and Bea Revell, Lewis and Annette Rogers, Mrs. Ruth Helms, Mrs. Anne Steele, and Mrs. Jimmy Pledger and many other family members and friends. Viewing will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home with services Tuesday at 2 p.m. with masonic rites by ACME Lodge No. 222 to follow at the graveside at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Those desiring to may make a contribution to Hiland Park United Methodist Church, Shaddai Temple Transportation Fund or the Diabetic Foundation. The Masonic lodge will open one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Don Van Norman, Charlie Hendricks, J.T. Windham, Willie Wilcox, Sam Fischer and Jerry Blount. Honorary pallbearers are members of Chapter 102 Eastern Star, Rush L. Darby No. 28., Jordan Shrine No. 13, and members of his Sunday school class. Mrs. Delores Ann Zwickel, 68, of Panama City died Oct. 13, 2000, at a local hospital. ANNIE RUTH ARNOLD
Mrs. Anne Arnold, age 83, of Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at a local nursing facility. She is survived by her daughters, Moseanna Villars of Chipley, Fla. and Margaret Boone and her husband Roy of Apalachicola, Fla.; seven grandsons, Roger A. Villars, Jon Villars, Robert Villars, Patrick Villars, Dr. Roy Boone Jr., Scott Boone and Brian Boone; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Herron and her husband Ed of Panama City; an aunt, Oleeta Flowers of Decatur, Ala.; and numerous cousins. Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her husband, J. Newell "Shady" Arnold. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Hap Gregg of Apalachicola officiating. JAHAZA EVELYN PORTER BUSH
Jahaza Evelyn Bush, age 86, of Chipley, Fla., passed from this life on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Chipley, Fla. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of New Orange Baptist Church. Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at 3 p.m. in Orange Hill Methodist Cernetery with the Rev. Melvin Justice, the Rev. David Shepard and the Rev. Bob Knecht officiating. Burial followed in Orange Hill Methodist Church Cemetory with Brown Funeral Home of Chipley, Fla. directing. She was preceded in death by the following: daughter, Joan Bush; brother, Felton Lamar Porter; sisters, Mytie Hamilton, Mamie Lee Pinkney, Louise Nelson and Bernice Kent; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Justice and Mary Lynn Hinson. Survivors are husband, Andrew Bush of Chipley, Fla.; one son, John Neal Bush and wife Jann of Wewahitchka, Fla.; three daughters, Mary Hinson and husband Leonard of Chipley, Jean Bush of Chipley, Frankie Justice and husband the Rev. Melvin Justice of Slocomb, Ala.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family ask those who may wosh to make donations to the Gideons or the Hospice of Northwest Florida.

ROBBIE LEE FLOYD
Mrs. Robbie Lee Floyd, age 96, of 1821 Danford Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at a local nursing facility. She had been a resident of the area since 1944, coming here from Red Bay, Fla. Mrs. Floyd was a seamstress at Alabama Textile and a hospital aide at Lisenby Hospital. She was a member of Heritage Bible Church and Order of the Eastern Star No. 223. Mrs. Floyd is survived by a son, J.D. Floyd of Panama City; a daughter, Doris J. Heath of Panama City; grandchildren, Kevin Del Heath and his wife Debbie of Panama City, Holli Nalani Ramsey and her husband Edward Allen of Southport, Mark Devon Floyd of Red Bay, Fla., and Sonia Jean Osawa of Panama City; granddaughter-in-law, Deborah Heath of Fieldale, Va.; great-grandchildren, Maygan Lee Ramsey and Edward Heath Ramsey, both of Southport, Tabitha Ranae Osawa and Satcha Osawa, both of Panama City, Matthew Floyd Brown of Michigan and Edward Heath Ramsey of Southport; a sister, Bunice Ferguson of Powder Springs, Ga.; and three half-sisters, Flora Crawford, Eula Day, and Noma Speigner, all of New Brockton, Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband, Green F. Floyd; a grandson, Larry Robin Heath; and a son-in-law, Larry Delano Heath. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Henry Hazard officiating. Interment will follow with the Order of the Eastern Star No. 223 conducting graveside services. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Mark Floyd, Kevin Heath, Allen Ramsey, Angus Thomas, Dave Ganoe and Bert Gwaltney. MACK KENT
Jerry Mack Kent, 67, of Apalachicola, died on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City, Fla. A native of Altoona, Ala., Mr. Kent had lived in Apalachicola since 1974. He was a sergeant in the United States Army, retiring after 20 years of service. While in the U.S. Army, he had served in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star. He was employed by St. Joe Paper Company in Port St. Joe and attended Living Waters Assembly of God Church in Apalachicola. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Allene Kent of Apalachicola; two sons, David R. Kent of Beaufort, N.C., and Jerry N. Kent of Apalachicola; one daughter, Rita A. Polous of Apalachicola; one brother, A.W. Kent of Fayetteville, N.C.; three sisters, Pearl Odom of Winter Haven, Fla., Opal Holcomb of Gadsden, Ala., and Billie Sinisis of Mentor, Ohio; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. EDT today, Oct. 17, at Kelley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Living Waters Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery, Apalachicola, Fla., with full military honors observed graveside.

MR. THOMAS RUSLEY MEEKER
Mr. Thomas Rusley Meeker, age 94, of 2134 Island Lake Circle, Panama City, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area since 1974, coming here from Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Meeker was the son of a pioneer of Bonifay, Fla., Rusley Romaine Meeker. He was a graduate of the University of Florida. Mr. Meeker served his country in the U.S. Navy as a commander and was a veteran of World War II. After the war he was in the U.S. Navy Reserves for many years. He was a civil service employee, working at the Navy Department in Washingon D.C. and later at the Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio, in the Foreign Technology Division, retiring in 1970. Mr. Meeker was a pioneer in the field of infrared technology. He loved to read, mostly technical journals, and enjoyed bowling. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City, and was an active supporter of the Republican Party. Mr. Meeker is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pauline Meeker of Panama City; a son, Paul Rusley Meeker and his wife Ginger of Caldwell, Idaho; a daughter, Janet Pandzik of Montgomery, Ala.; a brother, Francis Meeker and his wife Elsie of Dothan, Ala.; and a granddaughter, Jenifer Meeker of Fort Collins, Colo. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.,Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Honorary pallbearers will include members of Mr. Meeker's Sunday school class at First Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 17, 2000. Contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 1813-C. W. Fairfield Drive, Pensacola, FL 32501.

EUPHAMIA R. ROBERTS
Euphamia R. Roberts passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at the age of 98. She was born in Apalachicola, Fla., on June 13, 1902, and lived all of her life in this area. Mrs. Roberts was a charter member of Gulf Chapter No. 191 Order of the Eastern Star and served as the first Esther. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Marshall Trawick, father of her children, and Oscar L. Trawick. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Mae Trawick and a son, William L. Trawick. She is survived by two sons, Harry L. Trawick and wife Florence of Thomasville, Ga., and Robert H. Trawick and wife MaryJane of Port St. Joe; a daughter-in-law, Frances Trawick, widow of William Trawick of Smyrna, Ga. She is further survived by five granddaughters, two grandsons, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. There will be no viewing or visitation. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Oct. 18, from the graveside of Jehu Cemetery, conducted by Brother Cy Williams and Brother David Nichols, followed by Eastern Star Rites. Interment will follow.
