Funeral services for Mrs. Beverly Diane Hernandez, age 57, of Henderson, Nev., who died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, will be held at 3 p.m., today, Feb. 24 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Greg Swindle officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, today from 2 to 3 p.m., an hour prior to service time.

Margaret Louise Kandarakis, age 73, of Tallahassee, and a former resident of Bay County, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, in Tallahassee. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 at Beggs Funeral Home Apalachee Parkway Chapel in Tallahassee. Burial will follow in Culley's Meadowwood Memorial Park in Tallahassee. The family will receive friends today, Feb. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Beggs Funeral Home Apalachee Chapel. A native of Memphis, Tenn., she had lived in Madison, Fla., before moving to Tallahassee in 1980. She was an executive assitant for Simmons Mattress Company and was a devoted mother. She was Baptist in faith. She is survived by her husband, Dr. John C. Kandarakis of Tallahassee, who was a former educator in Bay County; two daughters, Bella C. "Dina" Andrews of Denver, Colo., Maria C. Stephens of Denver; one brother, Joseph Poole of Palm Desert, Calif; three sisters, Seleta Simpson of Panama City, Pat Weiss of Newhall, Calif., Beverly Ruth Buelow of Corona Del Mar, Calif.

Jack T. Shumaker entered into rest Feb. 16, 2001, in Cupertino, Calif., at the age of 81. He was the beloved husband of Erna; devoted father of Linda Crawford, Beth Slater and Cathryn Lake; loving grandfather to Heather, Charity, Mike, Matt, Jessica and Dougie; dear brother of Ruth Fielding of Chipley, Evelyn Peoples of Alabama, and the late Naomi Faust, Mona Curtis and Homer Shumaker. Jack was a veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Idaho; a retired 35 year employee of Pacific Telephone, an active member of AA, a member of Sunnyvale, Calif., Lodge No. 511 F&AM. Jack was a native of Chipley. Memorial services will be held today, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m., at Crossroads Bible Church, 1670 Moorpark Ave., San Jose, Calif. 95128. Inurnment at Piney Grove Cemetery, Chipley.

Mr. Alto C. "Steve" Stephens, 86, of Wewahitchka, Fla., died early Friday morning, Feb. 23, 2001, in a local healthcare facility. Born in Jackson County, Fla., he moved to Port St. Joe in 1982. He was a retired truck driver for St. Joe Paper Company and was a member of First Baptist Church of Wewahitchka. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. His parents, Wesley and Nonnie Stephens; a son, John Wesley Stephens and a brother, Curtis Stephens precede him in death. Mr. Stephens is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Martha Stephens; one son, Frank Bass; four daughters, Cheryl Pate of Wewahitchka, Victoria Scott and husband John of Marianna, Norma Dell Kucera and husband Martin, Kathryn Kingsbury all of Winter Haven; a daughter-in-law, Ann Stephens of California; three brothers, Ralph Stephens of Basom, James Stephens of Chattahoochee, and Gaston Stephens of Dothan; three sisters, Willadean Chandler of Malone, Pauline Hatcher of Chattahoochee and Ida Mae Hodges of Cottondale; 20 grandchildren, several great and great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. CST in First Baptist Church of Wewahitchka with the Rev. Mike Stroud officiating. Interment will follow in Cypress Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

Mr. Joseph Launzary Tyson, 36, of 601 Maple Ave. died Monday Feb. 19, 2001, in a local hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Tyson will be held today, Feb. 24, 2001, at 2 p.m. in Neal's Temple First Born Church with Bishop Richard Jenkins Sr. officiating. Interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church today from 10 a.m. until service time. The family will receive relatives and friends at 2103 E. 8th Court.

Mary Sue Young, 85, of Panama City, died on Feb. 22, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City and a member of Faithful Servants Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Hardee, Helen Fralick, and Hollie Sperry; and one brother, William P. Young Jr. Survivors include two nieces, Mrs. Ann Hair and husband Buddy of Springfield, La., and Mrs. Hollie Ostrander of Panama City; three nephews, the Rev. Isaac McDonald and wife JoAnn of Elizebethtown, Ky., Ralph Hardee and wife Burma Sue of Lake City; and William Harrell and wife Lou of Lakeland. The family will receive friends at 300 East Second St. on Tuesday, Feb. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. Private graveside services will be held on Thursday in Lake City, Fla. Those desiring to may make a donation to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1200, Panama City, FL 32401 in memory of Mary Sue Young.

Nellie H. Chumley, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at the Tallahassee Community Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla. A native of Jackson County, Fla., Mrs. Chumley had lived in Chattahoochee, Fla., since 1954 and was a homemaker and member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Chattahoochee. She is survived by four sons: Wayne Chumley of Chattahoochee, Donald Chumley of Grand Ridge, Fla., James Chumley of Cypress, Fla., and Jerry Chumley of Blountstown, Fla.; four daughters: Faye Chumley and Ada Ethridge of Chattahoochee, Mary Chumley of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Barbara Milford of Centerton, Ark.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, at Calvary Baptist Church, highway 90 East, Chattahoochee. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Chattahoochee. Family will receive friends today, Feb. 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. EST at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Chattahoochee.

