Jason Sundance Smith, 23, of Chipley, passed away Friday, May 18, 2001, as a result of an automobile accident. He was a lifelong resident of Chipley. He was Protestant by faith. He graduated from Chipley High School in 1996 where he was an honor student. He attended Chipola Junior College in Marianna. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Wachob Chapel in Chipley with the Rev. James Vickery and the Rev. Mark Budd officiating. Burial will follow in the Wachob-Forest Lawn Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 21, 2001, at the Wachob Chapel. Survivors are father, Cecil Smith and wife, Sherry, of Chipley; mother, Sharon Dilmore and husband, James, of Chipley; two brothers, Casey Smith and Fletcher Dilmore, both of Chipley; one sister, Cynthia Lynn Smith, of Chipley; maternal grandmother, Sarah Rudd of Cottondale; maternal grandfather, John and wife, Helen Rudd, of Marianna; maternal great-grandfather, Thomas E. Owens, of Panama City; and paternal grandmother, Dorothy H. Smith, of Chipley. Those asked to serve as active pallbearers are Tony Simmons, David Greer, Billy Wright, Austin Smith, Mark Rudd, Jim Rudd, Michael Rudd, Dusty Rudd and Jarrod Smith.

GEORGE ALVIN SOWELL
Funeral services for Mr. George Alvin Sowell, 83, of Bay County, who passed away Saturday, May 19, 2001, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 21, 2001, at the West Bay Community Church with the Rev. Leon Jenkens, the Rev. J.L. McGarity, and the Rev. Joby Kirkland officiating. Interment will follow at the West Bay Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Mr. Sowells grandsons, Bobby Callahan, Brent Callahan, Deck Sowell, Joey Sowell, Scotty Sowell, Jon Sowell and Steve Parson.

EVELYN TURNER
Evelyn Turner, of Panama City, Fla., received a permanent change of duty station orders on May 10, 2001, to report to the Supreme Commander, with no delay enroute. She had served at this earthly station for 78 years, 56 years of which was spent with mate and husband, Barron R. Turner. Others left at this station included two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. A change of duty ceremony will be held at LAFRA, Branch 346 on Wilkerson Ave., Panama City Beach at 1900 hours (7 p.m.) 23 May 2001. Signed X.O. J.C

Mr. Robert "Speedy" Williams Jr., 47, of 672 McKenzie Ave., died Monday, May 14, at his home. Memorial services for Mr. Williams will be held today, May 21, at 1 p.m. in the Battle Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Lonnie Mitchell, officiating.

VIVIAN ELIZABETH FREEMAN BELL
Mrs. Vivian Elizabeth Freeman Bell, 92, of Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday morning, May 22, 2001, at Bay Crest Nursing Home. Born in Hamlet, N.C., she moved to Panama City in 1950 from Chipley, Fla. She was twice retired from The News Herald. Mrs. Bell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City and the L.L.L. Adult 5 Sunday School class. She was a charter member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a charter member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and was also a member of the Dames of the Magna Carta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Judson Bell Sr.; and two children, Jean Paul Bell and Gordon Worth Bell. Mrs. Bell is survived by five sons, Tom Bell and wife Becky of Lynn Haven, Fla., Paul Bell Jr. and wife Leah of New York City, N.Y., Jerry Bell and wife Jennifer of Tallahassee, Eddie Bell and wife Joy of Panama City and John Bell and wife Barbara of Panama City; three daughters, Virginia Campbell of Tallahassee, Nancy Holland and husband Bill of Molino, Fla., and Martha Patterson and husband Don of Panama City; 27 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 25, at 2 p.m in Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wade H. Bell Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Bell's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida in memory of Mrs. Bell. The family will be staying at the home of Martha Patterson, 815 Mallory Ave., Panama City, Fla. The family would like to express a special thanks to Bay Crest Nursing Center and Hospice of Northwest Florida for their special care.

DANIEL 'DAN' PONDER SR.
Mr. Daniel "Dan" Ponder Sr., age 71, of 322 Lakepoint Road, Compass Lake, Fla., died Monday, May 21, 2001, at his home. He was born in Opelika, Ala., and was a resident of Cottonwood, Ala., for 30 years. Mr. Ponder was the president of Beall Peanut Co. before retiring and moving to Panama City in 1984. He spent the last three years as a resident of Compass Lake. Mr. Ponder enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling on their boat The Why Knot. He also loved his grandchildren. Mr. Ponder served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church in Panama City. He was also a past member of Bay Point Yacht Club and past president of Krewe of Dominique Youx. Mr. Ponder is survived by his wife, Josephine Ponder of Compass Lake; two sons, Daniel "Dan" E. Ponder Jr. and his wife Mary Lou and Ernest Ponder and his wife Karen, all of Donalsonville, Ga.; a daughter, Josephine Hasler and her husband Jim of Roswell, Ga.; a sister, Mary Hunta Owens of Auburn, Ala.; grandsons, Stephen Hasler of Roswell, Ga., and Davis Ponder of Donalsonville; granddaughters, Catherine and Elizabeth Ponder and Bailey and Addison Ponder, all of Donalsonville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at First Baptist Church of Cottonwood with the Rev. Lattie Collins and the Rev. Ron Ball officiating. Interment will follow at Cottonwood City Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are, Dewey Cameron, Larry Smith, Bob Buch, Dennis Sculley, Ferelle Wood and Robert Ham Honorary pallbearers will include Johnny Beauchamp, Pete Albright, Bill Ward, Buren Wells and Fletcher Barnes, and the "Romeo Golf Group" (Retired Old Men Enjoying Ourselves). Orval M. Reynolds
The Rev. Orval M. Reynolds, 96, of Panama City, died Monday, May 21, 2001, in a Panama City hospital after a long illness. He was born on Dec. 13, 1904, in Lineville, Ala. He was the oldest of eight children. The Rev. Reynolds was a retired minister having last served at the Howards Creek Baptist Mission. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Reynolds. He is survived by three children, Preston Reynolds of Montgomery, Abijah Williams of Panama City and Joy Houle of Melbourne, Fla.; two sisters, Louise Howard McMeans, Pearl King; brother, J.D. Reynolds; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Carlisle Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Kuhn and the Rev. Kelly Dixson officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Cemetery, Port St. Joe. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mr. Daniel Thompson, age 18, of Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 19, 2001, at a local hosptial. He was a native of Charleston, S.C., and had lived in Panama City Beach for three years, moving here from Kansas City, Mo. He was Baptist by faith. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Melissa Thompson of Panama City Beach; his mother, Amy Burbaugh of Fort Myers, Fla.; father, Allan Ray Thompson of Charleston, S.C.; twin brother, Denver Thompson of Fort Myers; a brother, Charles Dome of Kansas City; a sister, Ila Henderson of Atlanta, Ga.; maternal grandfather, Merle Burbaugh of Polk, Mo.; paternal grandmother, Vonnie Clenney of Hollywood, S.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 24 at Kent-Forest Lawn Fuenral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Shoots officiaitng. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, May 23, from 6 to 8 p.m.

JANET KATHERINE WEHLING
Janet Katherine Wehling, 39, of Panama City, Fla., passed away on May 18, 2001. She was born on Oct. 25, 1961, and was the beloved daughter of Harry and Joanne Wehling, Sister Bay, Wis. Janet is survived by her parents; a brother, John (Linda) Wehling; her beloved companion, Dane Lutz; and special friends, Valerie Lutz and Diane Pospisil. Other survivors include a niece, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends in Door County, Wis., and Panama City. Memorial services will be held in Panama City and at St. Rosalias Catholic Church in Sister Bay at a later date.
