THELMA EUNICE SCOON
Thelma Eunice Scoon, 69, of Locust Grove, Va., died Monday, May 28, 2001. Survivors are her husband, Casimir Edgar Scoon; three daughters, Cecile Marie Scoon of Panama City, Lydia Megan Scoon Rogers of Virginia, Valerie Scoon of California; a son, Dr. Malcolm Scoon of New York; two sisters, Esther Fitzgerald of Virginia and Gladys Hamilton of Maryland; and three grandchildren, Casimir, Sahara and Marley Peters, all of Panama City. Funeral services and burial were held Saturday, June 2, in Virginia. A memorial service for her Panama City friends will be held on Tuesday, June 5, at 6 p.m., at Battle Memorial Funeral Home, 1123 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

MICHAEL THOMAS SKORIAK
Captain Michael Thomas Skoriak, age 55, of 227 Eagle Dr., Panama City Beach, Fla., died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at a local hospital. He has been a resident of the area since 1978, moving here from Long Island, N.Y. Capt. Skoriak was the fire captain of the Panama City Beach Fire Department. He recently graduated from Gulf Coast Community College with honors. Captain Skoriak was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Hempstead, New York Exempt Association. He is survived by his wife, Diane Skoriak of Panama City Beach; his daughters, Michele Skoriak of Panama City, Fla., and Alison Chisolm and husband, John David of Panama City Beach; his mother, Claire Skoriak of Panama City Beach; a brother, John Skoriak and wife, Mari of Sausalito, Calif.; granddaughters, Ann Marie and Lauren Holland, both of Panama City Beach; and all of his in-laws, the entire Daly family, who he was very close to. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Skoriak and a brother, Peter Skoriak. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, June 4, 2001, at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Marty Bratek officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Carl Stockton, Lt. Joe Cocco, Rick Lamarre, John Vann, Lt. Todd Heath, Lt. David Jordan, and Steve Miller. Honorary pallbearers will include: Officers and members of the Panama City Beach Fire Department. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, today, June 3, 2001, from 3 to 5 p.m., and then again from 7 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary Service to be held at 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Gulf Coast Community College Foundation, 5230 W. Highway 98, Panama City, Fla. 32401.

DONALD A. ANDREWS
Donald A. Andrews, 70, of Fountain, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in a local nursing home. Mr. Andrews was a native of Buffalo, N.Y., but resided in Bay County for the last several years. Mr. Andrews retired as an electric engineer after many years with the civil service at Tyndall Air Force Base. The family requests memorialization by cremation.

EARL PHILLIP COOLEY
Earl Phillip Cooley, 79, of Panama City, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, in his home. He was born in Jackson County and moved to Panama City from Fort Walton in 1963. He worked with the Panama Christian School System in the early years of its beginning. He was employed in Electronic Service industry for several years and faithfully taught children bible classes for many years. He was presently a member of Grace Baptist Church. He served with the U.S. Army 7th Infantry Division in World War II and Korea where he received the following awards and decorations, Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze stars, Korean Service, American Defense, United Nations Medals and others. He also served in the U.S. Air Force weather services in Europe and Japan before retiring from the Air Force in 1962. He is survived by his wife, Margie Cooley; two daughters, Rhonda Neese and her husband, Wilford, Joy Brittain and her husband, Henry; two sons, Mitchell Cooley and his wife, Debbie, all of Panama City, Mark Cooley and his wife, Esther of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren, Cynthia Neese, Scott Neese, both of Tallahassee, Melody Pollard, Charity Cooley, John Mark Cooley, all of Pensacola, Jessica Brittain of Panama City; two stepgrandchildren, Ashley Cooley, of Panama City, Eric Cooley of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Cooley and the Rev. Eddie Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Those desiring to, may make a contribution to Hospice of Northwest Florida in memory of Mr. Cooley.

GLORIA HOPE PEEVEY
Mrs. Gloria Hope Peevey, 74, of Fountain, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Jackson Hospital in Marianna. Mrs. Peevey was born in Tampa and was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Elbert Marion Peevey, of Fountain; two sons, Michael Steven Peevey of Sacramento, Calif.; Paul Allen Peevey of Fort Lauderdale; one daughter, Linda Anne Peevey of Fountain; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. CDT in the Chapel of Adams Funeral Home of Altha with the Rev. Bill Plazarin officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at the home of Linda Peevey, 13542 Betts Road in Fountain at any time.

WILLIAM D. 'BILL' UNDERWOOD
Mr. William D. (Bill) Underwood, 73, of Mexico Beach passed away Saturday, June 2, 2001, at his home. He was a resident of Jasper, Ala., until moving here in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division and the U.S. Air Force, discharged as S.SGT. Mr. Underwood was a supervisor with Alabama Power until his retirement, and was of the Methodist faith. A life member of J.C. Gainous Post 10069 VFW, he was also an active radio operator, known throughout the world under call sign WB4 SQN. Survivors include two sons, Kyle Underwood of Warrior, Ala., and Keith (Pam) Underwood of Sumiton, Ala.; one daughter, Kimberly Underwood (Andy) Grace of Warrior, Ala.; former wife and best friend, Ann Griffin of Panama City; six grandchildren; one sister, Levanna Sovey of Chicago Park, Calif.,; and two brothers, Charles Ray Underwood of Jasper, Ala., and Jackie Underwood of Good Springs, Ala. He will lie in state at Comforter Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT (5 to 7 CDT). A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. EDT (2 p.m. CDT) Tuesday at J.C. Gainous Post 10069 VFW, 1774 Trout Ave., in Highland View. Those that wish, may make contributions to J.C. Gainous Post 10069 VFW.

