HENRY MINGE REED JR.
Mr. Henry Minge Reed Jr.,a native of Panama City, Fla., and a longtime resident of Mobile, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, after a short illness. Mr. Reed was born in Faunsdale, Ala., the son of the late Henry Minge Reed and Ilalla Knox Reed of Panama City. In 1939, Mr. Reed began a distinguished 44-year career with International Paper Company. Volunteering for service during World War II, Mr. Reed served in the Army Air Corps as a B-25 pilot where he attained the rank of major. Among his awards were the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. Following the war, Mr. Reed earned a BS degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University and then resumed his career with IP. Mr. Reed served the company in various engineering and management positions, including mill manager in Camden, Ark., and manager of manufacturing for the Southern Kraft Division. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Reed was director of technology and business development for International Paper Company, an assignment that carried him around the world, most notably to the Soviet Union and China. Upon his retirement, Mr. Reed continued his longstanding involvement in the Mobile community, serving with Kiwanis, the Small Business Administration and the Special Olympics. In recent years, Mr. Reed derived great pleasure from two of his favorite activities, fishing for speckled trout and volunteer work with Providence Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ruth Coleman Reed; and is survived by a daughter, Martha Reed Crow (Kenny) of Mobile; two sons, Henry Minge Reed III (Nonie) of Mobile and Marvin A. Reed (Catharine) of Wilson, N.C.; five grandchildren, Missy McEvoy, Alf Reed, Andrew Reed, Louise Crow and Kenny Crow. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home on Friday, April 6, 2001, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Providence Hospital Auxiliary. Funeral service for Mr. Joseph C. "J.C." Scalf, 66, of 510 David Ave., in Springfield, who was promoted to be with Jesus on Tuesday, April 3, will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 5, 2001, at Callaway Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Bobby Thompson and the Rev. Don Price officiating. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Bob Russell, Roger Melvin, Earl Sapp, Charles Henderson, Harold Weaver and Dr. Misal Khan. Honorary pallbearers will include Ray Beavers, Raburn French and Donald E. Price Jr .

HERBERT WILLIAM SILVERSTEIN
Dr. Herbert William Silverstein, 84, of 114 Treasure Palm Drive, Panama City Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at his home. He had been a resident of the area since 1984, coming here from Atlanta, Ga. Dr. Silverstein was a dentist who taught at Emory University for 11 years. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist, Atlanta Dental Society, Georgia Dental Society, ADA and Lambda Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Silverstein also served his country in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Betty Jane Silverstein of Panama City Beach; children, Ann Gray and her husband Roland of Silver Springs, Md., Dr. David R. Silverstein and his wife Judy of Franklin, N.C., Judy L. Shafer and her husband Edwin of Apison, Tenn., and Roger K. Silverstein of Cleveland, Tenn.; a sister Marion A. Meyers of Ellijay, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 6, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Peel and Pastor Scott Tyman officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Dr. Stanley Sterling, Chris Cox, Jim Padgett, Ed Shafer, Wayne Mashburn, John Hooks and John Day. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, April 5, from 6 until 8 p.m .

PATRICK HENRY BOWERS
The Rev. Patrick Henry Bowers, 57, of 708 E. 12th St., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and served as an assistant minister until his health failed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Verna Bowers; elder brother, Walter Fletcher Bowers; grandparents, Ben and wife Len Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Beulah Mae Bowers of Panama City; stepdaughter, Tammie Spencer of Panama City; three stepsons, Gerald Lambert of Colonia Height, Va., Evangelist James Jones and wife Linda of Panama City, and Charles Dawson of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Frances Hill and husband Earnest and Helen Scott both of West Palm Beach, Fla.; extended siblings: Pattie Mae Faison and husband Henry of Panama City, Viella Rouse, Florence Myers, James Myers and wife Pinky and Robert Myers and wife Lottie all of Wewahitchka; brothers-in-law; Elix Dawson of Pensacola, Tom Dawson of Daytona Beach, the Rev. Raymond Dudley of Grand Ridge; the Rev. Earnest Hill of West Palm Beach; and Henry Faison of Panama City; sisters-in-law, Mary Hearns of Panama City, Martha Quarles of Pensacola, Pennie Dudley and Lizzie Simpson both of Grand Ridge, and Marvell Myers of Wewakitchka; aunt, Eva Mae Long and husband Frank of Panama City; uncle Houston Smith of Orlando; grandparents, Deacon John Upshaw and wife Iola; godbrother, the Rev. Lemuel Glover all of Panama City; special cousin, the Rev. Eddie Roy Jackson and wife Bessie of Panama City; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, relatives and other friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Louis Lamar officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. BESSIE MAE PAGE CORBIN
Mrs. Bessie Mae Page Corbin of Southport passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Southport First Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Corbin is preceded in death by husbands John Page and Ivy Corbin; and one son, John David Page. She is survived by two sons, Eric C. Page and his wife Mary L. of Southport, and Russell H. Page and wife, Vivian of Southport; one daughter, Marie Page Richer of Lynn Haven; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. Funeral services for Mrs. Corbin will be conducted Saturday, April 7, at 10 a.m. in the Southport First Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow in the New Southport Cemetery. Mrs. Corbin's grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family headquarters will be at Mrs. Corbin's son's home at 2140 Hwy. 2321 in Southport.

