OBIE FRENCH LEGEAR
Mrs. Obie French Legear, age 82, was born to Bud French and Nanny Chitty on Oct. 29, 1918, in Holmes County, Fla. God called her home on March 20, 2001, after a lengthy illness at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. An accomplished business woman, Mrs. Legear owned and operated Unique Beauty Salon in downtown Panama City for 35 years. After her retirement she launched herself into her second career, as the owner and landlord of several rental properties that included Legear's Mobile Home Park and Townhouses. Mrs. Legear was a devout Christian and a founding member of the Hiland Park United Pentecostal Church. She survived her husband, Alvie Cullifer and an infant daughter, Emmamarie. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Noah A. Legear Sr.; daughter-in-law, Kathleen K. Legear; and infant granddaughter, Kristina Marie . She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Noah A. Legear Jr. and his wife Jan; a precious granddaughter, Kimberly L. Golden and her husband Frank; three sisters, Wilma Cullifer and Blondell Taylor, both of Westville, Fla., and Onnie Robinson of Panama City; a brother, Wallace H. "Pete" French of Panama City; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cawthan and the Rev. Collis French and two sisters, Selma Davidson and Voncille French. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., today, March 24 at Kent-Forest Lawn Home Chapel with the Rev. Wilfred Carter officiating and Mr. Wallace C. French providing the eulogy. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Wallace C. French, Kenny French, Dennis Kay French, Darryl French, Kevin French, and Tim Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will include: Roger Gross, Charlie Breitenbach, and Clay Hughes.

CATHARINE CHERYL WISE
Catharine Cheryl Wise, 39, of 211 Elm Way, Panama City, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at her home. She had been a resident of Panama City since Oct. 1997, moving here from San Antonio, Texas. Cathee is survived by her husband, Melvin Scott Wise; two sons, Christopher S. Wise of Panama City, Christopher M. Wise of Palm Bay, Fla.; daughter, Athena C. Wise of Panama City; her parents, Johnnie A. and Mona L. Wilson of Palm Bay; sister, Cynthia Haire of Panama City, and a brother, Johnnie B. Wilson of Palm Bay. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.

OLIVER R. MOBLEY
Mr. Oliver R. Mobley, 81, of Panama City, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in a local extended care facility. Born in Piedmont, Ala., he moved here in 1983 from Atlanta, Ga. He was a Christian gentleman who loved the Lord and treated everyone with compassion. Mr. Mobley is survived by his sister, Sally M. Poythress of Laguna Beach, Fla.; two nieces, Cindy Wilder of Minnesota, and Margaret Blackwell of Atlanta; nephew, Joseph Freenstra of Nevada. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Mobley will be conducted on Tuesday, March 27 at 3 p.m. in Crest Lawn Cemetery in Atlanta.

EARL WOODFAULK JR.
Mr. Earl Woodfaulk Jr., 49, of 1020 East 14th Court, died Sunday morning, March 18, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. He was a longtime resident of Bay County, Fla. He is survived by his daughter, Ms. Tracy Woodfaulk; two grandchildren, Mercedez Marshall and Alexius Woodfaulk, all of Dublin, Ga.; three brothers, Gregory (Angelia) Woodfaulk, Ronald (Glinda) Woodfaulk, and James (Ethal) Woodfaulk, all of Panama City; two sisters, Patricia (Carl) Miller of Royal Palm, Fla., and Loretta (Roger) Blue of Sarasota, Fla. Mr. Woodfaulk leaves a loving godmother, Mrs. Betty Groden of Port St. Joe, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and devoted friends. Graveside services for Mr. Woodfaulk will be held today, March 24, at 1 p.m. in Hillside Cemetery with Bishop Lonnie Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at 1020 East 14th Court.

