Mrs. Inez Broxson Canter, age 73, of 3209 E. 6th Plaza, Springfield, Fla., died Friday, March 2, 2001, at her home. She was a lifetime resident of the area and attended Callaway Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Canter is survived by her husband of 51 years, Woodrow Canter of Springfield, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara Sheppard and husband, Jerry of Dothan, Ala.; sons, Mack Canter and William Canter of Springfield; sisters: Cora Lee Fowler and husband, Obie of Callaway, Fla., Lella M. Hicks and Helen Gore of Callaway, Onida Bruner of Parker, Fla., Lillie Mae Hagans of Callaway; brothers, Johnny J. Broxson and wife, Joyce of Callaway, David Broxson Sr. and wife, Carol of Parker; seven grandchildren: Sandy Walsingham and her fiance, Larkin Harsey of Panama City, Fla., Stacy Padgett and husband, Bill of Springfield, Halie Arnold of Panama City Beach, Fla., Jesse Hixson of Panama City, Junior Canter of Springfield, Michael Canter of Calif., and Randy Davis of Ga.; three great-grandchildren: Miranda Padgett, Alyssa Padgett and Triston Harsey. Mrs. Canter was preceded in death by daughter, Ruby Canter Arnold; a brother, Junior Broxson; and sisters: Vera Mae Goodwin, Elizabeth Fowler and Nora Lee Burkett. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Callaway Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: David Broxson Jr., Ronald Fowler Hicks Jr., Kenneth Hicks, Brent Hall, Larkin Harsey. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are: Hud Harsey, Dewey Sheppard, Gene Riley and Tony Broxson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 4.

VIRGINIA K. GIDEON
Mrs. Virginia Helen Kingery "Viki" Gideon owner of Cottage by the Sea Apartments at Laguna Beach, Fla., and secretary/treasurer of the Shrine of Our Lady Star of the Sea, departed this life Friday afternoon, March 2, 2001, in Florida; her two children were at her bedside. Mrs. Gideon semi-retired in Florida four years ago, moving from her home of nearly 50 years in Arkansas. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles B. and Georgia Bubeck Kingery of Tulsa, Okla. Her sister, Mrs. Charlene Murray died last April in Jacksonville, Fla.; her brother, Richard B. Kingery of San Francisco, Calif., died in 1994. Her beloved husband, George O. Gideon Jr., of Little Rock, Ark., died in 1985. Mrs. Gideon was a lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and became a champion of ecumenical efforts. She had little tolerance for sectarianism holding all should "work together to build a better world." Originally, she was a member of First Christian Church Tulsa and since the 1950s First Christian Church Little Rock. She especially appreciated the Christian Womens Fellowship and "Circle 6." Raised in the Great Depression, Mrs. Gideon became a frugal and successful business executive. Her first position was as a manager for J.C. Penney, Tulsa. In Little Rock she was executive secretary for many years to Sidney M. Brooks, founder of Arkansas' first advertising agency. Later she held positions with KARK television, KAAY-KEZQ radio, Lloyd Schuh, Steve Stephens and Robert M. Goff Associates. She was past secretary of the Administrative Management Society and Sales and Marketing Executives. In the 1970s, she traveled the world on business concerns. Survived by daughter, Lynda J. Shipp of Lynn Haven, Fla; son, the Rev. G. Monty O. Gideon of Panama City Beach; grandson, Craig D. Shipp and wife, Margie of Lynn Haven; great-grandchildren: Nichele, Craig Jr., Denise, Kyle and Robert Charles Shipp; nieces, Patti Hardin Cooper of Savannah, Ga., and Susan Hardin Miller of Neptune Beach, Fla. Rosary and visitation will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at the Roller-Chenal Chapel, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark., by the Rev. Richard Flores, Pastor St. Rita's Catholic Church, Fort Worth, Texas. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001, Little Rock National Cemetery by the Rev. WILEY BENJAMIN McADAMS
Wiley Benjamin McAdams, 98, of Round Lake, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at Jackson Hospital in Marianna. Born in Alabama, he would have been 99 on March 23. He moved to the Round Lake area in the 1920s and had been a member of the Round Lake Baptist Church for over 50 years. Ordained as a Deacon in 1937, he had served as an active deacon until the last few years when he was no longer able to serve. "Daddy Mac," as he was fondly called by all his family and friends, loved to farm and had looked forward to growing a garden again this spring. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Nora Melissa Sowell McAdams; and a son, Wiley Benjamin McAdams Jr. He is survived by one daughter, Lucile Sadler and her husband, Jeffery Lee of Round Lake; three sons: Glen McAdams and his wife, Madalene of Lynn Haven, George Olin McAdams and his wife, Thelma of Lynn Haven and James Elwood McAdams of Daytona Beach; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. CST today, Mar. 4, at Round Lake Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Grimes, a nephew, and the Rev. James Blalock officiating. Burial will follow in Round Lake Cemetery with James and James Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel directing. Pallbearers will be grandsons James and Boyd McAdams, Tim Sadler and Wayne Sadler; grandsons-in-law, Jerry Rhinehart, Ron Johnson, Richard Coleman and great-grandson R.J. Johnson. Mr. Charles A. Stumpp Jr., 69, of Panama City, Fla., died Feb. 22, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Redding, Pa., he moved here in 1970 from Miami. He was a boat mechanic. Mr. Stumpp is survived by three sons: Charles A. Stumpp III, Frank and Kenny Ulrich; four daughters: Donna Rushing, Sharron Stumpp, Linda Cassidy and Debra Evans; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, March 5, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike McVay officiating.

