Mr. Lester Brown, 74, of 107 Detroit Ave. died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001 in a local hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held today, Sept. 1 at 3:30 p.m. in Second Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry Harper officiating. Interment to follow in Redwood Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church today from ll a.m. until service time. The family will receive relatives and friends at 107 Detroit Ave. Springfield.

TERESA 'MIKI' CRUTCHFIELD
Mrs. Teresa "Miki" Crutchfield, age 75, 5628 Enzor St., Panama City, Fla., passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at her home. She had been a resident of the area for 45 years and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. Mrs. Crutchfield had worked as a floral designer for One Stop Florist. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Crutchfield and her husband, Joe Landry of Woodbridge, Va.; a stepdaughter, Gayle Young and her husband, Joe of Fort Collins, Co.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jon; sisters, Sachiko Someya and Yoshiko Tsumuro, both of Japan; and a brother, Yoshinori Yamamoto also of Japan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 1, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Everage officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Springfield Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice in Mrs. Crutchfield's name.

Mrs. Noami Ford, 73, of 711 Elm Ave., died Wednesday, Aug. 22, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Ford will be held today, Sept. 1, at noon in the Greater Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. James Youmas officiating. Interment will follow in the Redwood Cemetery. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at 724 Elm Ave.

Mrs. Clyde P. Foster, 74, of 1208 Louisiana Ave. died Wednesday Aug. 29, 2001, in a local hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Foster will be held today, Sept. 1, at 12:30 p.m. in Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Joe McCallister officiating. Internment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church today from 9 a.m. until service time. WALTER 'PETE' MAGNESS JR.
Walter "Pete" Magness Jr., 81, of 3016 Ten Acre Road, Panama City, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, in his home. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1952. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was a retired owner and operator of Pete's Service Company. Mr. Magness was a member of The Rock and a former member of the Full Gospel Businessman Fellowship. He is survived by his wife, Lois Hall Magness of Panama City; daughter, Barbara Dupreast and her husband, Sam of Enterprise, Ala.; granddaughter, Pamela Erickson and her husband, Scott of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandson, Samuel Richard Dupreast of Enterprise; two great-granddaughters, Ashley Dunivant and Erica Dunivant of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Louverne Barron of Panama City Beach, Betty McAdams and her husband, Curtis of Graceville; brother-in-law, Levi Hall and his wife, Angela of Panama City, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Don Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

STEPHEN A MINKEY
Stephen A. "Steve" Minkey, age 52 of Panama City, passed away Aug. 31, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. He was a native of Baltimore, Md., and had lived in Panama City for six years, moving here from Salisbury, Md. He was the public works director at the City of Parker and was a member of the Florida League of Cities and the Public Works Association. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the BPOE Lodge No. 1598. He was a former officer in the Salisbury, Md., BPOE lodge. He was an avid sports enthusiast and supporter of athletics in the area and was very active in community affairs. Steve was loved by everyone who met him, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He put his heart and soul into everything he did; he wanted to make a difference. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Minkey of Panama City, Fla.; daughter, Stacey A. Minkey of Panama City, Fla.; brother, William Minkey, Jr. of Baltimore, Md., and several neices and nephews. Mr. Minkey was preceded in death by his son, Danny Minkey; parents; and brother, Andrew Minkey. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Father Pete Zalewski officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001 with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Contributions can be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society of St. Dominic Catholic Church.

VIRGINIA NELSON
Mrs. Virginia B. Nelson, age 65, of Youngstown, passed away Aug. 30, 2001, at her residence. She was a native of Graham County, N.C., and had lived in Bay County for 30 years. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Youngstown Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Virgle Nelson of Youngstown; one son, Rick Nelson of Tallahassee; one daughter, Linda Nelson and her husband, Michael of Panama City; two sisters, Pauline Holder of Gastonia, N.C., and Stella Hardin of Waynesville, N.C.; one brother, Floyd Hyde of Brooksville, Fla.; and one grandson, Brandon Nelson of Panama City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Love Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

ANTHONY RAY TURNER
Tony Turner passed away Aug. 20, 2001. He was born on Oct. 11, 1965, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Joyce Bennett Turner and the late Johnnie Turner. He was a chief telecommunications specialist in the United States Coast Guard. Tony is survived by his wife, Ronda L. Turner. Along with his wife and mother, other survivors include two daughters, Sara and Casey; one sister, Sharon Turner; one grandaughter, Rachael Austin and one niece, Faith 0. Quinn. Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 24, in Hope Mills, N.C., with burial following at La Fayette Memorial Park with full military honors. Friends are invited to join each other, with Ronda and Casey in rememberance of Tony at sunset, Sunday, Sept. 2, behind Sandpiper Beacon Motel (Tiki Bar) on Front Beach Road. A memorial ride will be planned and announced at a later date.