Fannie Welsh Dickey, 96, of 1107 Arthur Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in a local hospital. She had been a lifelong resident of Bay County. Mrs. Dickey was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Henry Dickey. She is survived by two daughters, Oveida Biever of Seabrook, Texas and Bonnie Taylor of Panama City; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will he held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Chapel with Richard Post officiating. Interment will follow in the Compass Lake Cemetery.

Earl Burton Jones Jr. went to join the angels on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001. He served in the Navy, and he was a retired aircraft toolmaker. He worked for the Shriners, and also was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army at Sam's. He was a prolific songwriter and singer, as well as a fascinating storyteller. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shirley; five children: Earl Jones III, Shawna Hatcher and husband, Robert, Amy and Emily Jones and Kendall Mask and husband, Thomas (T.W.); four grandchildren: Tyler, Beverly, Hannah, Trevor and baby Hatcher to-be; and a nephew, James Davis and wife, Dawn, and their children. A memorial service will be held at Palo Alto Church of Christ Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. with Kenneth Grizzell officiating. In lieu of flowers, send lottery tickets!

Mr. John Wallace Reeder, age 59, of 238 James Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at his home. He has been a lifetime resident of the area and was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints of Callaway, Fla. Mr. Reeder is survived by his wife, Jane Reeder of Panama City; a son, Gary Oliver Reeder of Panama City; his mother, Kinnie Reeder of Eastpoint; two sisters, Iris Tackman and Molly Milliner, both of Eastpoint; three brothers: Kenneth Reeder of Eastpoint, Howard Reeder of Apalachicola and Billy Reeder of Tallahassee; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26 at the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints on Lake Drive in Callaway with Bishop Phil Davis and Austin Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Ebro Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, today, Feb. 25, 2001 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Viola Whitlock Rosenau, 87, joined her beloved husband, Alex Weil Rosenau, on Feb. 23, 2001. She moved to Panama City as a bride in 1935. She retired from International Paper Company. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Rosenau Hudson of Panama City and three grandchildren: James Franklin (Lin) Hudson and wife, Jean, Sharon Doredant and husband, Michael all of Tallahassee and Juli Long and husband, Steve of Panama City. Her great-grandchildren called her G.G. and were the light of her life. They are Katie and Rachel Hudson, Thomas Doredant, Alexandria Hudson-Gould and Winston Long. She is also survived by three siblings: Jack Whitlock, Mary Pinney and husband, Bob and Virginia Waller, all of Pensacola, Fla.; 14 nieces and nephews including Winston and Joyce Waller of Panama City; and also survived by her long term coffee friend, Jan Allan Flint. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Temple Bethel Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., with the Rabbi N. William Schwartz officiating. The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. In keeping with her lifelong spirit of caring for others, those desiring to, may make a contribution to a charity of personal choice in memory of Viola Whitlock Rosenau.

Lucile B. Rush, 94, of Lynn Haven, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in a local hospital. Miss Rush taught first grade in Michigan elementary schools for 37 years and four years at Cookson Hills Christian School in Oklahoma. She had been a resident of Bay County since 1990, moving here from Michigan. She is survived by a brother Carleton of Belleville, Mich., four nieces, seven nephews and many grand-nieces and nephews; and caregiver Paula Collins of Lynn Haven, Fla.. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Vestaburg Church of Christ in Edmore, Mich. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the McBride Cemetery in Michigan.

Mr. John Clark Gray, 79, of Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday at Bristol National Healthcare. Mr. Gray was born in Panama City, Fla., to the late Joseph S. and Julia Philips Gray. He was a graduate of Bay High School, attended University of Florida, ETSU and graduated from Carolina School of Commerce. Mr. Gray served in the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific during World War II and was retired from the Army Reserve as Chief Warrant Officer IV after 32 years of service. He was an accountant for Gardner's Dairy in Rocky Mount, N.C., for 12 years before moving to Bristol in 1960; and he was comptroller for Bassett's Dairy until his retirement. Upon retirement, he was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, the Red Cross and numerous church groups. He worked in disaster areas and built homes and churches in foreign countries and in the U.S. Mr. Gray was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served on several committees, taught Sunday school including the Silent Friends Class, and was past chairman of the Board of Deacons. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Mayo Gray of Bristol; two sons, Michael C. Gray and wife, Diane of Gallatin, Tenn., and Thomas C. Gray and wife, Janet-Leigh of Bristol; eight granddaughters: Anne, Kelly, Kathy, Angela, Leigh-Anne, Alyson, Kimberly and Abigail; two grandsons, Andrew and Kirk; one great-grandson, Connor; one sister, Lois Gray Henschen of St. Cloud, Fla.; one brother, Philip Gray of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be today at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Rand W. Forder and the Rev. Luke Martin officiating. The family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Akard Funeral Home.
