Mrs. Vida Watson, 92, of Highland View, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at her home. A native of Calhoun County, she had been a longtime resident of Highland View and operated Vida's Cafe many years ago. Survivors include her niece, Debbie Butler; and two nephews, Rhett Butler and Chase Butler, all of St. Joe Beach. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. EST Thursday, Feb. 15, from the graveside in Holly Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Tim Bailey. Interment will follow. She will lie in state at Comforter Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

Funeral services for Mr. Jay Cecil Williams, age 81, of Panama City, who passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 14, 2001, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dorman Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Ronald Brock, Gary Williams, Jerry Williams, Keith Williams, Jimmy Brock and John Fitzgerald.

Myrtis H. Harrison, 90, of 1400 Forrest Ave., Chipley, went to be with the Lord Monday, Feb. 12, 2001. Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Chipley. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetary. Brown Funeral Home in Chipley is in charge of the arrangements.

Major Clair B. "Lefty" Henderson, 85, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at his daughter's home in Winter Park, Fla. He battled lung cancer for four months surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren in Orlando. He came to Panama City in 1942 and traveled the world in the US Army returning to Panama City when he retired in 1962. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was married for 55 years to the late Marguerite Wilson Henderson. He is survived by his two sisters, Dorothy Farner of Burgettstown, Penn., and Katherine Johnston of Wintersville, Ohio; daughter, Pat Henderson, her husband, Bob Quibodeaux and their two children Julie and Brian Quibodeaux; daughter, Claire Henderson Fournier; her husband, Glenn Fournier and their son Michael Fournier. The family will be receiving visitors at Wilson Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. A full military funeral honoring Major Henderson will be held graveside at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Annice Johnson, 87, of 1506 Flower Ave., died Sunday Feb. 11, 2001, in a local hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held today, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. in Shekinah Glory Ministry Church, 1729 St. Andrews Blvd., with Minister Billy J. Davis Jr. officiting. Interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time. The family will receive relatives and friends at 1511 Fortune Ave.

Ethel Reece Redding Niblack was born Oct. 15, 1904, in Biloxi, Miss. She died Feb. 13, 2001, at Bay Crest Nursing Center, Panama City, Fla., where she had resided for three years. Mrs. Niblack was the youngest child of Charles Walter Redding and Nancy (Annie) Pittman Redding. She graduated from Biloxi High School in 1922 and from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga. in 1926. She taught school at Natchez, Miss. In December of 1927, she married Emmett A. Niblack Sr. at the Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi, Miss. Mrs. Niblack was a lifelong member of that church and was an active member of St. Agnes Guild for more than half a century. Mrs. Niblack was a participant in Biloxi Gray Ladies during World War II and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was also a charter member of Chapter D, PEO in Biloxi and received the 50-year certificate of membership in 1999. She was likewise a member of Fortnightly Club for more than fifty years. Mrs. Niblack was predeceased by her parents and her husband of sixty years, Emmett A. Niblack Sr., U.S. Army retired. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Valentine C. Redding and Charles M. Redding; three sisters, Esther A. Redding, Estelle R. Lussier and Maybelle R. Finley; two nieces, Eugene R. Parker and Dorothy Finley Brooking; and one nephew, Valentine C. Redding. She is survived by three children, Emmett A. Niblack Jr., USAF retired of Highlands, N.C., Charles R. Niblack of Mobile, Ala., and Nancy Niblack Dantzler of Panama City. She is survived by two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, three stepgreat grandchildren, two nieces, Charline Redding Cole and Shirley Redding Heitzman of Biloxi, Miss., and two nephews, Charles Lee Redding of Mesa, Ariz., and Ormond V. Redding of Biloxi. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Agnes Scott College, 141 E. College Ave., Decatur, GA 30030, to The Church of the Redeemer, 610 Water Street, Biloxi, MS 39530 or to your favorite charity. Charles Aubrey Porter Sr., 87, of 3121 Mason Road, Walnut Hill, Fla., died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001. Born April 1, 1913, in Bay County, Fla., Mr. Porter was the last of a family of early settlers in Bay County. He had worked for Gulf Power Company. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his parents, James Cooper and Minnie Porter; sisters, Nellie Hait, Anna Mae Porter, Gladys Porter Blue, Thelma Leitch; brothers, Lee Porter, Clyde Porter, Richard Porter, Leslie Porter, Roy Porter; daughter, Patricia Ann Woods. He is survived by his wife, Edith R. (Reese) Porter; sons, Charles A. Porter Jr., James R. Porter Sr.; grandchildren, Charles Woods, James R. Porter Jr., Chance Porter, Hayden Porter, Pamela Woods, Sandy Groueu; great-grandchild, Zackary Groueu. Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. in Lynn Haven Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating.

