Bert Ella Warren Drew, born Sept. 28, 1918, in West Bay, Fla., to Preston and Ruby Pearl Rogers Warren. Mrs. Drew was employed with Panama Motor Parts (now Panama Marine) as a bookkeeper for 32 years before retiring in 1981. She came out of retirement after several years and was employed by Howell Marine and Tackle and G. David Mercedes Franklin Company as a bookkeeper. She was a lifetime member of the Millville Advent Christian Church where she at one time taught Sunday school and was the church treasurer for 25 years. She was an active and later became an associate member of the Women's Home and Foreign Mission Society. She held several offices in the Florida National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary as well as in the local chapter. She graduated from Bay County High School in 1937 in the top ten of her class and was active in the Bay County High School Class of 1937 Alumni and the St. Andrews Elementary School Alumni. Mrs. Drew was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Langdon Drew Sr.; her son, George Langdon Drew Jr.; a sister, Mazie Warren and three brothers, Emmett Warren, J. Lee Warren and Russell Warren. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Ann Drew Shealy and her husband Ken of Panama City; grandson, Adam Langdon Shealy and his wife Devon of Flat Rock, N.C.; granddaughter, Marianne Shealy Dobbs and her husband Bobby of Panama City; great-grandchildren, Kenan Austin and Lauren Avery Dobbs of Panama City; brother, George Lynn Warren and his wife Betty of Oxford, Fla.; sister, Marian Warren Wilkinson and her husband, Russell of Panama City; a special and devoted sister-in-law, Tot Drew; devoted friends of over 50 years whom she loved dearly, Herbert and Hazel Shores and friends of over 40 years, Freddy and Betty Welch all of Panama City; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Wilson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Buchanan and Brother Wendell Owenby officiating with interment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be today, Jan. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilson's. Those desiring so may make a donation to the New Organ Fund of the Millville Advent Christian Church, 2220 E. 3rd St., Panama City, FL 32401, or Hospice of Emerald Coast, 700 W. 23rd St. Suite 59, Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Bert Drew.

Mary Emma Duce, 88, of Marianna, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at her daughter's residence. She was born on Dec. 30, 1912, at Two Egg, Fla., and lived in Jackson County all her life. She and her husband enjoyed their farm life in the Lovedale-Two Egg Community. Mrs. Duce was of the Baptist faith and a retiree of Florida State Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.E. "Bill" Duce; her parents, Tony and Lula Allen Horne; one brother, Wilton Horne; one son-in-law, Robert Moline; and one grandson, Mark Moline. Survivors include two daughters, Elsie Moline of Marianna, and Ruth King and her husband Newt of Marianna; two sons, Gayle "Ed" Duce and wife, Patsy of Jacksonville Beach and Donnie Duce and wife Patricia of Chipley; Lo Watts of Jacksonville; one brother, Charles Horne and Delores of Sneads; a sister-in-law, Margaret Miller of Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 9, 2001, at Lord Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Adolph Phares officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Freewill Baptist Cemetery in Dellwood with Lord Funeral Home of Marianna directing. Mrs. Duce will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Bernice Loyce Dykes, 79, of 1606 Lake Ave., Panama City, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Glen Cove Nursing Pavilion. She was born on May 31, 1921, in Mossy Head, Fla. She was a communications specialist in the U.S. Women's Army Corp. during World War II. She was a dedicated homemaker, loving wife and mother. She loved and enjoyed all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Frederick C. Dykes; two daughters, Nancy Marsden and husband Alan of Titusville, Fla., and Sally Lee and husband Johnny of Panama City; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to their favorite charity in memory of Bernice Dykes.

Mr. Milton G. Harris, 78, of Panama City Beach, died Sunday, Jan 7, 2001, in a local hospital. Born is Easley, S.C., he moved here in 1982 from Montgomery, Ala. He was in textile management with Dan River Mills and was a member of Gulf View United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in Europe. His parents, Benjamin F. and Arcenia Harris, precede him in death. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary M. Harris of Panama City Beach; two sisters, Connice Garrick and Nell Skinner, both of Easley, S.C.; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted today, Jan. 9, at 3 p.m., in Gulfview United Methodist Church in Panama City Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gulfview United Methodist Church, 232 Rose Lane, Panama City Beach, 32413, in memory of Mr. Harris.

Mr. Vernon L. Hedger, 62, of Southport, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Iowa, he moved here in 1991 from West Point, Iowa. He retired from the U.S. Army and worked for Howell Concrete. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Deer Point. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 12, in West Point, Iowa. Samuel A. Ochman, age 61, of Panama City, died Friday in Gulf Coast Hospital in Panama City. Mr. Ochman was born in Germany and was a longtime resident of Calhoun and Bay County. He was a former employee of Dr. Bert Shuler and was a massage therapist. He was predeceased by his wife, Viola Hewett. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Mr. Melton Hewett of Panama City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. CST at Graveside of Poplar Head Cemetery in Clarksville with the Rev. Dennis Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow.

