Mrs. Mary E. "Betty" Wiles, born July 30, 1920, died Dec. 30, 2000. Originally from Vandergrift, Pa., Betty came to South Florida in 1953 and moved to Panama City in 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. "Bill" Wiles II; her parents, Norris and Nelle Swenk; and her brother, William F. Swenk. Survivors include three sons, John W. "Billy" Wiles III and his wife Marilyn of West Palm Beach, Fla., Glenn E. Wiles and wife Lynda of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Richard A. Wiles and wife Sue of Lynn Haven, Fla.; a daughter, Sharon Lee Purucker and husband Charles of Troy, N.C.; a sister in law, Catherine Swenk of San Diego, Calif.; nephews, Bruce and David Swenk of San Diego, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, two "adopted" grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Betty was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church, the Bay Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Arthritis Foundation. Betty has generously donated her body to the Anatomical Board of Florida, Gainesville, for research. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Forest Park United Methodist Church for family and friends at a time to be announced later. Funeral services for Raymond E. Young, 77, who died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at his home in Laguna Beach following a long illness, will be held today, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Those desiring to may make a donation in his memory to the Salvation Army. Active pallbearers will be Raymond Young Jr., Rand Young, Michael D. Young, Doug Young, and Raymond Conrad.

Mrs. Martha Jane Taylor, 79, of Youngstown, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at a local hospital. A native of Morrow, Ohio, Mrs. Taylor had lived in Youngstown since 1962. She was a retired restaurant cook. Survivors include a daughter, Delories Hall and husband James of Youngstown; three brothers, Roger Leach and wife Karen of Oxnard, Calif., Ronnie Leach and wife Jackie of Bayou George, and Larry Leach and wife Sandy of Waldorf, Md.; two sisters, Phoebe Hoose of Ohio and Cora Kigbo of Lebanon, Ohio.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Memorialization will be by cremation with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

Robert Brandt "Robby" Whitehorn, 47, of Panama City, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000. He was a native of Washington, D.C., but a lifelong resident of Panama City. He was a graduate of Bay High School and Gulf Coast Community College. He worked as a radiologic technologist. He was a naturalist and enjoyed antique collecting. Robby was an accomplished guitarist and musician. He will be missed dearly by his loving father, friends and family. He was preceded in death by his elder brother, Clark Whitehorn Jr.; and his mother, Virginia B. Whitehorn. He is survived by his loving father, Dr. Clark Whitehorn of Panama City; loving son, Clark Whitehorn III of Lynn Haven; and fiancée, Denise Nyland of Panama City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to charities of choice, or to the Partners in Hope, St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, Box 501, St. Judes Place, Memphis, TN, 38105; or to Feed the Children, Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK, 73101. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Rex Winford "Buddy" Adkison, 53, of Southport, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in a local hospital. Mr. Adkison lived here all of his life and was a truck driver by trade. The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. A memorial service will follow with the Rev. Luke Miller and Donnie Young officiating.

Dr. Donald C. Barnhill, 68, of Panama City Beach, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000. Dr. Barnhill faithfully served the Lord in ministry for 40 years serving in Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota and New Jersey. He received his doctorate degree from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary. He was past president of Conservative Baptists of America. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, a brother and a daughter, Deborah Ocean. He was loved, respected and is survived by, his loving wife of 48 years, Pauline Barnhill; two daughters, Rebecca and Wes Stude of Colorado, and Rachel and Max Marosko of Lynn Haven, Fla.; a son, Gregory Barnhill of Colorado; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Zachary, Demian, Jared, Tyler, Jordyn, Michaela and Max; two sisters, Barbara Storey of Arizona and Loretta Lim of Panama; two brothers, Richard Barnhill and Morris Barnhill both of Iowa; numerous other relatives and friends. He lived his life according to the Bible. He had a passion for God, his family, and his churches. His life influenced so many lives. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, from Hiland Park Baptist Church, 2611 Highway 231, Panama City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Conservative Baptists of America.

Mrs. Linda Faye Bozeman, 56, of Wewahitchka, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in a Panama City Hospital following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Wewahitchka, she attended New Harvest Fellowship. Mrs. Bozeman was the beloved widow of the late Henry L. Bozeman "Jr.," also of Wewahitchka. Survivors include two daughters, Jody L. Bozeman and Mary Lee Bozeman; one son, Henry L. (Bud) Bozeman III; and his grandchildren, Jesse J. Johnson "Jr.," Curt Johnson, William Morgan Jr., Bobbi Lee Hester and Henry (Larson ) Bozeman IV, all of Wewahitchka. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. CST on Friday, Jan. 5, at New Harvest Fellowship, conducted by the Rev. Claude McGill and Bro. Dallas Presley. Interment will follow in the family plot in Kemp Cemetery. She will lie in state at her home this afternoon until funeral time.