Mrs. Peggy Louise Smith, 81, of Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at her home. Born in Carroll County, Ga., she moved here 45 years ago from Chattanooga, Tenn. She was a loving mother, devoted wife and a genuine homemaker. She was happy doing things for her family. Mrs. Smith was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ben H. Ashmore and Lula Jones Ashmore; and four brothers, Earl Ashmore, Jarvis Ashmore, Marion Ashmore and Ray Ashmore. Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving husband, Everett Charlie "Smitty" Smith whom she married in 1954 of Panama City; one son, Stephen Ray Smith of Chattanooga; one grandson, Christopher Ryan Smith of Chattanooga; aunt, Opal Jones of Bremen, Ga.; many loving nieces and nephews. Memorialization will be by cremation.

Florida Helen Gay Adams, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001. She was a kind, good-hearted person, multi-talented and a great cook. Everyone always felt welcome in her home and loved to gather there. She had a quiet sense of humor and was a loving and faithful sister and daughter. She read her Bible every night before she went to bed and her favorite scripture was II Timothy Chapter 4 Verse 7, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Parker (Pete) Adams. She is survived by two sons, Clifford Parker (Petey) Adams and his wife, Sheryl, Andrew Gay (Andy) Adams; mother, Catherine Thomas and her husband, Tommie; two sisters, Charlotte Phillips and her husband Russell, Linda Hill and her husband, Wyman; two step-grandchildren, Robert Paul Newman Jr., Wesley Ryan Newman, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Council on Aging in memory of Helen Adams. She will be greatly missed but Heaven is blessed with her presence.

Bennie B. Burgess, 55, of Lynn Haven, Fla., died Feb. 11, 2001, in Treasure Island, Fla. He is survived by his wife Julie (Call) Burgess of Lynn Haven. He was an international representative for Regions 8 of the United Auto Workers. He started his career as a union representative at General Motors Plant in Wilmington, Del., Local 435. From there he worked for 15 years for the General Motors Department of the UAW in Detroit, Mich. The last four months he had worked for the UAW Region 8 out of Smyrna, Ga. He had many interests - he loved boating, golfing, NASCAR racing and was an avid basketball fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels. Visitation will be held today, Feb. 16, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Neal and Summers. Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Neal and Summers. Barbara Ann Daube, age 64, died in Panama City, Fla., on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Lenore, W.Va., to the late Bill and Golda Maynard. Barbara was a member of Heights Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, N.M., where she worked with children's bible school. She was presented with "Outstanding Citizen Award." She is survived by her devoted husband of 38 years, Daniel; her son, Dr. D.C. "Skip" Daube and wife Kellie of Panama City; daughters: Dannie Daube, Dawn Woyak and husband Gene all of Albuquerque, N.M., Lisa Gaston and husband Danny of New Bern, N.C. Barbara is also survived by the "lights of her life", her grandchildren: Alexis, Jordyn, and Richelle Woyak, Christopher and Carah Gaston, to whom she gave and received much love; brother, Bill Maynard and wife Nancy of Garner, N.C.; sister, Sandra Pinkston and husband John of Maysville, N.C., several nieces and nephews. Barbara leaves many friends and relatives, whose lives she touched with her gentle, loving Christian spirit. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18, at Northside Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice.

Mr. Robert Earl Floyd, age 76, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at his residence. A native of Malone, Fla., he had lived in Panama City for 48 years. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and spent six months as a German P.O.W. Mr. Floyd worked as an electrician at the Paper Mill for 34 years. He was a member of the Hutchinson-Poplowski Ex-P.O.W. Club and the Springfield Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife of 55 years, Earnestine V. Floyd of Panama City; a daughter, Tina Brown and her husband Calvin of Youngstown; two brothers, Hosie Floyd and his wife Allie Verne of Lynn Haven and Ellis Floyd and his wife Maggie of Chipley; two sisters, Mattie Pearl Penny and her husband Perry and Willie Myrle Davis and her husband Alfred, all of Cottondale; and five grandchildren: Jean Saunders, Natalie Saunders, Kyle Brown, Brandon Brown, and Kristen Brown. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday Feb. 17, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Andrew L. Smith, the Rev. Jerry Everage, the Rev. Franklin D. Penny, and the Rev. Harry Powell officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery in Kynesville, Fla., with military honors.