DAVID FULLER EMORY SR.
Mr. David Fuller Emory Sr., 77, of 1705 Alabama Ave., in Panama City, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2001, at a loal hospital. Mr. Emory was a long time resident of Evans, Ga., before moving to Panama City in 1971. He was a member of the Bay Masonic Lodge No. 337, Order of the Amaranth, York Rite Masonic Bodies, Bay County Chapter No. 39 R.A.M., Panama City Council No. 26 R&SM and the St. Johns Commandery No. 29 KT, Jordon Shrine No. 13 and a member of the St. Andrew Baptist Church, where he was a member of the men's Sunday school class. Mr. Emory is survived by his wife, Vivian Irene Emory, of Panama City; two daughters, Dianne Pongratz and Kay Wright Svitenko, both of Panama City; a son, David F. Emory Jr., of Youngstown; eight grandchildren: David F. Emory III, Donna Robinson, Matthew Emory, Lori Pongratz, Lyn Morris, Gordy Pongratz, Megan Wright and Kerry Wright; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barabara Jonson of Evans, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Bay Lodge No. 337, with the color guard conducted by the York Rite. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2001.

STEVEN MATTHEW PEACOCK
Steven Matthew Peacock, 11, of Callaway went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2001, at the Children's Hospital of Birmingham, Ala., from complications during the treatment of Wegener's Granulomatosis. Steven was born in Enid, Okla., on March 23, 1989, and moved to Callaway with his mother in 1990. He was a student in Miss Hendrix's 6th grade advance classes at Everitt Middle School. A loving and kindhearted young man, Steven loved Florida State University, soccer, water sports, computers and all animals. He will be greatly missed by his loving family including his parents, Danny and Kathy Morgan of Callaway and Terry and Debbie Peacock of Troy, Ill; brothers, Ryan and Brent Peacock; sisters, Sarah Morgan and Kelsey Peacock; maternal grandparents, Bill and Nicki Kist; and uncle and aunt, William and Jeannie Kist. If desired, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham, Ala., or the PICU at Children's Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. Funeral services for Steven will be held Monday, March 26, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Southerland Family Funeral Home.

Alice A. Machen, 213 Ninth Street, Port St. Joe, Fla., died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Gulf Pines Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, March 27, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church in Port St. Joe and burial will follow in the Holy Hill Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. Alice was born on Dec. 31, 1931, in Ozark, Ala. Upon graduation from Troy State University in August 1954, she moved to Port St. Joe where she taught at the Port St. Joe High School from 1954 until her retirement in 1994. Alice was the daughter of the late Walter and Totsie Andrews of Ozark, Ala. She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Machen. Surviving relatives are daughter, Karen and husband, Dale Borden, of Port St. Joe, Fla.; Tina Machen, Fairhope, Ala.; two grandchildren, George and Canda Borden, of Port St. Joe, Fla.; a sister, Grace Andrews and husband, Charles C.; and one nephew, Charles Andrews, of Ozark, Ala.

VERNIA B. SMITH
Vernia B. Smith, 80, of Panama City Beach, went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2001. She was a loving wife, mom and nanny. She may be gone, but not forgotten. Mrs. Smith leaves behind her beloved husband of 59 years, A.F. "Smitty" Smith, two children, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The Smith family will receive friends at Southerland Family Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Williamson & Son Funeral Home in Soddy Daysi, Tenn.

JOY ANN THORNE
Mrs. Joy Ann Thorne, 72, of Jacksonville died Friday, March 23, 2001, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville. Born in Bessemer, Ala., on Jan. 1, 1929, she moved to Bay County in 1952 and worked the Bay County School Board for 27 years as a teacher. She retired from Bay High School in 1981. She was also a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church. Her parents, John and Vera Bowe, and a son, John G. McClanahan, preceded her in death. Mrs. Thorne is survived by one son, George B. Thorne and wife, Sandy of Weston, Fla.; one brother, Jerome M. "Jerry" Rowe of Lake City, Fla.; one sister, Serena Rowe Johnson of Alachua, Fla.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at 3 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Homes Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 30, 2001, at 2 p.m. in St. Catherine's Manor Chapel in Jacksonville.
