Born in Albany, Missouri, he was lovingly raised in Rushville, Ill., by his aunt and uncle, Charles M. and Alice Garrison. They then adopted him shortly after the death of his mother, Kathryn Wilson. She had requested that her sister, Alice Garrison raise the child and that the family name of Dace should be the child's given name. He knew from an early age that he wanted to be a pilot, and set about plans to fulfill this fervent wish. He became licensed to fly all aircraft and became a commercial pilot with Northwest Airlines. Mr. Garrison also taught airline flying in Galesburg, Ill. With the onset of World War II, he volunteered his services and was sent to Randolph Air Base for instruction in the military manner. His first assignment, still as a civilian, was Moore Air Base near Mission, Texas where he served three months before being commissioned as a Captain. Shortly, thereafter he received his command wings. He was stationed at Luke Air Base in Arizona, then Rhine-Maine Air Base in Germany. While there, he flew on weekends to Berlin carrying tons of coal and food for the German populace. Mt. Home Air Base, Idaho was next and he then was assigned to Travis Air Base, Calif. During this time he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic and meritorious achievement, and the meritorious service award. He then served at Forbes Air Base in Kansas, and finished his service at Tyndall Air Force Base, making Panama City his home. He served his country in World War II and Korea earning many medals and accommodations. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed life most when he could be outdoors. His retirement in 1960 gave him this opportunity. He is survived by his wife Norma whom he met in Mission, Texas; a cousin in Kansas, Wallace Dace; a brother-in-law, Frank Ewers and wife, Louise.
