Fannie Jorgensen, 95, a resident of St. Andrews Health Care in Panama City, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held in Crestview at Whitehurst Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Park Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. Family and friends are invited to gather at the home of Kathleen Buxton this morning to pay their last respects. Mrs. Jorgensen was predeceased by her husband, Dan Jorgensen of New York City. She was a loving homemaker and will be missed by her large family to whom her strong personality brought unity in the most difficult times. Mrs. Jorgensen had been a resident of Panama City since 1975. She has two surviving daughters, Rosemary Salmon of Hayes, La., and Kathleen Buxton of Panama City. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive her. Mrs. Jorgensen was predeceased by a son, Jon Jorgensen of Panama City, who passed away this Feb. 8.

Funeral services for Mr. William Foy "Moog" Ogburn, 88, of Howard's Creek, who died Friday March 30, 2001, will be held at 4 p.m. today, April 02, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will be staying at the home of Mary Locke, 1111 Hickory Ave., Panama City, FL.

LTC U.S. Army (Ret.) George Madison Pridmore, 85, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and formerly of Daleville, Ala., died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Daleville Baptist Church with Chaplain (Col.) Ervin Shirey and Dr. Mack Amis officiating. Burial will be in Meadowlawn Cemetery in Enterprise, Ala., with full military honors and Searcy Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends today, April 2, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Pridmore will be taken to the church one hour before funeral time. He graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., in 1937. Called to active duty in 1941, he served in the U.S. Army as an aviator. After 20 years of dedicated service, he retired in 1961 at Fort Rucker, Ala. He then made his home in Daleville for 26 years. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Felicia Arnold who, as Mr. Pridmore's caregiver, was loving and caring toward him. They would also like to give special thanks to Dr. George Miller and colleagues, and to the devoted nurses and staff at DCH Regional Medical Center. Their grace and consideration in the care of our loved one is greatly appreciated. At the time of his passing, he was residing with his daughter and son-in-law in Tuscaloosa. Mr. Pridmore was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Violet Pridmore. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Buddy Rug of Tuscaloosa, and Georgia and Kim Nichols of Daleville; and two grandsons, Aaron and Madison.

Mr. Gaither Ernest Sasser, 77, of Panama City passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a native of Cairo, Ga., and had lived in Panama City for 38 years after coming here from New Mexico. Mr. Sasser was a retired Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. After his retirement, he worked as a hardware salesman at Sears, Roebuck and Co., retiring in 1978. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parker and the Sears Retiree Club. Mr. Sasser is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Sasser of Panama City; daughters, Linda Mercer and her husband George of Panama City, and Debra A. Sasser of Parker; a grandson, Kevin H. Duncan and his wife, Kelli of Bayou George; a brother, A.L. Sasser and his wife, Dot of Columbus, Ga.; a sister, Hilda M. Sasser of Silver Springs, Md.; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Charles E. Dotson, 69, of Panama City, Fla., died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at his residence. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1968. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of dedicated service. He then worked 20 years in civil service at Tyndall Air Force Base. Charlie was an active member of the Panama City Moose Lodge No. 1389 and the Panama City BPO Elks Lodge No. 1598, VFW Post 2185 and the Parker Masonic Lodge No. 142. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marie; daughters, Tina Menna and husband Michael, Renata Harris and husband Frank; son, Charles E. Dotson Jr. (Chuck) and fiancee, Lisa Fitzsimons; nine grandchildren, Brad, Michael, Nicholas, Jeremy, Hailey, Frankie, Christina, Montanna and Joey, all of Panama City; sisters, Merle Newman of Jackson, Miss., Martha Farley and husband, Charles of Pearl, Miss., Cheryl Hannon and husband Phil of Jackson, Miss.; one brother, Pat Dotson of Crystal Springs, Miss.; several in-laws, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He was given special care by, Dr. Rodney Morris, Dr. Syed Mahmood, Dr. Bobbie Baker and Rita Spikes, Phyllis and Tommy of Hospice of the Emerald Coast. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Active pallbearers will be Ralph Spark, Charlie Hall, Jim Brooks, Ralph Lewis, T.J. Owens and Willard Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers and friends of the 1389 Moose Lodge, BPO Elks Lodge 1598 and Wandering Elks RV Club. Funeral services will be held today, April 3, at 11 a.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Those desiring to may make a donation to Hospice of the Emerald Coast in memory of Charles E. Dotson.