Mrs. Etta Mae Sampson, age 75, of 136 N. Vestavia St., Panama City Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at a local nursing facility. She had been a resident of the area for 20-plus years, coming here from Orlando, Fla. Mrs. Sampson was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Rebeccas, which she considered a high honor. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed dancing with her husband, Kenneth L. Sampson, who preceded her in death in 1997. Mrs. Sampson is survived by a son, Charles Allen Sampson and his wife Betsy of Dothan, Ala.; four daughters, Susan Frans of Panama City Beach, Debra Treace and Lee Ann Davenport and her husband Joe, all of Panama City, and Sylvia Butts and her husband Art of Springhill, Fla.; grandchildren, Nanette Treace, Mandy Treace, Angie Figueriedo, Christian Treace, Tessa Treace, JoAllen Davenport, Sammy Davenport, Mason Davenport, Kyle Sampson and Chad Sampson; and great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Harrison, Kayle, Maria and Delilah. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday., Jan. 10 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Key officiating. Interment will follow at Lynn Haven Cemetery.

Thomas P. "Tom or Tommy" Smith, 22, of 1394 Benebola Road in Gordo, Ala., and recently of 1716 Paddock Club Drive in Panama City Beach, died suddenly on Jan. 5, 2001. He was a graduate of Gordo High School, attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Tom was a 2000 graduate of Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City. An avid and accomplished drummer, he had a lifelong interest in music and photography. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Harold E. Smith of El Dorado, Ark.; and his grandfather, Glenn H. Leise of Orlando, Fla. Tom, an only child, is survived by his parents, Dr. Harold E. and Lisa Smith of Panama City Beach, and Diann Corr of Gordo, Ala.; his grandparents, June Smith Hornor and her husband Curtis of Springdale, Ark., Blanton and Barbara Corr of Gordo, and Betsy Leise of Orlando; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in El Dorado, Springdale, Ark., Tuscaloosa, Ala., Savannah, Ga., and Orlando. Debra Ann Webster, 49, of Panama City, passed away Jan. 4, 2001. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Juanita and Frank Andrews of Mississippi; her father and stepmother, William and Betty Sheeran of Athens, Ala.; husband, Jerry Webster; three daughters, Kristee Bourne, Ellisa Murray Williams, Kenisha and her husband Todd Tully; grandchildren, Sydney, Kylah, Jessica, Naomi, Alexis, Kira, Tommy and Anissa; four sisters, Toby, Karen, Bettye and her husband Odell, and Lynn and her husband Brian; one brother, Tim and his wife Mary; seven nieces and nephews; and five great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many friends, especially the congregation at Springfield United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m., Springfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Perry Dalton officiating. William Joseph (Joe) Arnold, age 30, of Panama City passed on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in his home at 409 School Ave., lot G-6. He moved to Panama City in 1996. Employed by Bennett, Logue and Bennett, Joe was the lead singer for the local band "Friends of Joe". He is survived by his mother, Inge Arnold and brothers, Pat Robinson, John Robinson, Robert Howell and Michael Howell. Services will be held at the Springfield Community Church on Friday, Jan. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. Joe is a wonderful addition to God's Kingdom as he was to all of the lives he touched. Michael Ted "Mike" Burton, 55, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. He was born in Alabama, served in the USS Navy, and had been a resident of Wewahitchka more than 20 years. He had run the Cypress Lodge. Mr. Burton is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Gary Thompson of Wewahitchka; a stepdaughter, Kirstie Weaver and daughter Victoria, of Panama City; two brothers, Jasper Dean Buron of Georgia and Sammy Burton of Alabama; one sister, Linda McClendon of Panama City; one nephew and several nieces. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Wewahitchka, Thursday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m CST. Interment will follow at Buckhorn Cemetery. He will lie in state today, Jan. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. CST at Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe.

Mr. Julius Turner Clines, 79, of 1510 Fountain Ave. died Tuesday Jan. 2, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a native of Lowery, Fla., and a resident of Panama City for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 777th Field Artillery Battalion. He worked as a truck driver and a taxi driver. He also worked for the Council On Aging several years before retiring. He is survived by a loving wife, Beatrice Clines of Panama City; son, Toney Clines (Arianna) of Ft. Lauderdale; two daughters, Mary A. The remains will repose at the church this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.,and will lie in state on Thursday at the Church from 10 a.m. until service time.