Mrs. Lillian Merle Pitts Taylor Court, 67, of Pompano Beach, Fla., died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at 12 p.m. at North Broward Hospice Center. Services took place Monday, November 6th, at Gold Coast Crematory in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Lillian was born on April 3, 1933, in Fountain, Fla. A descendant of early Floridian settlers Judge Mathew Woodard Nixon (1849-1925) and wife Joyce Matilda Ellis, Bennett Holley (1797-1863) and wife Mary Ballard Halley (1803-1890), Francisco Mackery (d.1886). Lillian is preceded in death by her parents, Leva Woodard Pitts (1901-1987) and Ethel Dorothy Mackery (1908-1997). Her cultural heritage included family from France, Ireland, Italy and Spain. Lillian graduated from Bay County High School in Panama City, Fla., in 1950 and continued her education in Chicago, Ill. She retired from the Respiratory Therapy Department at Los Olas Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Lillian spent most of her life traveling the world and sharing the experiences with family and friends. During her lengthy battle with cancer, Lillian was an inspiration to many people. Survivors include her husband of 38 years, George R. Court of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Frances G. Hammonds; and grandson, James-Robert Harry Hammonds of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; an uncle, Dr. Earl R. Mackery of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Leva Earl Pitts; and the following first cousins and their families, Jimmie L. Mackery of New York, N.Y., John F. Mackery of Dallas, Texas, Clifford B. Sheppard of Jacksonville, Fla., Ina C. Bond of Dallas, Texas, Patricia A. Griffin, Fannie L. Puckett, Virginia M. Stark and Irma L. Suggs, all of Panama City, Fla., Pauline L. Strickland and Betty J. Tharpe of Pensacola, Fla., the children of the late Uncle Mose Pitts and Pearl Irene Forbes of Panama City, Fla., and the children of the late Ruby Pitts Sellers of Jacksonville, Fla.

Janice Kay Norris, 53, of Panama City, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in a local hospital. She was a native of Alabama and had been living in Panama City for the past 14 years. The family requests memorialization by cremation.

James Oscar Stroud passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at a local hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, his mother and father, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by one daughter, Ann Matlock (Leonard) of Wewahitchka; and one son, James M. Stroud (Mary) of Athens, Ala.; five grandchildren, George V. Matlock (Jeryl) of Tallahassee, Leonard A. Matlock III (Patricia) of Conesus, N.Y., James Clay Stroud, Jennifer Nicole Stroud, and Whitney Lynn Stroud all of Athens, Ala.; four great-grandchildren, Evan Matlock and Logan Matlock of Tallahassee and Chelsea Matlock and Colleen Matlock of Conesus, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. James retired as an accountant in 1972 and moved to Florida where he and his wife owned and operated "Stroud's One Stop" in the Dalkeith community. He served his country as a flight instructor during World War II and his Lord as a Christian since 1972. Services will be held at Limestone Chapel in Athens, Ala., Friday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be today, Jan. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wewahitchka Public Library Building Fund.

Beulah Tefft Webb, age 88, of 130 Heritage Circle, Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 3, 2001, at St. Andrew's Rehabilitation Center of Jenks Ave. She is survived by three sons, Robert of Parkersburg, W.Va., Clyde of Del Rio, Texas, and Charles T. Webb of Panama City Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Dodd, Sue Webb, David Webb of Panama City and Debra Stewart of Chattanooga, Tenn. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Vaughn Funeral Home at Parkersburg, W.Va. In lieu of flowers you may send donations to the American Red Cross.

Mr. Sam B. Holmes, 78, of Vernon, passed away Jan. 3, 2001, in the N.W.F.C.H. in Chipley. He was a native of Washington County and of the Methodist faith. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. Luke A.M.E. Church Vernon with the Rev. Jerome Goodman, Bishop Richard Jenkins Sr., Min. John C. Jackson, and Min. Eli Andrews officiating. Interment will follow in St. Luke Memorial Garden Cemetery near Ebro with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley directing. Survivors include one daughter, Teressa Gonzales and husband Michael of San Antonio, Texas; three sons: Albert Holmes of Fort Walton Beach, Andrew Holmes (Nellie) of Deltona, Fla., and Ralph Holmes (Estella) of Vernon; three sisters: Nettie Clemmons of Vernon, Mary Lee Holmes of Fort Walton Beach and Easter Queens of California and many other relatives and friends. The remains will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until time for the services at 11 a.m.