Blanche Wagoner, 71, of Apalachicola, died on Friday, March 2, 2001, in Tallahassee. Mrs. Wagoner was a native of Clinton, Ala., moving to Apalachicola 51 years ago. She taught school at Chapman Elementary until she retired, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Apalachicola. She is survived by her husband, William R. "Coach" Wagoner of Apalachicola; a son, Wally J. Wagoner of Ocala; a brother, John Waller Henderson of Birmingham, Ala.; two sisters, Doris H. Leavelle of Austin, Texas and Winona H. Franklin of Ocala; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Archie Eugene Henderson; and two sisters, Roena H. Grisham and Frances H. Porter. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 5, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Apalachicola. Visitation will be today, March 4, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Kelley Funeral Home. DOROTHY MARY ANN FROHLICH 'DODIE'
Mrs. Dorothy Mary Ann Frohlich, age 66, of Panama City, went to meet the Lord Sunday, March 4, 2001, at her residence with her loving family at her side. A native of Berea, Ohio, she had lived in Panama City for 36 years, moving here from Parma, Ohio. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. John's Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Dogwood Circle, Panama City Garden Club. She enjoyed growing flowers and plants, especially cactus and loved baking and cooking for her family and friends. She and her husband were the former owners of the original "Magic Onion" sandwich shop on Hwy. 98, near Gulf Coast Community College. She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 48 years, Victor Frohlich of Panama City; sons, Jeffrey Frohlich and his wife, Sue of Panama City, Mark Frohlich and his wife, Liza of Orlando; daughter, Christine Frohlich of Gooding of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Lenny Tout and his wife, Cathy of Panama City; grandchildren: Michael, Aaron and Michelle Frohlich; nieces, Karen Spreng, Dawn Klamseur; nephews, Paul Tout, Johnny Frohlich; and a first cousin, Frank Kish. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Marty Bratek officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Jessie O'Quinn Hathaway, 95, of Texarkana, Texas, died at a local hospital Saturday, March 3, 2001. Born in New Verda, La., on Nov. 4, 1905, Hathaway had taught school in Louisiana and in Bay County, Fla. Survivors include her niece, Paula Christianson of Texarkana; nephew, Louis Mathis of Paris, Texas; great-niece, Angela Garrett of Hooks, Texas; and great-great-nephew Shane Garrett of Hooks. Graveside funeral services will be held at Rondo Cemetery today, March 5, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Parker First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Florence Rebecca Pitts, 79, of the Abe Springs Community in Blountstown, died Saturday March 3, 2001, at the Calhoun-Liberty Hospital. Mrs. Pitts was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Abe Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Pitts was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy J. Pitts; a daughter, Otheda Pitts Dickinson; and a brother, Carlos Peavy. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Betty Pitts of Abe Springs; one daughter, Inell Stutzman of Port St. Joe; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Ms. Carol Annette Davis, age 46, of 2211 E. 6th Court, Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, March 4, 2001. She had been a resident of the area for four years, coming here from Scottsdale, Ariz. Ms. Davis is survived by her stepfather, Arthur "Bud" Cross of Panama City; two sons, John W. Davis and his wife Leslie of Panama City and Matthew L. Davis of Panama City; a sister, Suzanne Swartz and her husband Curtis of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a brother, Michael Abney and his wife Kris of Pittsburgh, Pa.

WILLIE ETHEL ENGLISH
Mrs. Willie Ethel English (Grandma Peak), age 91, of Port St. Joe, Fla., went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2001, at Gulf Coast Hospital. She was born on June 17, 1909, in Holmes County, Fla., and attended the Church of God in Highland View. Mrs. English is survived by two sons, Earl Peak and wife Melba, Jerry Peak and wife Carolyn; one daughter, Carolyn Williams and husband Tommy all of Port St. Joe; 32 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren as well as great-great-grandchildren. Grandma Peak was preceded in death by three sons, Roy, Jake and Paul; four stepsons, Oneal, Noah, J.R. and Hosea; and one stepdaughter, Sis. Funeral services will be conducted today, March 7, at 11 a.m. EST at Highland View Church of God with the Rev. Tim Bailey and the Rev. Dave Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Cemetery. Grandma Peak's grandsons will serve as pallbeaers.
