Clay Lister Cox, 60, of 115 Lister Drive, Wewahitchka, Fla., died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at his residence. Born in Panama City, Fla., Mr. Cox lived most of his life in Wewahitchka. He was a former counselor for Vocational Rehabilitation, and had been self-employed in Panama City Beach for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wewahitchka. He was preceded in death by his father, Carlos Cox. Survivors include his mother, Eddie Bell White; and stepfather Larry White; his children, Donnie Cox, Gary Cox and wife Stacy, Tanja Cox Oliver and husband Timothy, all of Wewahitchka; two grandchildren, Chase Cox and Kane Cox; two stepgrandchildren, Dustin and Chase Beatty; stepmother, Louise Cox of Southport; two half-sisters, Rita Kay of Southport and Lynette Cox of Panama City; and a nephew, Jason Cox of Southport. Active pallbearers will be his cousins, Claude Lister Jr., Mike Lister, Floyd Lister Jr., Benny Lister, Roy Lister, Jack Husband, John Husband and Brace Husband. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. CDT Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Harry Johnson and the Rev. William Parsons. Interment will follow in Jehu Cemetery. He will lie in state at his home, 115 Lister Drive, beginning at 6 p.m. today, and for one hour at the church prior to the funeral services.

CATHERINE ROWAN POWER CRAWFORD
Catherine Rowan Power Crawford, age 78, of 171 Byrd Drive, Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 7, 2001. Catherine was born on Nov. 13, 1922, in New York City, N.Y., and lived in the New York-New Jersey area until January 1972, moving from Saddle Brook, N.J., to Port St. Joe, Fla., where she was the owner-operator, along with her husband, of the Gulf Sands Motel on St. Joe Beach. Funeral services will be conducted today, June 11, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the St. Dominic's Catholic church with the Rev. William A. Crowe officiating. Catherine will be returned to New Jersey for her final rest.

HATTIE PEARL COPELAND DIX
Mrs. Hattie Pearl Copeland Dix, 88, of 1207 Hamilton Ave., in Panama City, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2001. A native of Hartford, Ala., she had been a resident of this area for more than 55 years. She attended the public schools in Alabama and she was a member of the St. John Baptist Church where she rendered faithful service until a few years ago. She served in the Sunday school, senior mission, The Golden Age Membership Club and in other church functions. She is survived by two sons, Lucious Paul Dix and his wife Bivian of Reno, Nev., and Billy Dix and his wife Sharon of Tampa; eight daughters, Geraldine Dix and Earnestine Dix of the Bronx, N.Y., Gloria Oliver and her husband Odis of Inglewood, Calif., Annie Lois Bellamy and her husband Thomas of Valdosta, Ga., Bertha Gilkey and her husband Max of Topeka, Kan., Betty Lightfoot and her husband Leroy of Los Angeles, Calif., Deborah Pierce and her husband Louis of Cocoa, Fla., and Kathy Cooper and her husband David of Texarkana, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four sisters-in-law; a special niece, Katie Jones and her husband Roy of Panama City; caring and helpful neighbors, the World and Duncan families; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service for Mrs. Dix will be held Tuesday, June 12, at 11 a.m. in the St. John Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Delwynn Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will begin at the funeral home today from 1 to 8 p.m. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church. The family will receive friends at 1207 Hamilton Ave.

Truman D. Flournoy, 75, of Springfield, Fla., died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at his residence. Born in Elmore County, Alabama he moved to Springfield in 1968. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Grover Cleveland "Pee Wee" Maddox, 96, of Panama City, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at a local health facility. Born in Jackson City, Fla. He moved here 59 years ago. He then opened Pee Wee's oyster and raw bar in St. Andrews. Pee Wee was Protestant in faith. He is predeceased by his wife, Alice LuGenia Maddox and two sons. He is survived by four daughters, Bertha M. O'Carroll of Lynn Haven, Juanita Hough of Webb City, Mo., Ellen Grant of Panama City and Ruby Cantrell of Hurst, Texas; one brother, Sylvester Maddox of Venice, Fla.; one sister, Louise Cobb of Panama City; daughter-in-law, Joyce Maddox; sister-in-law; Pansy Maddox, both of Panama City; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will at Greenwood Cemetery. Catherine Braxton, 85, of Pensacola, Fla., formerly of Chipley, Fla., passed from this life on Saturday, June 9, 2001, in Pensacola. She was Methodist by faith and a member of First United Methodist Church in Chipley. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 13, at 10:30 a.m. in First United Methodist Church, Chipley, with Dr. John Dickinson and the Rev. Lee Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Chipley with Brown Funeral Home directing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel (Span) W. Braxton. Survivors include one son, Ben Braxton and wife Marilyn of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Becky Clem and husband Dick of Tallahassee, Mary Ann Jordan of Pensacola; one sister, Ernestine Williams of Panama City; and six grandchildren.

GEORGE WASHINGTON EDWARDS
George Washington Edwards, born on the July 4, 1921, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at his home. He is finally at peace. He labored long and hard these last six years since his wife, Elizabeth, died in 1995. He was above all a real trooper. A MSGT with 22 years in the U.S. Army, four years in the Pacific in World War II and two years during the Korean Conflict. He survived two wars without a broken bone only to have old age finally bring him down. He was always civil, polite and caring. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Debbie Edwards; daughter and son-in-law, Georgette and Jim Beller; his only grandchild, Cybil Elizabeth Askew; his brother, Wilmont Pete Edwards; his sister, Helen Hinson; and "Snoopy," his beloved canine companion. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, at 2 p.m. in St. Thomas by the Sea with the Rev. Chuck Floyd officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with full military rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

SEARLE 'SY' VINCENT GRAY
Mr. Searle "Sy" Vincent Gray, 84, of 1007 Virginia Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at his home. Born in Michigan, he moved here 35 years ago from Battle Creek, Mich. He was a retired sheet metal worker and was Protestant by faith. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy Seabee Division. Mr. Gray is survived by his wife, Mrs. Floy Gray of Lynn Haven, Fla.; three daughters, Susan Rizzo of Crawfordville, Fla., Sharon Blackman of Bayou George, Fla., and Sarah Smith of Lynn Haven, Fla.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at 3 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. before the funeral service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Mary Morel, age 65 of Lynn Haven, Fla., passed away Friday, June 8, 2001, will be held at 3 p.m. today, June 12, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Wesley Toncre officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are David Wise, Adam Drysdale, Fred Pierson, Jason McKeithen, Cecil Wood and Robert Sheffield. Jewell Elizabeth Harmon Powell, 87, passed way at her daughter's home on June 11, 2001. She was born on Feb. 2, 1914, in Pansey, Ala. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Parker Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray (Jim) Powell Sr.; seven brothers and a sister; a daughter, Virginia Powell Spikes; and a son, James Roy Powell Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Eva Shoemaker and her husband, Floyd of Southport, Marquerite Kirksey of Cottonwood, Ala.; a son, Charles Jeffcoat of Parker; a granddaughter, Crystal Shoemaker; grandson, Danny Jeffcoat; granddaughters, Jenet Greene, Brenda Schlosser, Sandy Taunton; grandson, Allen Spikes; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all of her loved ones family and friends. Funeral arrangments will be announced later. Special thanks to the staff of Bay Crest Nursing Center and National Heathcare nurses for their care and devotion.
