CHARLES LAMAR 'SAM' GRANT
Funeral services for Charles Lamar (Sam) Grant, 72, of 1919 Monroe Ave., Panama City, who died Saturday, July 16, 2001, will be held today at 10 a.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Harrison and the Rev. Iban Beach officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the American Heart Association in memory of Sam Grant. Active pallbearers are Billy Eaton, David Gilmore, Darren Ducharme, Jason Henry, John Gayeski, Bill Atkinson. Honorary pallbearers are Travis Kiser, Hal Coggins, Bob Myers, Boe Simpson, Jimmy Hewitt, Mark Elliott, Jim Hardin and Tonya Barrow.

JAMES WILLIAM KNISELY
Col. James William Knisely, 85, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001. He was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, and attended the University of Toledo. Col. Knisely served n the U.S. Air Force since 1941, retiring in June of 1968. During his years of service he was stationed in Okinawa, Korea, Alaska and several bases in the continental United States. He participated in 50 combat missions over Korea as a senior command pilot. Some of the airplanes he piloted were the P51, T33, F86 and the F101. Among his many awards are the Bronze Star and Air Medal for exceptional duty in Korea. Other awards to his credit are the Air Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Occupation Medal in Japan, United Services Medal, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Legion of Merit. He was commander of the 792nd AC&W Squadron in Charleston, S.C., as well as commander of Tyndall NORAD Control Center. He also served with NORAD National Headquarters at Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs, Colo. Col. Knisely retired in 1968 and returned to Panama City where he had been stationed at Tyndall A.F.B. on two different occasions. He was a member of the Callaway United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, "L.E." Knisely of Callaway; a son, James W. Knisely Jr. and wife Susan; grandson, Bert and granddaughter, Brooke of Thomasville, Ga.; a daughter, Natalie Thompson and husband James of Callaway; grandson, Brian and two great-grandsons, Corey and Kevin of Lake Zurich, Ill.; granddaughter, Cynthia and three great-grandchildren, Christian, Celeste and Ian of Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Melanie and three great-grandchildren, Kelsi, Kirt and Kyle of Orem, Utah; grandson, C.J.; and great-granddaughter, Hannah, of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandson, Eric; and great-grandson, Jacob, of Draper, Utah; daughter, Diane Northcutt and grandson, James of Arlington and Denton, Texas; a daughter, Carolyn Beach and husband Richard of Tallahassee; two granddaughters, Kimberly of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Kathryn of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Minda Maynard and husband Ronnie; grandson, James of Commerce, Texas; a daughter, Cindy Gaskins and husband Clayton of St. George, S.C.; grandsons, Clayton and two granddaughters, Amanda and Alicia of Somerville, S.C. His parents, Charles Lease Knisely and Marie Elzina Davies; and a son, Charles Bryan Knisely, precede him in death. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 21, at 10 a.m. in Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jack Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories. Full military honors will be accorded at graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

DAVID M. RUSS
Mr. David M. Russ, 43, of Panama City, Fla., died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Orlando, Fla., he moved here 15 years ago from Orlando. He was self-employed as a general laborer. David was a Christian person who believed in the Lord. He was a gentle person who dearly beloved being with his nieces, nephews and other family members. Mr. Russ is survived by his father, A.L. Russ and stepmother, Carolyn Russ; one brother, Carlton B. Russ; four sisters, Donna R. Kelly, Brenda G. Gardiner, Lee Ann Grice and husband Miles all of Panama City, Mary A. Burrows and husband Leonard of Mobile, Ala. A memorial service will be held today, June 19, at 2 p.m. in Springfield Community Church with the Rev. Carl Curti and the Rev. Mike Cromer officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children' s Miracle Network or to a children's charity of your choice in David's name.

RANDALL DALTON HODGES
Mr. Randall Dalton Hodges, age 83, of Lynn Haven, Fla., died Monday, June 18, 2001, in a local hospital. Mr. Hodges is survived by his loving wife, Eva Hodges; son, Steven Hodges; daughter-in-law, Linda Hodges; granddaughter, Stephanie Michelle Hodges; stepgrandson, Steve Cox and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Lynn Haven from 10 a.m to noon today.

VERA PAULINE MCCURDY
Vera Pauline McCurdy, of Panama City, died Monday, June 18, 2001, in a local nursing home. She had been a resident of Panama City since 1959, moving here from Chattanooga, Tenn. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur McCurdy. She is survived by a daughter, Orlane Cato; two granddaughters, Beth Dysvik and her husband, Bill and Marty Cato; two great-grandchildren, Eric Dysvik, Jennifer Dysvik, all of Lynn Haven; and a sister, Edna Ambrester of Gadsden, Ala. Graveside funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Chuck Floyd officiating.

A.D. "Addie" Mercer, age 84, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Panama City. Ms. Mercer was born Dec. 24, 1916, in Samson, Ala. She was the daughter of the late Deb and Odie Carpenter Thorne. She was a lifelong resident of Red Bay, Fla., and a member of Red Bay Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, John B. Mercer; daughter, Janie McCormick; and brother, Mack Thorne. Survivors include her son, Wayne Mercer and wife, Ovaleen of Panama City Beach; brother, Buster Thorne of Red Bay; four grandchildren, Becky Laird and husband Wyndol of Glendale, Fla., Ray McCormick and wife Cheryl of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Paula Jaillet and husband Paul of St. Augustine and Robert McCormick and wife Sonya of Red Bay; seven great-granchildren and one great-great grandchild. A time of visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at Red Bay Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at Red Bay Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike McVay officiating. Burial will follow in Red Bay Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josh Rushing, Jeremy Carter, Steven Laird, John Laird, Paul McCormick and Jeremy McVay.

Mrs. Marie Ferguson, 84, of Panama City Beach, Fla., died Friday, June 15, 2001, at her home. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he was Catholic by faith. Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her husband Earl Ferguson; one son, James Dolan; two daughters, Barbara King and Donna Kinsella and husband William of Panama City Beach; five grandchildren, Jennifer Eanes and husband Michael, Christopher Consorte, Paula Hamm, Misty Tucker, Walter Kinsella and Dawn Perron; seven great-grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church at a later time.

Mr. J.C. Merchant, 67, of St. Andrews died Tuesday, June 19, 2001. He was born in Panama City and was a lifelong resident. He passed away peacefully in his sleep in the house that he grew up in. He was born and raised in Panama City and graduated from Bay High School. He proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly Jean Merchant; father, Jasper Merchant; sisters, Bernice Rogers and husband Sonny, Eunice Ramsey and husband Win, He is survived by his mother, Cora B. Merchant; brother, Maurice Merchant and wife Clare of Panama City; his children, Lisa Merchant-Darley and husband Robert of Panama City Beach, Jerry and Donna Merchant of Garden Grove, Calif., Mike and Polly Merchant of Anaheim, Calif., Jackie and Cliff Coolbaugh of Anaheim, Calif., Becky Merchant and Tom Wright of Garden Grove, Calif., Sharon Roth of Sun City, Calif., Cindy Merchant of Oregon; many grandchildren: Sandra Mitchel, John Michael Merchant, Chrissi Coolbaugh, Brandi Merchant, Ashley Merchant, Tom Wright, John Roth, Jeff Roth, Matthew Rasmussen, Tashauna Rasmussen, Brad Rasmussen and Justin Rasnussen and many great grandchildren. There will be no services held locally and graveside services will be held in the Westminister Memorial Park, Westminister, Calif., at a later date.