LYNN BENTLEY JR.
Deacon Lynn Bentley Jr., 63, of 205 Lannie Rowe, Callaway passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2001, at his home. Deacon Lynn Bentley Jr. was born in Thomson, Ga., on Sept. 14, 1937, to Lynn and Ruby Bentley Sr. Deacon Bentley was a member of the Family of God Baptist Church, Panama City, where he faithfully served on the Deacon Board, The Stewardship Committee, and the Usher Board. He was head of the Benevolence Committee, The Brotherhood, and a Sunday school teacher. CMSGT Bentley enlisted in the USAF in 1955. After 30 years of dedicated military service, CMSGT Bentley retired in Panama City. During his military tenure, he received numerous awards, including The Legion of Merit. Deacon Bentley was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Ruby Bentley Sr.; his brother, William Bentley Sr.; and grandson, Nicholas Graves. In loving memory he will be cherished by his beloved wife, Rena M. Bentley. During their 45 years of marriage, they were blessed with four daughters and one son, Stephanie Virgin, Riverdale, Ga.; Lynda (Thomas) Graves, Saudi Arabia; Jennifer Ross, Jonesboro, Ga.; Lynn (Marcia) Bentley III, Omaha, Neb.; Angeleen (Jeffrey) Bing, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. He leaves behind 10 loving grandchildren, Chantel, James, Brandi, Jessica, Raven, Tina, Vincent, Lenda, Jeffrey, Makayla; and one great-grandchild, Rena. Deacon Bentley laves to mourn four sisters and two brothers, Helen Smith, Augusta, Ga.; Betty McNeal, Thomson, Ga., Harvey (Elsie) Bentley, Goldsboro, N.C.; Jacob (Melinda) Bentley, Tampa, Fla.; Joyce (Herman) Cowins, Thomason, Ga.; Mary (Herbert) West, Columbia, Md.; one aunt, one uncle, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Deacon Bentley will be held Wednesday, June 6, at 2 p.m. in Family of God Baptist Church with Pastor Butler, officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery with full military honors by Tyndall AFB Honor Guard. Public visitation will begin this afternoon at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at the home of his wife, Mrs. Rena M. Bentley of 205 Lannie Rowe, Callaway.

MRS. ZAINAB ELZAWAHRY
In loving memory. . . Although she lived thousands of miles away from some of her children and grandchildren, she was close to all our hearts. Mrs. Zainab Elzawahry died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at her home in Cairo, Egypt. During her 77 years, she was a dedicated wife, married for almost 30 years to the Late Dr. Hasan Elzawahry, Professor of Literature in Egypt. Her motherly love and dedication to 15 children shone through in all their successes. Their lives as professors, physicians, dentists and engineers were testaments to her brilliant upbringing. She is survived by her sons in Panama City: Kamal Zawahry, MD, pulmonary specialist; Kamel Elzawahry, MD, neurologist; Tarek Elzawahry, DMD; and Tamam Elzawahry, DMD, general dentists. Her sons overseas include: Karam, PhD, Professor of Geochemistry in Egypt; the Late Kashif, mechanical engineer; Kazem, PhD, Professor of Literature in Saudi Arabia; Mohamed, MD; and Ziad, MD, pediatricians in United Arab Emirates; Riad, DMD, PhD, Professor of Dentistry in Egypt; Rafie, pharmacist in Egypt. Her daughters include: Kawkab, MS, clinical biochemist in Egypt; Bushra, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Physiology in Egypt; Hoda, MD, dermatologist in Saudi Arabia; and Salwa, homemaker in Egypt. She is survived by sons-in-law, including: Abdul Aziz Gomaa, PhD, Professor of Chemistry; Professor Mahmood Shams, MD, PhD; Mohamed Kamal Eldeeb, architect; Marwan Tawakul, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of ENT, Egypt. Her daughters-in-law include: Zenab Zawahry, Panama City; Joan Elzawahry, MD, anesthesiologist in Panama City; Alia, PhD, Assistant Professor of Literature, Saudi Arabia; Azza, teacher in Egypt; Amal, homemaker; Ragia, MD, PhD, pediatrician; Hanan, Business Director, Panama City; Ghada, homemaker, Egypt; Arzu, DMD, general dentist in Panama City. Some of her 48 grandchildren include: Hosam Zawahry, attorney at law in Panama City; Iman Zawahry, University of FL student; Heather Zawahry, MD, family practice resident, TMH; Sahar, homemaker; Hoda and Heba, medical students. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bay County Islamic Society of Panama City, Florida.