Mrs. Dolores Gerlecz, age 72, of Lynn Haven, passed away Friday, March 30, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a native of Sedalia, Mo., and had lived in Lynn Haven for 141/2 years. She was a member of The Rock Church. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Steven M. Gerlecz and wife Cheryl of Panama City and Dr. Joseph M. Gerlecz and wife Ellen of Lynn Haven; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mary Katharine, Joseph Mark Jr. and Sarah Beth; two brothers, Marvin F. Hanigan of Ponte Vedre, Fla., and Michael L. Hanigan of Andover, Mass. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, April 3, at The Rock Church with Apostle F. Nolan Ball officiating. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Jerry Mackey, Robert Staats, Stephen Melvin, Al Cobb, Charles Woods, Pastor Todd Muner and Steve Burdeshaw. Burial will take place Friday, April 6, in Sedalia, Mo. Mr. F.F. "Forbes" Nelson, 87, of Port St. Joe, Fla. died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Chipley, Fla., he moved to Port St. Joe in 1948 from DeFuniak Springs, Fla. He retired as a barber from Cooper Barber Shop and was a member of First Baptist Church of Port St. Joe. Mr. Nelson was a veteran of World War II while serving in the United States Army and over 50 years as a member of the Willis V. Rowan Post No. 116. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Mary Nelson and sister, Hazel Kent. Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Lucille Nelson of Port St. Joe; two sons, Glen Wayne Nelson of Panama City and Marshall Nelson and wife, Melody of Port St. Joe; two grandchildren, Bryce Nelson and Reis Nelson both of Port St. Joe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services for Mr. Nelson will be conducted Wednesday, April 4, at 11 a.m. EDT in Holly Hilly Cemetery with the Rev. Brent Vickery officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Margaret Belle Simpson, age 101, of Blountstown, died Thursday in Blountstown Health and Rehab Center. Mrs. Simpson was a native and lifelong resident of Blountstown and was owner and operator of Simpson Auto Parts until her retirement at age 92. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Blountstown. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Marie Simpson of Blountstown; one brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Blanch Halley of Tallahassee; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ollie Halley of Blountstown; three grandsons, Steve Simpson of Huntsville, Ala., Bill Simpson of Tallahassee; and David Simpson of Blountstown. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. CST at the First Baptist Church in Blountstown with the Rev. Tom Stallworth, the Rev. James Pelt and the Rev. Edgar Fuqua officiating. Interment will follow in Boggs Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m CDT at Adams Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials to First Baptist Church Memorial Funds.

Mrs. Joyce Grossman Brooks, age 73, a longtime resident of Bay County, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Louisville, Ky., after a long illness. She was born and raised in New Jersey and attended the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio. She served as president of B'nai Brith Women in Asbury Park, N.J., before moving to Bay County in 1965, where she and her family owned and operated Leon's clothing store. Joyce was also a longtime elementary school teacher, and taught English to new Americans for many years as well. She was active in Altrusa, the Democratic Women's Club, and was one of the founders of the Bay County Friends of the Library. In addition, she played violin for the Gulf Coast Community College Orchestra. She also performed many hours of volunteer work for Bay Medical Center's Women's Auxiliary. She is predeceased by her husband, Bertram Brooks. Survivors include two children, Barbara Waldrop of Louisville, and Ken Brooks of Panama City; two brothers, Stephen Grossman of West Deal, N.J., and Allen Grossman of Naples, Fla.; one sister, Marcia Rudoff of Brainbridge Island, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Lucy and Anna Waldrop of Louisville, and Ty Brooks of Panama City. Services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Southerland Family Funeral Home in Lynn Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund or Temple B'nai Isreal (P.O. Box 16556, Panama City, FL), or to the Summit Academy, 10508 Main Street, Louisville, KY 40245.