JOHN THOMAS 'SHORTY' BARNES
Mr. John Thomas "Shorty" Barnes, 81, of 1534 East Ave., Panama City, Fla., passed away on Friday evening, August 31, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Panama City and was a retired digest worker employed by International Paper Company for 23 yrs. Mr. Barnes was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Panama City and was a deacon at the church. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the USMC, was a commissioner in Cedar Grove for seven years and mayor for four years. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cora E. Barnes of Panama City, Fla.; two sons, Dwan Barnes of Cedar Grove, Fla., and Jerry T. Killebrew and wife Janis of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Nyoka B. Corlette and husband Charles G. of Lynn Haven, Fla.; one brother, Claude Barnes of Lynn Haven, Fla.; one sister, Marie Holley of Cottondale, Fla.; six grandchildren, John Corlette, Rodney Barnes, Ty Killebrew, Justin Killbrew, Jeremy Killebrew and Hannah Killebrew; two great-great-grandchildren, Cameron T. Barnes and Brandon Corlette. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 5, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church of Panama City with the Rev. Phil Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Class from the church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

GEORGE A. BARNETT
Angels escorted George A. Barnett, 58, of Panama City, Fla., into the presence of his savior on August 29, 2001. Mr. Barnett proudly served his country as a United States Marine, serving two tours in Vietnam. He retired as major after 21 years of service. He returned to Panama City in 1998 and prior to his illness was store manager of Select Comfort at Panama City Mall. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Callaway. He is survived by his wife, Jolene Barnett (Judy); two daughters, Robin Davidson and husband Ben, Amanda Schneider and husband Brad all of Niceville, Fla.; his parents, Walter C. and Jewel Barnett of Panama City, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2001, at 3 p.m. in the Callaway Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Beach officiating.

DAVID L. BEALE
Mr. David L. Beale, 64, of 1209 Savannah Dr., Panama City, Fla., passed away Friday, August 31, 2001, in a local nursing home. Born in Savannah, Ga., he moved here in 1992 from Anchorage, Alaska. He served his country in the USAF for 20 years and retired as tech sergeant. Mr. Beale worked for 18 years with Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. in Alaska as a pipeline technician. He was a member of the Unity Church and was an avid reader, painter and poet. He collected and sold first edition books, loved music, was a bird watcher and gardener. Mr. Beale loved people and never met a stranger. He was also a member of the first crew of the ICBM missile system. Mr. Beale is survived by his wife of 43 yrs. Marie Beale of Panama City, Fla.; one son, Charles Beale and wife Dana of Seattle, Wa.; two daughters, Cindie Beale and partner, Nancy Winford of Fairbanks, Alaska, Brenda Hansen and husband Jeff of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Alden Beale of Sweetwater, Tenn.; one sister, Margaret "Maggie" Beard of Statesboro, Ga.; two grandchildren, Ryan and Sean Hansen. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 5, 2001, at 3 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Emerald Coast Hospice in memory of Mr. Beale.

WILLIE LEROY CANNON
Mr. W. L. "Coonie" Cannon, age 77, the "Honorary Mayor of Red Bay", went to be with the Lord September 1, 2001, at the home of his daughter in Panama City. He was a native of Knox Hill, Fla., and had lived in Red Bay for the last 20 years. He was a former resident of Panama City, and was a retired maintenance worker at Arizona Chemical. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Goodrich during WWII. Mr. Cannon was a member of the Red Bay Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge No. 157, Ponce de Leon, and the Scottish Rite. He loved the outdoors, and especially loved bream fishing and telling stories. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen Cannon of Red Bay; three daughters, Phyliss Mortz and husband Jack of Panama City; Donna Cannon of Panama City and Shirli Nalley and husband Howard of Valrico, Fla.; one brother, Emmett Cannon of Howard Creek; three sisters, Pauline Cannon of Panama City, Jimmie Cannon of Red Bay, and Sue Price and husband Glenn of Panama City; eight grandchildren, John Daniels Jr., Melissa Talton, Heather Retherford, Kelly Keefe, Michelle Mortz, Lanae Motz, Brian Lloyd and Kevin Lloyd; six great-grandchildren, Forrest Daniels, Jaime Retherford, Kyle Retherford, Brandon Keefe, Ryan Keefe and Cody Peaden. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2001, at the Red Bay Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike McVay officiating. Interment will follow at Red Bay Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Mike Rushing, Mike Wells, Randy Cassidy, Jimmy McCullers, Sonny Guiffre, and Allen White. Honorary pallbearers will be the Red Bay Community and members of the Masonic Lodge No. 157. In lieu of flowers , contributions in his name may be made to the Hospice of the Emerald Coast, P.O. Box 1520, Lynn Haven, FL 32444. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, September 3, 2001.

JOE W. DONALSON JR.
Joe W. Donalson Jr., 61, of Panama City Beach died Friday August 31, 2001, at his home in Panama City Beach after a long illness with cancer. He graduated from Bay High in 1958, served in the USMC, and lived in Atlanta, Ga., for 23 years. In Atlanta, he was a used car dealer. Mr. Donalson returned to Panama City in 1985. He was owner of Florida Linen Outlet and previous owner of Coastal Car Company. He attended Emmaus United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Linda Donalson; a daughter, Lynn Retherford and her husband, Kris of Panama City Beach; a son, Alan Donalson and his wife, Vladka of Panama City Beach; three grandchildren, Hannah and Heidi Retherford and Thomas Donalson; one sister, Debra Puckett of Titusville, Florida; and the extended family of his wife. The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Sweetser and his staff and The Hospice of Northwest Florida for their medical care and support. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 3, 2001, at 9 a.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Hankins officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