Funeral services for Mr. Carl Givens Sr., 86, of 1615 Friendship Ave., who died Friday, March 30, will be held today, April 6, at 1 p.m. in St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1021 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, with the Rev. MABLE WRIGHT LUCAS
Mrs. Mable Louise Wright Lucas, 71, of 1411 Fortune Ave., Panama City, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 2, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. Born in Gantt, Ala., on March 16, 1930, Mrs. Lucas moved to Panama City in the early 1940s. Here she met the late Joel Lucas, and they were married on Dec. 12, 1944. Mrs. Lucas devoted her life to rearing her children and only worked outside of the home as a domestic when necessary. After her children were grown, she and her husband ran St. Andrews Seafood in historic St. Andrews together until his death in 1992. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Free Spirit Community Church with Pastor James Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church at 33706 E. 11th Street from 10 a.m. until service time. The family will receive relatives and friends at 1411 Fortune Avenue.

JEAN WALLER MOODY
Jean Waller Moody, 74, of 1311 Bayou Court died Tuesday night in her home. She was a lifelong resident of Bay County. Mrs. Moody graduated from Sullins College of Bristol, Va. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Junior Service League. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Moody Jr.; her parents, C.B. and Mary Lee Waller; a brother, Bill Waller; and a sister, Evelyn Stawchansky. She is survived by four children: Jane Moody Parker, James Russell Moody III and his wife Joyce, Corine Moody Kasler and her husband Jim, and William R. Moody and his wife Terri; eight grandchildren: Catherine Cox and her husband Joachim, Russell Dorch and his wife Dana, James Russell Moody IV (Jay) and his wife, Amy, John Moody, Ryan Kasler, Jacqueline Kasler, Kaitlynn Moody and Jason Moody; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Gayle Waller Smith; mother-in-law, Mrs. J.R. Moody Sr.; two sisters-in-law: Marie Waller Lee and her husband Robert and Mary Catherine Jinks and her husband Les; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dear friends Frank and Chung-Mui Wong, Rhoda Williams, John Henry Nix Moody and special thanks to her caregiver, Teresa Thorpe. Funeral services will be held today at l0 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley and Julian Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. RAYMOND D. BITTICK
Mr. Raymond D. Bittick, 81, died April 5, 2001, at his Callaway home after a long illness. He was born on September 18, 1919, to Paul B. Bittick and Sadie Ann (Haynes) Bittick in Joplin, Mo. An engineer by profession, Ray worked with many large businesses in the Midwest, such as Boeing Aircraft, Milnot, Mutual Boiler Insurance Company, Automatic Electric Company and Southern Illinois University before retiring to Panama City in 1972, where he was the co-owner of Paradise Park. An avid craftsman, he rebuilt several classic wooden cruisers to enjoy with his family on the local bays. As a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, he helped establish several model airplane clubs, and built and flew scale model aircraft until 1998. He was a former member of both the St. Andrew Bay Power Squadron and the Emerald Coast Giant Scalers Model Aircraft Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Milton Bittick and Paul B. Bittick, Jr.; and his daughter, Kelly Rae Johns. Mr. Bittick is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Claudia Bittick of Panama City, Fla.; two sons, David M. Bittick, and wife Mary Beth of Panama City and Gene M. Bittick, and wife Jill of Sunnyside, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 8 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Hill officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's memory to the Hospice of the Emerald Coast or to the Bay County Special Olympics. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today, April 7 .

ZOLA MAE DUNN
Mrs. Zola Mae Dunn, "The Lord shall give the rest from thy sorrows and thy fears," Isiah 14:3, died Monday, April 2, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Opelika, Ala., she moved to Port St. Joe in the early fifties. She was a member of the Zion Fair Baptist Church. Mrs. Dunn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dunn. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Boykins and husband, Robert of Port St. Joe; four sons, Jewell Dunn and Michael Dunn of Port St. Joe, Lorenzo Dunn of Tampa, Fla., and Willie Lee Dunn of Louisville Ky.; three granddaughters, Sharon Boykins and Sheila Boykins of Atlanta, Ga., and Dyshanda Boykins of Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Lena Johnson of Selma, Ala.; one brother, George Summers Jr. of Tuskegee, Ala., and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Dunn will be conducted today, April 7, at 1 p.m. EST in the Zion Fair Baptist Church with the Rev. Marty Brown officiating. Active pallbearers will be Taylor Jenkins, Tony Larry, Tana Smiley, Ernst Gant, Allen Roger and Willie Thomas.