Carl E. Callahan, 69, of Panama City Beach, died Monday, April 2, 2001, in a local nursing home. Mr. Callahan was a native of North Carolina and had been living in Panama City Beach for several years. The family will receive friends at the home, 184 White Sandy Drive, Panama City Beach, today, April 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. The family request memorialization by cremation.

Mrs. Beatrice Johnson Hettick of Panama City died in her home Monday, April 2, 2001, at the age of 89. Mrs. Hettick was born March 27, 1912, in Horton, Kan. After growing up in the midwest she graduated from Missouri Western College with a degree in education in 1931. She moved to Panama City with her husband, Kennison Hettick and their family in 1949. Throughout her life, Mrs. Hettick was actively involved in her church, community and family; teaching school, singing in church choirs, serving in the Alter Society and participating in Kiwanianes. Mrs. Hettick is survived by one son, Edward K. Hettick Jr. of Tallahassee; four daughters, Joyce Rhea Paul of Denver, Colo., Jo Ann Samukawa of Panama City, Marcia Howe Michael of Atlanta and Susan Lynn Hettick of Panama City; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Gail Edwards. Family visitation will be held at Southerland Family Funeral Home Thursday, April 5, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. The rosary will be said at 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church on Friday, April 6, at 3 p.m. Donations may be made in Mrs. Hettick's memory to the Catholic Social Services.

Lillian Elizabeth Laird, the wife of Cubie R. Laird, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at her home in Wewahitchka. She was 82 years of age. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother and a good friend to all. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Cubie R. Laird; her son, Rodney P. Laird; granddaughter, Candi L. Rhodes; grandsons, Charles R. Laird Sr. and wife Brenda; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Terry Rhodes Jr. and Tiffany and Charles Laird Jr. She is also survived by two brothers, John T. Parish Jr., Stephen Parish and wife Sheila; two sisters, Avie Marie Meredith and husband John, and Carolyn Gilbert; also several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was an active member of the Wewahitchka Chapter 229 Order of the Eastern Star for 51 years and a member of Westside Baptist Church of Wewahitchka. The family will receive friends at the church from 4 to 6 p.m. CDT Wednesday, April 4. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. CDT, Thursday, April 5, at Westside Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas P. Doss officiating. Interment will follow in Jehu Cemetery in Wewahitchka.

Mr. Howard Mayfield, age 80, of 1105 Georgia Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area since 1988, coming here from Gardendale, Ala. Mr. Mayfield served his country with the Army Air Corps in World War II, serving with the 8th Air Force in England. He was the former owner of Mayfield Tire Co. in Birmingham, Ala. He was a member of North Bay Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening and any outdoor activity. He is survived by his wife, Clara Mayfield of Lynn Haven, Fla.; a son, Howard Thomas Mayfield and his wife Marie Christine of Parker; a daughter, Virginia Mayfield Smith and her husband Gregory of Leeds, Ala.; a brother, Thomas Leroy Mayfield of Bessemer, Ala.; a stepson, Jimmy Baker of Lynn Haven; four stepdaughters, Lucille Mullins of Brannonville, Fla., Ruth Barnes of Urial, Ala., Judy Siever of Coubern, Va., and Polly Phipps of Southport; and two grandchildren, Bryant Douglas Mayfield and Eileen Elizabeth Mayfield, both of Parker. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 5, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Danny Buckley, Matt Simmons, Cordell Henry, Hayes Wise, Alex Wise and Travis Langford.
